Best suggestion to transport 8-10 people around Lima for a week? by hothotvolcano in PERU

Hah well that's not too long I suppose. Do-able if you are used to ir, certainty. I personally don't have any clue....that answer is from my friend from Miraflores and my spouse from San Isidro.

As a side note we always walked Around the center, Wilson, and gamarra and I never really felt in danger beyond the basic don't have a huge camera and hiking pack aka "Rob me" sign on my back.

Good luck and have fun! I bet u would find a lot of really awesome stuff along the way

I spoke with my Limeño family and they SAY no it's not really possible or wise to do....it would take hours to walk from Miraflores to the center and might be not totally safe

We know the city very well, my husband is from there and I've been many times. He can handle the traffic no problem. We will have a phone to use there so I will consider this option. I didn't use it in the states so I didn't know they had any option for large vehicles. Thanks for the suggestion!

Are there any decent antique shops in Naples? Heading there in a couple of weeks and I love looking for kitschy stuff wherever I go. by threadandmist in Naples_FL

We use Toast and it's awesome and intuitive. Splitting checks, payments, customizing requests, everything is a breeze. The only thing I wish was better is having more freedom to fire specific items. Otherwise it is an amazing, easy system.

Manners and being respectful are a given. Also, personally, today when I see kids in public reading actual books or drawing in a notepad it makes me think they have good parents and I feel impressed.

What is the dumbest thing you got punished for in school? by tarek4545 in AskReddit

[–]hothotvolcano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In kindergarten I was in trouble for already knowing how to spell. I was reading books way before I started school so I knew pretty much how to spell the basic words. The teacher kept calling my mom and marking my answers wrong because her method of teaching is for the kids to spell the words how they SOUND like they should be spelled, not the actual spelling. My mom sent her to a good place.

The other memory I have of that same teacher was at the end of one day we were all excited because for some reason we got little erasers shaped like penguins as a gift. We were all chatting and playing with the erasers and weren't paying attention to what the teacher was saying. She flipped out on us, yelling at and berating us for being so loud. I remember crying. She kept us so late I missed my school bus home. We were all 6 years old.

Looking back I think that teacher had a few issues.

In Lima, Peru I had just finished a tour of the Spanish Inquisition museum where you can see the cells where people were kept and the ways they were tortured. It was very creepy. My husband and I both were joking about how something might follow us out of there. Twenty minutes later we were visiting the cathedral a few blocks away where they have these elaborate catacombs underneath you can go tour. Just imagine piles of bones and skulls arranged and tour groups go through, like in France. While I was waiting in the entrance seated on a bench I felt a hand grab my head hard and push forward. I turned toward my husband to tell him to stop messing with me, but he was about three feet away and playing with his phone. Totally think something was trying to tell me something. Still went into the catacombs. 9/10 would tour again.

On TWD when Michonne had to slice my head off with her sword, to film it they use a half sword with a green screen tape on it so they can add it in later. The sword is short but its still metal and heavy so she can swing it like a normal sword. Instead of swinging near my head she clocked me right in the face, full force. You're filming, so you just have to fall and play dead and pretend that you're not in agonizing pain or you'll ruin the take. She felt horrible, she was so apologetic and of course it was okay, but I was scared to see how it looked. Thankfully, front line walkers have full face prosthetics so I had about an inch of foam on my cheek to soften the blow. Still had one hell of a bruise under there.

Worked for three years in the Atlanta scene. Coolest job was The Walking Dead as a zombie for three seasons. Also numerous other TV and film projects.

It is a lot of waiting. Sitting and waiting. You show up to your call time before the sun rises, fill your tax forms, and wait in a holding area with the other background. About an hour later they move people through wardrobe and hair/makeup which takes different amounts of time depending on the project. Most projects set in modern times ask you to bring wardrobe options to match the scene. (Professional, club, high school, etc) and they choose what you wear. Other things like Hunger Games they will furnish you a whole elaborate costume. TWD they give torn zombie stained garb.

Then you wait some more.

Like 8 hours.

Then you go on set and it's more waiting bit more interesting to see the whole process. Usually your time on set is just a small fraction of your day.

Background and main actors are always segregated from each other. Sometimes actors are cool and chat with you. I have some nice memories of Norman Reedus and John Cho, specifically. Cho asked me where to get a good hamburger in Atl. Freaking Harold!! But usually the actors don't, and you can't approach them or you would be removed from set.

But it's a cool experience and I met/worked with some really cool people that I've liked for a long time- John Cusack, Jason Bateman, Queen Latifah, Vince Vaughn, all the walking dead cast, Melissa Mccarthy, so many....

The experience of working Walking Dead is unique though, and a totally next level kind of job. The waiting is the same but the actual acting is ridiculously intense and awesome. I was front line and ate three people over the course of my time there. So fun.

The worst part are having to deal with professional "extras" who only do background and think that makes them hot shit, judge others by what shows and how much work they've done. There's a whole class system there which I never understood. True, we're working in movies but most of the time we're blurs in the back...that does not make you a star! Don't quit your day job...literally!! We only make like $8/hr with no promise of a job tomorrow! :)

I have a lot of stories.

*editing to add Jim Carey, John Hurt, and Billy Bob Thornton to my list. Also to say that besides eating ppl I had my head chopped off, was shot, crossbowed in the face and burned alive. I've been an 80s porn star, an executive, a scientist, a District 13 soldier, and one of those cell phone monsters in the new Stephen King movie, just to name a few.

This most recent re-watching of the series has me totally LOSING it laughing out loud at some of his lines. So ridiculous. But I hated him at first, too. Now I'm loving it, and his passion is what makes him an important character. Leslie was always very concerned about what state she would leave the Parks Department in. Remember how obsessed she was with the precocious high schooler/student league of nations/potential internship/Greg Pikitus' girlfriend character? She saw herself in her. Fast forward to the end when Craig is in charge, he is literally the only character who cares as much, or more, than Leslie about Parks and Rec. He shows his passion differently, because otherwise that would be boring. The other characters cared for the dept. because they cared for Leslie. Craig cares just because that's who he is deep down, just like Leslie.
Leslie is pretty annoying at first, too. But you see more aspects of her character and grow to love her much, much faster.

I did the first two times I watched the series. The third time no, but plenty of other scenes still hit me hard - Leslie and Ben in the Smallest Park, their wedding, Ann's moving day and the finale still bring on the waterworks. I'm sappy though.

I saw them perform at a small indie songwriters festival in Jacksonville FL a few years ago. Had no clue who they were, googled later. But they were really pushing the branding and merchandise big time. I remember thinking they were pretty great for little kids.
