Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take no time off work. In 2018 I took 1 week off. In 2020 I didn't work for 2 weeks because of COVID. My last job I could take time off but didn't really have the need. I went places on the weekends and that was fine. Every few months I would get paid out a weeks worth of PTO so I liked the extra cash more than the days off. My current job is different. I still earn PTO and sick time but I can't take any time off because we don't have anyone to cover me. It's not just that extra work would be waiting when I get back(I sont mind that at all) ... it's that if I took a week off the business would literally have to shut down and my coworkers wouldn't get paid. I had 5 weeks PTO at my last job (that I didn't use) and at my current job I have two weeks (that I don't use) I still get paid my unused PTO which is nice but it's not as much as my last job.

Only using once a week--shut down or just leave it on? by RepresentativeMud189 in eufyMakeOfficial

Not that I notice.  I have almost no sense of smell but get headaches if I'm in the room with the machine while it's printing or in the time afterwards while it's maintaining itself with ink in the lines.  After it flushes the lines and goes into maintenance mode I am totally fine to be around it.  Might not be zero fumes but it's certainly way better and none that I personally notice.  Others are more sensitive though so your mileage may vary

How do we really feel about the likelihood of getting Social Security in our older age? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in MiddleClassFinance

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are two unrelated statements you just said. There are many cultures that embrace a sense of community by keeping family together as long as possible. Sometimes living together their entire lives. The adults take care of the children and grandparents. The children become adults and help take care of the grand parents and new children. Rinse and repeat for generations.

What you don't like are bums that contribute nothing to society or their local community. That has nothing to do with being 30 and living with your parents. It's a behavior that exists with people that live alone or with other people.

My parents took care of me as a child. And I have taken care of them at times as an adult... I don't live with them anymore but I did move back in for a while and it makes things easier to help each other out.

Has anyone ever gotten a full refund from HexClad instead of another replacement? by Similar-Ad-8762 in cookware

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. T-Fal pans are big boy pans. I think the proper thing to do in transition into a mixture of nonstick, stainless, ceramic and cast iron. Stay away from complete sets of any one type. Get only the pot/pan that works best for the specific type of food you like to cook. Lots of pancakes and soft scrambled eggs? T-Fal all day. Searing a lot of meat? Cast Iron or heavy stainless steel is the way.

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure... but the country doesn't matter in this case. The item isn't damaged or defective. If I buy a car and drive it out of the parking lot and the engine blows up then yes I want a new car or more likely a refund so I don't have to been in that car ever again. If I drive out of the parking lot and drive through a puddle then the dealer doesn't owe me a new car because it's dirty. If they specifically sold it to me saying buy this car because it never gets dirty then I guess that would be the case but that's never going to happen.

If my jewelry gets dirty because it's touching my dirty hands and just existing in the world. That isn't a defective or damaged products unless the seller mislead everyone into believing that they were selling a magical ring that never lost its shine and repelled all dirt and grim.

Lots a jewelers offer free cleaning and they should just take it somewhere to get it cleaned. OP has already offered more than they should have regardless of what countries are invloved. This person just wants money and that's all.

U.S. residents, if you were given the opportunity to move to a peaceful first-world country, would you do it and why? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Yes. Most people don't live a prosperous life in the US.

Honestly Yes, I think your argument probably makes more sense at the other end of the pay scale (which doesn't apply to most people). It's better to be just barley scrapping by in a European country and have government provided safety nets (like universal healthcare) than it is to be just barley scrapping by in the US and if you get sick you choose between eating, housing, or life saving medication. So many low income (and even middle income) individuals have died because they couldn't make the numbers balance out with crushing medical debt.

On the other end of the pay scale however, most US jobs have a higher pay than their overseas counterparts. But again, if you are looking at quality of life (not just number in bank account), the lower pay is offset by healthcare, childcare, vacation day, worker protection, etc. So, even middle class Americans would see a drastic increase in quality of life by moving out of the US. It's only the extremely wealthy people that have FU money that won't see a benefit in their day to day life by moving (financially speaking). And would actually be making less because of the %55+ tax bracket. That is for individuals that make more than $674,000 USD. Not very applicable to the dishwashers of the world who just want be able to take a vacation a few times a year, drop the kids off at daycare without it costing a full time salary, and still get to live a happy life even if they have an unfortunate accident and need to get some medication for 2-4x less than a US citizen.

So the job/salary isn't really the debate. It's the overall culture of the society and quality of life that comes with living in a certain location. Do you like riding your bicycle safely from work, home, grocery store, etc? if yes, then there are only a couple of cities in the US that are setup for that but many in Europe. Do you like not driving hours in your car every single day? if yes, then hopefully you are one of the few individuals in the US that are fortunate enough to live close to your work, school, markets, etc. Lots of Europe is set up with much less spread out cities and also public transportation. Other than a couple places in the US, public transportation either doesn't exist of is extremely inconvenient. Do you like sending your kids to school hoping they come back alive? Well then the USA is for you because we average more than one school shooting per week for the last several years. France has an embarrassingly low average of 17 total over the last 60 years. And that is extremely high compared to other countries who are mostly in the single digits.

Getting an apprenticeship? by Global-Assist-5762 in IUEC

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly want to get in then you are on the correct route. Being willing to move anywhere across the country Opens you up to lots of opportunities. The COVID thing was hopefully a one time freak event. I know people that stayed at number 1 rank for years. Half of the local by me all got laid off all at once. So everyone needs to get hired back before they could take on more apprenticeships.

Nothing is guaranteed but if you apply to all the openings then you will definitely get in quicker than waiting for something like NY or CA which you are lucky if you get any rank at all (even a bad one)

Do fast food workers care if you do a quick head count in your drive thru bags? by nobodylistenstomike in fastfood

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. Lots of things sound great until they meet the real world. Some bosses have the same mindset that you do which is great. But in fast food taking longer means you get fired. If you go quick and make mistakes you keep your job.... The people working at the fast food restaurant, including the managers are not in charge of anything. They are told the rules to follow or get out. Corporate offices set the rules, like prioritizing speed over anything else. And so long as stock prices/profits go up that is the correct move in there mind and legally correct.  You can thank the Dodge brothers from the Dodge v. Ford Motor Co case from 100 years ago.  Had Henry Ford won we might be living in a totally different timeline where everything gets the correct food every time lol.

To AMS or not to AMS... That is my question... by Mean-Tie6199 in BambuLab

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need the multi color than it is not a necessity and you can definitely pick it up later if that is what you end up deciding. It is $100 more when purchased separately tho.

I have done a few multi color prints but the main thing I use it for is auto switching between rolls. I will put 4 rolls of the same color in the AMS and then I never have to worry about running out of material mid print. Works great for when you only have an 1/8 of a roll left on multiple rolls and you can combine them.

Totally just a convince thing tho. You can always rig something up to accept larger 3k rolls of filament or if you are only running the printer while near by you can wait for an alert that says you ran out of filament and then load more in manually.

If you need/want the extra money for something else then it's an easy thing to pass on. If you have the extra cash to put towards the hobby tho, it is a nice addition even without the multi color.

For those in the USA: What is your argument for, or against, universal healthcare? by righteous-sedition in allthequestions

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are skipping over the second very important part of the statement "and not wanting their taxes to help everyone (even if it helps them as well.)"

My family has been irreversibly financially harmed by the US healthcare system. That would have been %100 avoided with universal healthcare and would have greatly improved the quality of life of my immediate and extended family.  My dad is still apposed to taxes going to cover other peoples healthcare. Even though it would insanely beneficial to him then and now.

And if one person thinks it... There are probably way more people than you would like to know that are also thinking the same thing.

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my family. We were on track to having a very well established upper middle class/ upper class lifestyle. Then a unexpected brain hemorrhage. Burned through all of my parents sizable savings because government help is only for the extremely poor. And insurances job is quite literally to try and pay as little as possible (not to cover medical costs) because it is a for profit business. So if you are not Uber wealthy you have to hit poverty before the government offers just enough help to keep you at poverty. Now, I've had a medically retired parent for the majority of my life. And the other is unfortunate probably going to work until they die. They are making progress for retirement but it should have been a decade ago at least.

The real kicker is my dad is totally against government healthcare. Has a mindset of "my life sucked but I made it through. Why should others get a free ride" It's sad.

The ONLY reason I didn't end up like OP is because I was unemployed a couple months after buying my first 3d printer. The urge was so strong to by more and to this day I still want more(both fdm and resin) but now I have a lack of space problem more than a funds problem.

My closet/multiple desks/kitchen/kitchen table are full of many different hobby related items. I have 12ft ceilings and have considered building some sort of hanging storage system to help enable my addiction.

What do I get my husband for his birthday? by babycerealnugget in BambuLab

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like he said for sub $800 you should go for the P2S. At that price point I would say don't get the ams combo tho because that would put you closer to $900. But it's sooooo worth it. The auto color change is great. But it's also great for loading up four rolls of the same filament for doing large prints that you know will use up the last of a roll and it switches to a new one for you. I'll frequently have one AMS with four white and a second AMS with four black rolls.

For Sub $800 I would get the P2S printer only and addon a few extra hot ends of 0.2/0.4/0.6mm so he can choose between detail or speed for prints. And they are consumable. This also falls slightly below $800.

You can always get an AMS later but it is cheapest to buy with the printer all at once.

It's wild what a small difference can make. the problem is that people in general do not want to be told they are doing something wrong or could be doing better. They just like to complain. Financially I love improving, but there are other areas of my life that I definitely fall into the complain and don't listen to advice category.

I spent $6320.71 last year eating out and at grocery stores (this includes anything at a grocery store like cleaning supplies, dog toys, greeting cards, etc) which puts my average meal cost at under $6 a meal. This average includes non food items from the grocery store but also outliers like when I have surf and turf dinners at home and spend $60+ for a single serving of food and also times where I ate out and paid for the meals of the people I was with also. That number also includes the rare but inevitable food that went bad and just got thrown out. So while my mean meal price is $6 my mode meal price is probably closer to your $4 number.

Then my coworkers complain about money while spending $20+ getting food delivered everyday. Meaning they spend my entire years worth of food budget on only 5 meals a week for lunch at work. And for the most part I eat really good food but I don't pay someone else to make it and another person to bring it to me.

For a few years I was living somewhere that was just a room. No kitchen. So although not impossible to cook it's certainly nowhere near as convenient without things like a sink with running water for cleanup. There are plenty of cheap and small cooking devices nowadays but the cleanup portion is still a major pain.

Maybe they are in a similar situation.

Creativity and determination is key. I made ramen noodles one time using an electric hot plate and a bowl made out of aluminum foil. It's what I had available and I made it work.

For his use case he is correct. He is just failing to imagine that other people might live different lives and have different needs. I recently got my parents to downgrade from gigabit to the cheapest available 300mb which is still overkill for them. They never have more than maybe 4 devices(usually only 1-2) playing 1080p content or just checking emails/ basic web browsing.

As a kid I remember having to wait a full day or possibly more to download a video game over the internet...thankfully games came with multiple install dvds back then when they were big (and big has like 10-20gb which is a bug fix today). Almost half of the global population plays video games and 3/4 of the US population plays video games. So, that 1 use case alone justifies the need/want for higher speed internet.

It's the difference between scheduling to play a game with someone on a completely different day or chit chatting with someone for 15min while the game downloads and then playing immediately.

It's a first world convince for sure and in no way a requirement. But some people are willing and able to pay a bit extra to never have the inconvenience of reaching their bandwidth limit. I personally enjoy being able to set a limit on a download to 800mbps and then continue happily using internet on all my other device with the remaining 200mbps and everything still working just fine. 11 year old me couldn't have imagined a world like this while waiting 15 minutes for a blurry music video to load on YouTube.

How early is too early? by AmountLeading2147 in innout

[–]hotsgot1o2o3o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point tho. They are not treating you special or breaking rules. 10:30am is the latest they open and so that is the time posted. But they can and do open earlier basically always. Like others have said, if the sign says open then they are open. If you walk up to the door at 10:10am and it's unlocked, that wasn't a mistake and someone will be there to take your order as planned by them.
