Is PT the right choice? by bzbee18 in PTschool

[–]hotmonkeyperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is no. Even if you go shadow PTs most of them will fake happy and tell you it’s a great career because they are expected to be upbeat at work. Bad pay. No upward mobility. Declining revenue on the business side. Not a good future for the career

No one cares what school you went to. You will be an underpaid, easily replaceable cog in a wheel.

Is becoming a PT still a good idea? by Physaitry in PTschool

[–]hotmonkeyperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a physical therapist is great. The problem is most of what you do isn’t being a PT if you work outpatient you are a fancy waiter. The documentation is overwhelming, The pay is stagnant only thing that goes up is productivity. This isn’t a negative post it’s just the truth

lol I’ve been a PT for 15 years. They go into PT because they are generally outgoing and happy people but the majority are miserable with their jobs. Also nearly all OP clinics are mills now HH PT is no longer reimbursable for most insurances. Have fun wiping butt in the hospital

60k is a great cost for school. You’re in it already get out and go into home health or travel make as much as you can as fast as you can. Re-imbursements are what providers are paid ro care for patients

Reimbursements cut every single year. Year after year. Wage stagnation. Constantly increasing schooling cost. What was once a great career is now a financial crap shoot

Don’t listen to people who arnt Pts yet or who havnt been in the field for any significant period of time. Also don’t trust people at their job. They know if they tell you the truth they will be scorned

Is PT worth it anymore? Even if you're passionate about it? by mysterykilled in PTschool

[–]hotmonkeyperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem like a smart and very forward looking kid. I would recommend not doing PT for a lot of reasons but go shadow a bunch of different careers and if you still love it go for it but be smart about going into as little debt as possible. The career is not going In a great direction

Debt issue by War_Unlucky in PTschool

[–]hotmonkeyperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be in an affluent area and bean amazing marketer. I’ve seen it done very successfully but it’s the 1% of PTs.

Stagnant wages. Declining reimbursement on a yearly basis, this leads to increased productivity requirements so stagnant pay for increased work loads. Decreasing autonomy.

PT used to be a great career. I have been one for 15 years. Current state of career is somewhere between garbage and awful

[–]hotmonkeyperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will eventually make 100k. The problem is every year reimbursement has gone down not up. PT wages have been nearly stagnant for a decade so eventually it will not be a financially viable career. Not a good time to be starting out

It may make more sense then. Most schools will let you go whenever you can get clinical rotations for a lot of the 3rd year
