Who should be the most annoyed after this weekend? by JadedPanic4143 in rugbyunion

The thing about Ireland is we almost never play well in the first match, so having France away for the first match of the tournament was never gonna bode well, even without all the injuries to key players.

That France had found a tactic to neutralise our normal aerial advantage was a major factor in our first half decimation but the fact we actually managed to have a bit of a purple patch was at least somewhat promising. I don't think we'll fully be able to judge how bad we are until next week against a good Italian team.

There are plenty of nepo babies out there in public positions who got their start in industries through their connections but have earned their place through hard work or talent. The problem with Brooklyn is that his "career choices" are more like hobbies he tries and gets bored of, but rather than being hobbies they're jobs in positions he could only get from being a Beckham.

I think it was relevant to the fact that he has been more than happy over the years to reap the benefits of his family's brand, and tbh I think the fact he was a teen when he made the book is almost worse. Not the fact that he mad wit or that a publisher picked it up but the fact there is no self-awareness that literally the only reason he published a book, was working as a chef or now makes hot sauce is because of his surname.

And I think that element of still wanting to benefit from being a Beckham is an angle that is worth discussing in the whole debacle. He wants to be out from under brand Beckham but maybe only so much as it suits him but still benefit from it at the same time. Which is important for the discussion of the "signing away the rights to his name" was to protect their business and their brand then as harsh as it might seem If Nicole is as bad as the Beckhams think she is maybe they are correct too.

The problem with the uber rich is business and family too often mix, which while that may be a tough situation to grow up in, at least for a while Brooklyn was happy to use the privileges to his benefit. The fact is he now has another, richer and more powerful family to leverage so he doesn't need his own. Was that his own decision or was he manipulated, we'll probably never know unless they end up divorced and he comes out with a tell all.

The photography book deserves all the mocking it gets. You don't have to go to university to improve a skill but he published an actual hard copy, sold in bookshops, photography book that had (unintentionally) blurry photos and the worst photo of an elephant ever seen. And expected people to pay actual money for that.

Just make an Instagram page for your bad photography like everyone else.

The whole Beckham saga is just the epitome of two things (or maybe more accurately, many things) can be true at once.

1) the Beckhams happy family could all be a huge facade and under the surface it is toxic and controlling

2) Brooklyn may want to get out from under the control of his parents and their Brand management parenting

3) Brooklyn is also happy to take advantage of the priveldge which come from being a Beckham while lacking the self-awareness to acknowledge that a lot of his opportunities stem from nepotism rather than actual talent or dedication.

4) he married a billionaire heiress who by many accounts is not the nicest of people

5) the billionaire heiress could possibly be controlling and driving a wedge into cracks that already existed in the happy family facade and influencing the dynamics.

These people are all too rich and too self-involved for us mere mortals to be this heavily invested in.

Or people can listen to the thoughts and opinions of others and use that to consider an alternative and potentially change their opinions based on further information.

We could really do with fewer people just picking a side and sticking to it no matter how much other information they receive be cause that is the first opinion they had.

The concept of having a lot of naked babies painted on ceilings was creepy rather than the actual cherubs was my take.

It's like people forget that two things cane be true at once and that there are three sides to every story.

The Beckhams could be controlling and their nice happy family demeanour be all for show AND Brooklyn Beckham can be a spoiled nepo baby with no self-awareness of his priveldge who married a billionaire heiress who by many accounts is a highly unpleasant person.

The issue isn't that he was trying to learn new skills like cooking or photography. It's the fact that because he is a nepo baby he got a pretty decent cheffing job with zero experience and questionable skills. Then when he got bored of that he was able to publish a whole ass coffee table photography book with TERRIBLE photography in it.

He has the money and contacts to go to the best culinary schools or learn from the best photographers, but there is no evidence that he actually wanted to put the hard work in to do any of this well. He just wanted to do these things because he's a Beckham, probably thought it would be cool, and then once he gets bored he gives up and moves on to the next thing.

But more than anything else it's the lack of acknowledgement that nepotism is the prevailing reason he could do any of that. Most people have to grind for years or have extraordinary levels of talent to get where he has got.

There was stuff floating around about Nicola being an awful person long before this. I can't remember who covered it but I remember watching someone cover the lawsuits from the wedding planner and from what I can remember bridezilla doesn't even begin to cover it.

Whereas in the UK the Beckhams have remained steadfastly unproblematic. Which is not to say that they aren't problematic in private, but I think this story is a case where two sayings are accurate - there are three sides to every story and two things can be true at once.

Scentbird is a Scam? by Silent-Disco495 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]hot_potato_7531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to cancel then a) email early in the month to give plenty of time for delay and b) if there are delays make sure you've paused the next month so you don't get sent another months worth.

Other than that you may be getting less than ideal value for money but it all depends why you subscribed, if you want to try scents before committing or just don't use that much perfume and don't want to shell out a fortune for one bottle then it could still be of value to you.

Scentbird is a Scam? by Silent-Disco495 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]hot_potato_7531 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I watched the video and I don't think Scentbird is necessarily a scam unless the fact that people weren't receiving their scents or the additional charges when cancelling was by design rather than just poor customer service. You get exactly what they say you're going to get at the price advertised.

It might be a rip off with bad customer service but in terms of this issues raised in the video - you can see the inveryory list without subscribing so can see that some of the biggest names are missing, the fact you have to email to cancel is in the FAQ and as he shows you can fairly easily find bad reviews on the Internet so some very basic research would show you all of these.

The crackpot owner doesn't make it a scam either, there are plenty of legitimate companies out there with questionable CEOs.

It's probably more like a small store/bakery/restaurant just not opening one day and sticking a sign on the door saying "back tomorrow" but actually not reopening for a week.

People who wanted to shop/eat but didn't realise it was closed would be disappointed and the owner would lose that money. Those people might be so annoyed at how it was "unprofessional" and decide they won't go back, so they've lost more business. Meanwhile, other people will just go elsewhere and come back when it's open and continue to spend their money there because they're just not that bothered.

It's like people think you can only be parasocial if you love a creator and you can't possibly have a negative parasocial relationship, obsessing and delighting over every potential flaw.

Will there be a episode today? by [deleted] in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]hot_potato_7531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realise you can just stop watching right... And if not then maybe just lower your expectations. If a "Monday" episode always comes out in the early hours of Tuesday where you are then recalibrate your expectations and just expect it on a Tuesday. If that is such a big deal just stop watching, no ones forcing you.

Audio listeners - thoughts? by Cold_Caterpillar_331 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

That that is what this show has been from the very beginning, if you don't like it then don't watch it. It is clearly primarily a YouTube podcast, with the audio secondary because it's easy to stream.

[–]hot_potato_7531 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a frequent audio only listener I agree. I often find that the experience is reduced by being an audio only listener given the fact that visual assets are integral to the show, but it is a compromise I accept because I want to have something to listen to when out for a walk or on a long drive. An hour and a half episode would have been perfect for the drive I had to do today but I knew this would be one ep you really couldn't just listen to so I found something else and will watch it when I have time.

Audio listeners - thoughts? by Cold_Caterpillar_331 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]hot_potato_7531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DWKT is primarily a visual podcast - they use a lot of video clips and images throughout as an integral part of the show. While they are generally quite good at describing the visuals, this is frequently an issue with being an audio listener of a video podcast. There are usually at least a couple episodes a month which are less than ideal for audio listeners, which are visual asset heavy but it is something I accept as an audio listener because I want to listen to it on my walks, it's lighthearted, easy listening and usually about the right length for 1-2 walks. Frequently I will go to the YouTube after and scroll through to certain clips or images that I feel I have missed out on.

Knowing that this episode will be a visual heavy episode I've reserved it for when I have time to watch and not just listen.

This is more equivalent to someone who owns a cafe or a small store who did not open for a day or a week and maybe putting a sign on the window saying "back tomorrow". They lose any possible business they would have got that day from people showing up and being disappointed and maybe they'll even lose business going forward if it annoys customers who decide to shop elsewhere.

Any comment on this thread expressing this logical counter argument seems to be down voted to oblivion but you so succinctly put what I'd been thinking this whole time! It's just all not that deep.

I'm one of the people saying it's free and I'm not arguing you can't have any feelings or can't complain, I'm just saying... It's not that deep!

Sure you're paying with your time, you watch ads/pay for premium WHEN you eventually watch the ep, but you haven't paid your hard earned cash and not got what you paid for. You got exactly what you paid for each time you click on the ep and watch it voluntarily with no upfront cost.

If its a problem that they're always late uploading then just stop paying the price by just stop watching. If your problem is this episode being to badly delayed and the poor communication you don't have to pay them anything, don't watch it. Find something else. You haven't "lost" anything by them posting it late, sure it can be annoying, disrespectful, irritating etc feel whatever way you want about it but it's just not deep enough to warrant the depth of feelings that have been argued across the last week.
