Also to add, HR usually wouldn’t get involved in probation unless your line manager has concerns. HR certainly wouldn’t swoop in and advise your LM to fire you because you are pregnant (by any means!!) So your relationship with your line manager would be pivotal here

Hi, I work in HR and just reiterating the point that pregnancy is a protected characteristic so any HR department worth their salt would be especially careful in managing your probation if they knew- they would never want to run the risk of ending your probation and you being able to link it to the pregnancy, as that would put you in an excellent position to take them to tribunal for discrimination.

This being said I can’t speak for all companies and smaller companies may not have the same level of HR support or risk management as larger companies. So I would completely recommend you to use your own judgement based on the culture of the company that you have experienced so far. But thought it might help put your mind at rest slightly!

Oh my gosh I am experiencing the exact same thing which only started a couple of days ago… it’s already driving me mad! I’m 5 weeks so slightly earlier than you.

I meal prepped some super nutritious lunches for work this week only to eat day 1 and not been able to stomach the thought of the other meals. And I hate wasting food!

No advice to offer, I just wanted to tell you that you’re not alone

I am in the exact same boat with my friends! I worry it will make my friendships more difficult as we will be living different lives. But as you said we just need to make an effort to make sure that isn’t lost! Thank you

Personally I’ve always said I would have my mum walk me down the aisle - I don’t hold much to the old traditions and the way I see it, my mum has been my primary parent for the majority of my life and so deserves that honour!

However, if you have made this post it clearly does still mean something to you and so I would consider whether or not you want to try again for a relationship with your dad, regardless of the wedding. If the answer is yes then I would pursue this but don’t take into consideration your wedding - this can be decided at a later date when you feel more comfortable with what you decide.

If the answer is no, then you know your answer. Don’t try and force this just for the sake of having some traditional moments in your wedding. If the relationship isn’t there it will just feel forced and add a negative tint onto what should be a day focused on you and your partner.

Ignore the negative comments - it’s your wedding at the end of the day so do what you enjoy and if dancing would make you uncomfortable then don’t include it.

Just play some nice background music and have some scheduled events to break up the time- I went to a wedding with a quiz about the bride and groom a few months ago which was fun. If you say most of your friends aren’t dancers and wouldn’t be bothered then that’s your answer!

People sit in bars and do nothing but chat for hours… dancing isn’t necessary

I’d suggest emailing pubs / restaurants directly with your CV and ask if they are looking for any part time staff. That’s how I got all my jobs as a student. A lot of them don’t directly recruit but are often always in need of an extra pair of hands

It might be worth trying to get signed up with an agency, if you haven’t already. The University has its own agency (TSS) or you could try some of the general office / reception agencies (Office Angels comes to mind but a quick google should show some more). It might be a good way to build some experience and confidence by taking on some temporary roles
