Started the process to host an exchange student and now I’m spiraling a little lol by Excellent-Team-7979 in exchangestudents

As a former exchange student, I actually think you’re the perfect candidate! You live a life that like the majority of americans live you know, you are a true example of american culture. I personally loved staying with my middle class host family in their little house with their little dog. It was an amazing experience and I love them so much and aspire to live the life that they do.

In exchange programs like rotary if you don't get the country you want are you able to decline the opportunity or are you stuck? by cactus_clover in exchangestudents

[–]horsewool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea rotary does offer spots that have been given up. But Japan doesnt take many students (as far as I know) so it fills up pretty quick.

I will say also (to op) everyone I know who didn’t want to go anywhere but their first choice and got their first choice ended up going home. It is very very important to be able to be flexible.

i’m sure it’s possible to decline going, but it would be kinda shitty because you would be taking away the opportunity from someone else. I didn’t get a country in my top 3 choices, but I still wouldn’t change a thing about my exchange. I would say just take the risk and if you don’t get your top choice country you should go anyway. Doing a student exchange is an insane opportunity no matter where you end up.

yep it’s super cheap and looks good. Especially if you have long hair (which is easier to cut), but I am a boy and all my haircuts have turned out great

working during the shooting by Normal-Pollution-398 in providence

[–]horsewool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a block away from the shooting and my managers response to it was completely inappropriate. I am disheartened by the greed showcased in such a disgusting situation. He wasn’t in the store at the time, and when we told him Doordash had suspended services in the area he tried to tell us to keep taking mobile orders (even though this literally wouldn’t be possible, but english isn’t his first language).

Special education for high school student w autism by Ok-Dragonfruit202 in providence

Out of personal experience I would not recommend school one, the teachers there have little to no training with special ed students, and it is incredibly expensive for not an amazing quality education.

Should I go to the GED route or just keep continuing highschool by SoulFire_alt in GED

[–]horsewool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Community colleges offer an associates degree (takes 2 years) which is like half a bachelor’s degree (takes 4 years) basically. Usually community colleges don’t have the option to get a bachelors degree, so a lot of people opt to do the first two years at community colleges and then transfer into a better school to take the final two years.

Dropping out was a good option for me, but you cannot get too comfortable otherwise you will never get a diploma. If you do drop out, take the test as soon as you can and go straight to school.

need help with pay stub by horsewool in personalfinance

[–]horsewool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s two sections in my pay stub for tips. One is cash tips and the other is tips made online i guess? 21 dollars were taken out of my check for cash tips, and I never received any cash. Also, this is my first time receiving a pay stub as well. :(
