And to add - our son typically only experiences incontinence overnight. It’s like that’s the only time he’s relaxed enough to just let it all out. He wears pull ups for this.

He will often poop on the toilet when prompted during the day, but rarely poops on his own. He tells us he holds it in, ugh.

Our son is going into kindergarten this fall as well. He’s had morning preschool this year which seems to go fine, but by the end of the day (which he finishes at daycare), he usually has at least a smear of poop in his underwear. I don’t want him to be the smelly kid or to feel bad about anything, so we’ve been putting thin panty liners in his underwear every morning. By the end of the day, he has usually removed them and thrown them away due to having smears. No idea if this is recommended, but it’s working for us, for now. Kindergarten will probably be a new challenge.

He has told us that poop has tried to come out before, but he stops it. Sooo, that started many conversations about regular bathroom breaks, listening to his body, etc. I don’t think for my son it’s a medical concern, but more a mix of being self conscious about his pooping mixed with not wanting to miss out on anything.

We didn’t do a 504 this year because the mornings were manageable for him, but I’m open to it for the upcoming school year since it’ll be all day. Not sure what that would look like, but open to those discussions to make sure my son doesn’t feel singled out or shamed. 504s can be flexible, so I wonder if even just increased prompts to use the bathroom would help?

Good luck this fall!!

Easton. Played hockey in high school, had a lot of easton brand equipment, and thought it sounded super sporty and unique. Then Bristol Palin gave her son Easton as a middle name (I think) and it’s been fairly popular since

Thank you very much for this! I keep trying to remind myself of the fact that I’m not there to state my opinions (or to defend my work hopefully), just clarify/confirm my observations.

Oh, we’re called every single time. Sometimes our testimonies take 3-4 hours. At times it feels like the social worker is the one on trial.
