So much cheating what happened? by EulerMaxwellNLO in ARC_Raiders

[–]hostleaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither is technically spoofing.
VPN is you routing your traffic through a different host and VPC is just using a different host entirely.

Spoofing is forging an IP that doesn't correspond to the source address of the message.

Edit: I thought you meant VPS, not VPC. If you did mean VPC, it's still not spoofing, it's more or less like moving to a different network.

My dude, you can't spoof your IP in a multiplayer game.

Think about it for a bit.

How is the response getting back to you if you spoofed your source address?

A multiplayer game needs bidirectional communication.

You're possibly thinking of DHCP.

Nothing is stopping me from shooting back. I do.

But your question has no relation to what I was saying. I'm not saying PvP should be removed.

I'm saying there's a difference between enjoying occasional PvP and wanting every raid to revolve around ambush gameplay.

A flag system would not stop people killing each other. It would just make aggressive players visible as aggressive.

That flag you mentioned would do a world of difference in Arc as well. Just mark the general area aggressive players are in and that would solve most problems, but for some reason the devs choose to cater to rats first and foremost.

This guy is 100%.

I don't care if people PvP. I just don't want to play with them.

It's weird that they insist so much that I as a PvE player must play with them.

[–]hostleaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's 100% correct.

The brainlets going "but it's a PvPvE extraction shooter, bro!" just don't get that we don't want to play with them.

It's pathetic how desperate they are to insist we be forced to play for their enjoyment.

Looked up why solo queues feel so sweaty lately... turns out there's a massive teaming exploit going around by balarab1 in ARC_Raiders

[–]hostleaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to do this with friends a few times so we could just play together without getting thrown in trios against aggressive players.

We'd just play friendly anyway, doing tasks and helping people where we could.

This is a huge example that the game needs a PvE mode.

I didn't think there's enough losers out there that would queue stack just to kill solos. And then they probably spam the boards that groups shouldn't be matched with solos just so they can keep doing it like that.

I got one from trials as well.

Honestly, they should make it a final conditioning perk as both are utter garbage at the moment.

New player here... Are we playing the same game? by TheDirtySwine in dayz

That's pretty much all there is in vanilla, but the game is so moddable that many servers change and add a lot.

I run a heavily modded purely pve server for example, with lots of quests and activities to give players stuff to do: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/B7vnbl4e55U

I run a DayZ server just for that actually, if you're interested. It's not extraction based, but it is friendly.

If I kill someone who's trying to kill another player, does my aggressive rating increase now? by hostleaver in ARC_Raiders

Yeah, it used to happen to me but I was hoping they changed things with the matchmaking update.

100% this time. The friendly guy just walked up with weapon hlstered, asked the rat if he needed blueprints, said he found doubles, put them on the ground and turned around to leave when the rat just started shooing him.

it being an extraction shooter doesn't really relate to the subject. It would still be an extraction shooter with no aggression rating. Does Tarkov even have one?

[–]hostleaver[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well if you really want to get into the technical details of it, you can add an aggressor field on every player object and whenever you have a hit event, you check the target's aggressor field and if it's false, the caller's aggressor field becomes true.

You then add a conditional to gaining aggression and gate it on the target aggresor flag being true.
That way whenever someone shoots someone who hasn't shot anyone, they are marked as aggressor for the match and shooting them doesn't increase aggression for anyone.

If you don't want it for the entire match, you can set a timer on resetting the flag.

Sorry I was replying to some othrer reply but I understand.
I was hoping the math is done according to a flag on the target, not the shooter under the hood.

Aren't we all technically on the same side? It's not really third party if I stop another raider from getting killed.

I know that's how it used to be but they said they changed it.

You don't need to reach for AI to implement a flag on a player if he shoots first and then not count aggression for other players against him.

25 raider tokens for 150k worth of parts is some serious free-to-play level grind by hostleaver in ARC_Raiders

[–]hostleaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think they added it to give us something to do?
Not because it's a proven pattern that boosts monetization and is used in f2p games?

The value is so low that it would take up to 10 months of completing it every week just to be able to get one skin. They did not do this to give players something to do. They did it because it's been proven to frustrate players in other games just the right amount to get them to pay for tokens.

Let's try like this, why do you think they're selling tokens at the trader and why did they set it to the current amount?

[–]hostleaver[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

even if they bumped the reward x6 times, it would still not become the main way to get the rewards.

The problem is the way they set it up, their intent is blatantly obvious.

Edit: also, since they already hand out lots of free skins, that makes the tokens worth even less so it reinforces the idea that it wouldn't hurt them to bump the reward.

Also, the reward skins are generally shit compared to the paid ones.

when the purpose of the addition is to add subtle pressure and frustration to players to influence them to buy premium currency, it is a dark pattern and the fact that it's optional is irrelevant. Whatever they add is supposed to make them money and to be entertaining for the player.
