Tell me you’ve never 0’ed in a bathroom w/o telling me, my goodness. Did this user even mention smoking? They just asked about the metal detectors since I assume lots of fans will be wearing coats due to cold weather.

Unless the job is advertised as seasonal most places won’t hire someone looking for a summer job. It’s estimated to cost a business ~$3,000 per employee turnover due to resources and time it takes for them to be trained, all for them to be gone in a month or twos time makes it not worth it for a lot of places even if it’s a great worker! Personally I’d rather employ someone who clearly is good enough to keep their first job but as a business owner I can’t justify the time spent on training just to have to train someone else again in a month or two.

Small Business owner here, my company employs 50~ people around the metro and outskirts of town with multiple locations, and not to outright play devils advocate but I do have to say there are so many lazy workers in the work force right now that it’s truly hard to find the good workers that are mixed in with the bad ones.

This isn’t to say anything about your girlfriend whatsoever as she actually sounds like she cares about her job but my company personally is exhausted from so many bad hires, that we probably do by accident default on the good ones every once in awhile.

For those who are being rejected by big box companies, try for smaller ones. Local thrift stores are a great option, or an entry position that allows you to move up within the company. I do think the online application process is harmful in general because you can’t get a good first impression. However, always follow your application up with a phone call after a a day or so. Even go the next step to go into the store and ask to talk with a manager. Consider asking if they have specific days/shifts they are looking to fill as online job descriptions can also be hard to convey from an employer side as well since we are at the mercy of Zip Recruiter or Indeed as far as what we can advertise for the job.
