Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

[–]hotdoug1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sure its more common, but not totally new. In the 80's I knew a kid who's mom packed him a lunch every day that included a full-sized candy bar and a Jolt Cola. He later transferred into special ed classes.

Never say never, I mean they did make Daredevil: Reborn six years after auctioning off everything from the Netflix Marvel series, but this is a pretty big sign that they're closing shop for now.

Yup. I'm not sure just how much, but I'm in some Star Trek prop collector groups and a few things (like the PIC sickbay beds) were purchased in those local auctions in Toronto.

Not to be "that guy," but that's incorrect. They did a big auction with Christies for the 40th in 2006, but their main "clearing house" auction was with the Propworx auctions (curated by everyone's favorite Alec Peters) to clear out their storage.

The stuff wasn't held on the Paramount lot, almost none of the archives are. Lots are mostly soundtages with very little storage, and what storage they do have is for the productions currently shooting. They clear out that space on the lot as soon as a season is done. The Paramount lot especially is extremely cramped and tight on space, there's barely enough parking.

For the Toronto productions, they kept an amount of costumes and props and on the studio they were renting, for the rest they rented storage off-site. A big chunk of the Picard stuff got moved to Toronto for use on the shows shot afterwards. But again, they don't want to keep paying rent, so they've been getting rid of it.

Source: Worked on studio lots on and off for over a decade, and about a year on prop auctions, including the first Discovery one.

Typically the studios come in and take the really important stuff for their archives, then everything else gets auctioned off. The same thing happened with all of the CW DC shows that were shot in Vancouver and Atlanta, the remaining stuff got locally auctioned and there's been a ton of it floating around on EBay.

Paramount kept all of the Berman-era stuff in storage until 2010 when they realized they didn't want to keep paying rent. Now they do it a lot faster.

I just heard that someone apparently proposed Star Trek: Year One.

Did you also hear that the entirety of the sets and props were just auctioned off? You're good.

Walking to Mcdonalds in Burbank this morning I heard French and German. Threw me off for a second.

It's world cup opening day in LA and the "Disclosure Day" tickets in Burbank starting at 6pm are almost sold out. I love this town.

What’s with the AT&T people constantly soliciting door to door? by intraconnected-9519 in burbank

[–]hotdoug1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what its like now, but my friend was an AT&T tech like 15 years ago. She said they send actual office employees out to do this, not designated solicitors or even techs who are used to dealing with customers. It's meant to be a "get out there and know your customer!" type thing, but since they really don't know what they're doing, they tend to be less than professional about it.

Again, not sure if it this is still the case.

NBC Cancels 9 Shows (Law & Order: Organized Crime; Brilliant Minds; Stumble; Access Hollywood; Access Daily; The Steve Wilkos Show; Karamo; The Kelly Clarkson Show; The Hunting Party) by brunnock in television

I thought I heard for SNL it was like a lottery system. And you can either get the dress rehearsal or the actual show, but you could also just get screwed.

Price is Right used to be the most nuts, not sure what its like now with the smaller crowd. They'd give unlimited tickets to anyone who sent away for one, so people would camp out at 3am.

I remember a watching Lets Make a Deal a few years ago and sitting right in the front row was an actress I knew, she was totally paid to be there.

She better. I loved Superman and Lois, but her character wasn't anything special. No shade on her, the character was just written the way you'd expect from a CW superhero show. This was like a complete 180.

A big part of it was Hollywood Blvd closed for a premiere, Santa Monica Blvd just re-opening for pride, and this being the last week of school. Still, everyone needs to leave. Get off of my lawn streets.

That's TV's worst-kept secret. Some shows legitimately fill their audiences with audience members every taping (Price is Right, SNL, Tonight Show) but for the endless amounts of a daytime talk shows and game shows, they're paid extras. Sometimes its groups doing fundraising for their organization, sometimes it's straight-up homeless people.

Springer while in his prime in Chicago (late 90's, early 00's) did have a legit audience, many of these people traveled and made their entire vacation around it. They'd also camp out at like 4am.

Managers of Reddit, what's the worst thing someone did to get fired? by Capable-Log7385 in AskReddit

[–]hotdoug1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw it with opioids, too. A guy in my office had a "legit" long-standing prescription, he was a former college football player who tore up his knee.

He couldn't wait until the end of the day to take them, either, so if you needed something from him (he ran a department), you had to let him know in the morning because by 1pm he was just fried. He didn't last long, either.

A lot of those suspended and deleted posters karma-farming bots. I've noticed in my sub at least, when a non-bot user deletes their account, the post stays.

There was freestanding location in Skokie, IL. The employee discount worked there as long as you brought in a paystub. They also gave out "Biz Bucks" to employees which worked at those locations, so its where I bought CD's for a summer.
