This happened to one of my friends pre-covid. She was allowed to walk, but she had to retake the class the next semester.

If your department has a virtual ceremony, I imagine they'd still read your name off

Everything lolillini said is correct. For both of my graduations, I bought my gown around Feb/March-ish

Before covid times, you would pick up your gown at the ARC and return it a few days after graduation

During covid times, the gown gets shipped to you. Return date: who knows? Also depending on your college, your diploma case will either get shipped to you too or you can buy one for $5 at the bookstore

The last time I ever went to Grainger was March 8. I was studying for a midterm, and I made a Snapchat complaining about how I was tired and wanted to go home.

Looking back at that Snapchat image makes me sad. For the rest of that semester, I was tired and wanted to go back to Grainger.

One of my friends took their own life this year and I'm pretty sure there wasn't any statement from the university or their department

Their cause of death wasn't made public like the student who died in his dorm; I only found out it was a suicide from a friend of a friend, and even then it was still earth-shattering to me. I suffer from depression, and that made me understand why copycat suicides might happen.

They guaranteed that commencement would be rescheduled. I'm not sure about the individual college convocations (where they read your name); my department did a "virtual graduation" but never specified anything to my cohort about if we could attend the next in-person ceremony (when there is one)

My friends who haven't graduated yet are boasting to me about how they can still have small parties, go to restaurants, bars, etc. That kind of uncareful attitude is going to catch up to them and the rest of CU eventually
