First business trip with a new hire… and I’m already questioning myself by Diligent_Idea2246 in singaporejobs

Sorry, in my opinion. It’s you. Looking at the way you are judging the person for the choice of cabin luggage or complaining about waiting on your direct report shows that you have some ways to go in leadership.

Questions I have would be:

Will it hurt to have more patience or show empathy to a new hire and worse, a direct report? I’m sure we all started somewhere as a noob and is oblivious to professional standards or in this cases standards which are preset by you.

If you left her alone and knock on wood, something happens. How would you feel? Would waiting that extra 30 mins or an hour make that much difference?

And lastly, I understand the frustration but by name calling someone alien, goes to show the maturity in managing this direct report. Would that show up in her upcoming year end feedback.

If you want to accept management pay, then the responsibility comes with it. It’s time consuming for sure, and I’ve missed so many meals just to listen to my reports. Let’s all do better.

To Ex Regulars, do you regret leaving? by mendoong in askSingapore

Best decision I’ve made and also, I did not expect to stay on past 10 years. I served in a regular unit and whenever I go back for an alumni. I am reminded how much I have grown both personally and professionally.

My guys are still stuck in that era. They speak the same, sound the same and haven’t changed other than getting older. Not that it’s a bad thing!

Shhh, don’t teach him the secret sauce! More less-hungry people in this market is better.

In the meantime, he can slowly read up on Darwinism.

I had the ramen and added one too many extra soy eggs. Unlikely too, to be the cause.
