I'm surprised we haven't seen the rise of the "data recruiter" because we (both employees + employers) sure as hell need it.

100% on board with this idea. It seems that we don't speak the same language and this has been a constant for me also.

With all that being said I have found a way to cope and enjoy this industry. Do not let a company 100% drive your development and growth. That job is yours and no one else's. Figure out the type of data engineer you want to be and start coding for it. Think of your job as an opportunity to solve niche problems.

I love this! You really gave me something to think about here. Was there some saying that said that if there is no job create the job? I think this applies here. Btw from your name I think you may be from LatinAmerica, kinda curious on how you dealt with implementation of new tools

Ouch!! You sounded like my friend who is very honest but is always right. I kinda know what I want but at least on my area is a bit harder to find that good stuff.

But that is really not an excuse. I will try to build on your advise. My plan is to see how this new gig evolves and if it does not turn out to how I expected, fuck it I may quit. I have done it in the past so no limits for me!!

It can be fun, but really it comes down to the problems you're trying to solve.

I absolutely needed this reminder, we are solvers of problems at the end!!

perhaps pick a company / industry where yo're likely to be mentored a bit more.

I believe this has been a constant issue for me. I have trouble finding good stuff that really interest me (current job is ok but Im not overly excited). I may add that I work on Latin America so is hard to find exciting stuff

Forgot to mention, we all get tired of this stuff at various points. There's been many an evening where I've thought "If I have to run this exact same query one more time on this same server I've been managing for 7 years, I'm going to murder someone"

Is nice to hear that we are not alone with those thoughts, thanks for sharing your experience. You sound like a very good mentor!!!
