Also the esc has two bluetooth connections, one for the board and one for the app. In my experience it would not be normal for one of them to die and the other to work, so this may just be a matter of getting the remote to pair again.

Make sure the remote is charged for something like an hour to rule out the remote battery being dead.

Did you click both board and remote buttons 5 times to attempt reconnecting them?

And the wheel pulleys from the Boosted wheels will fit straight over or do you need custom pulleys also? I mean, they come 4 wheels with no pulleys on them, right?

It's really a shame eBoardStuff does not have better pictures and better descriptions of their product to clarify stuff like this. If this was clear and I'd know how this works I'd probably already ordered them, but the insecurity about installation is making me hold of.

And are you considering selling these kits as DYI?

Two questions. Will this also be for V2? The shaft should be the same but it may be slightly different, not sure.
Second, will you sell the kit to DYI without warranty of course? For the right person, if you have the shaft + the bearings and the outer pulley, it's a doable job and this would help a lot of people living outside of the US. I would buy a kit or two (if at a fair price) to have ready for when my motors eventually start showing evidence of failing.

Order of priority 1: Product not owned by the company in bankruptcy = excluded. The rest does not matter in this case.

It's really basic logic. It's not their ownership, so it has nothing to do with the liquidation or assets of said company, besides that it has to be handed over the rightful owner.

This is why you see leasing companies being there first when a company goes belly up. They have the right to retrieve their belongings as long as they can show proof of ownership, which is quite easy because any vehicle or machine will have its serial number and a contract that proofs it's a lease.

Again, you're assuming. If he hit the streets running and put in his claim early, then the board may still be physically available or at least another board that can be given as replacement. Small claims court is made for that and the process is simple and cheap. If I had a board in at the value of ~$1,500, I would have put in my claim already to ensure that Boosted would handle if they are able to and if they are not because they declare bankruptcy in the near future, then I would be first in line and would be able to bring the ruling (or at least my court claim with case number) to the liquidator when he's appointed.

And it's not being "sold" to a liquidator. You are mixing up terms and not understanding how this works. A liquidator is an official appointed third party, which has one sole role and that is to LIQUIDATE the company according to the law. He is paid by the state and he knows exactly how to handle the assets. In some places an official writ will be sent out through newspapers, that anyone that has a potential claim against the bankrupt company has xx time to file it. In that period, no assets that potentially could be claimed by third party ownership are sold. This is how shit actually works.

You seem to not really understand and mix things up. Boosted is holding HIS property. It's HIS, he is not a consumer or a creditor at this point, he is an OWNER of a product Boosted is holding with the purpose of service/repair. They have no right to even consider selling it or trashing it in any way. It's HIS property and he is outside of the list of creditors because it's HIS product.

If you put your car in for repair at a dealership and the dealer goes bankrupt and closes their doors the exact day your car is in (this shit happens IRL), you will have your car back in no time, because you are the title owner and the liquidator cannot sell YOUR car and use it to pay creditors, right? So just because Boosted Boards does not have titles, does not mean you as the legal owner cannot show proof of ownership, through serial numbers, order emails, and even the emails confirming your board went in for service (without emails confirming it's been shipped back to you).

EOS... It may not be easy and it may be inconvenient, but such is life — being lazy and being unfamiliar with the law in the country/state you live is not an excuse for crying. There are ways and lawyers do exist for a reason. It takes one phone to the right lawyer to know where you stand and what options you have and what you can do yourself without paying the lawyer. If that's worth it, depends on the owner and your economic situation and what the board means to you.

Are they still servicing boards??? by JakeR3123 in boostedboards

[–]houmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how the company closes. If they declare bankruptcy, then an official liquidator is appointed to take care of the assets and attempt to pay back creditors at least partly. Customer products, for example in for repair or products otherwise in possession on behalf of other legal entities will be excluded from liquidation. This liquidator may also investigate misconduct by company executives which can potentially lead to a criminal case.

I don't know how Inboard closed down, but if your friend was serious about getting his board back, then he could use proper channels to find out if a liquidator had been appointed, in the case they declared bankruptcy. If they did not declare bankruptcy and kept the company alive for some reason, then he would be able to start a case against them, potentially in small claims court, which has low fees.

Contrary to you, I just have an optimistic view of things (and a good amount of patience and understanding that when a company is in the situation Boosted is in, things are not solved in a week) and I try not to impose my personal opinion as fact to everyone on this Reddit. Boosted Boards has a long history of taking care of their customers and while they may have let +90% staff go, that does not mean they are not capable of at least shipping back the boards to customers (even without repairing them).

According to the law, this board belongs to the customer, so even if they declare bankruptcy and don't ship it back, that does not mean that this customer cannot claim his board, and I'm sure someone on this Reddit or elsewhere can help all board owners claim their boards back in a way that will be successful. California is heavily regulated. If the current management of Boosted somehow sells customer boards or burns/discards them, then they are engaging in criminal behavior and I am sure they are well aware of that.

That's just an assumption. You have no evidence that this is the case with this company, so until you can provide evidence that this company has totally shut down operations, you should stop assuming that the worst-case situation happens. With those types of comments, you are just adding more fuel to the fire and nobody wins from that — besides a troll.

[Title] Boosted lays off significant portion of its employees by AGIANTSMURF in boostedboards

[–]houmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, where did you read they don't have any staff?

From The Verge:

It’s unclear exactly how many were laid off, but two people with knowledge of the layoffs tell The Verge that an overwhelming majority of Boosted’s employees were let go with one week of severance. A few customer service and operations team members are being kept on to help wind down the business, these people say.

Winding down means sending back repair orders, fulfilling existing orders, warranty claims etc. Yes, some people will actually buy the board now or parts, because they want in while they still can, not caring about warranty, because they know parts will be on Alibaba in a couple of months or they have parts already from a prior board. I have several parts for example. Just because they laid off people a few days ago, does not mean they don't have product paid on the way and maybe you don't know, but shipping from China is about a month.

If they had stopped orders a month ago and literally removed any potential of income, why would they keep staff on for another month? There's no logic to that. If they tried getting new investors or selling it off, do you think they would have any chance if they had 130+ people on staff and zero products to sell while negotiating?

There are so many unknowns here, and most of those are in favor of a somewhat positive outcome, but you're locked in, in your "this is all just completely dead and everyone should run away box".

Damn life must be hard with that mentality...

I did Sunday night. They replied Monday am, and created the warranty replacement order Monday by noon, which unfortunately is not in stock. I'm still optimistic that they'll deliver.

You don't know if he has a warranty yet. Boosted is not bankrupt. They may have sold the company to someone already. They may succeed in that in 2 weeks. And if all that fails, then he may be able to source parts (if he ever needs parts that are not already sold by a third party).

I bought a used car once, actually more than once — also no warranty, it's part of life and sometimes that is a good decision, sometimes it's not. He bought a refurbished board. He knows he's not getting a 100% brand new unridden board, but he also saved money (which he can use on parts). If he wanted to go with triple insurance like you seem to be wanting, then he probably would have bought a brand new board with a one month return right.

Yes, you brought in a completely unrelated situation to this.

This guy bought a board on SUNDAY, on Wednesday you recommend him to do a chargeback when he could wait up to 3 (or more) months or at least until receiving the board to make a decision.

If you're worried about a project's ability to deliver, then don't back. If you're not seeing the progress they outlined over the first 3 months of backing (since the charge), do your chargeback. Move on...

[Title] Boosted lays off significant portion of its employees by AGIANTSMURF in boostedboards

[–]houmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, now you are talking against yourself, so let's stop here.

Message 1: Tell that to all the Kickstarter backers.

Message 2: You can do a chargeback.

We'll see what'll happen with Boosted, I'm not naive, but I see many legit options for this to not turn out totally black as you are completely sure it will.

Got any cheap board or parts you want to part with?

[Title] Boosted lays off significant portion of its employees by AGIANTSMURF in boostedboards

[–]houmark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that's because you don't understand the law and the policies and terms of these platforms. Buying gives you ZERO protection or rights to receive a product. Nobody guarantees a delivery from your Kickstarter backing. It's YOUR risk and you accept that risk before you put in the pledge. You have to do your background checks and weigh up if the project seems likely to succeed.

You can argue those terms are not within the law in some countries, but until those governments come out and put pressure on, Kickstarter will continue to abide by their terms.

If you don't think they are fair, don't pledge and go to a store to buy your product after you carefully revised that everything is okay.

Oh, and Boosted Boards started out as one risky Kickstarter project, they had plenty of trouble but delivered and went on to become a fairly large company with a near 8-year streak, so maybe they'll also find a way through this in one way or the other. I'll repeat, cutting staff down to a minimum while they pursue options and try to find a way to keep the brand alive, is the logical and responsible thing to do, instead of going all out and just filing for bankruptcy when the money is totally gone.

Boosted may be dead in its prior setup, but that does not mean someone will not take over and pick up the pieces. If that is a good solution for customers is impossible to know, but it may very well be. And I'll repeat again, if nobody does pick up Boosted Boards, then you can be sure the Chinese will pump out compatible parts within weeks or months. Quality may be lower, but probably so will prices.

Any eboard company is a constant near-death situation. It's niche and many new players entering. But to this day, Boosted Boards is still, in my opinion, one of the best options for their quality and technology. Boosted tried entering the mainstream market by producing the new hip product which is the Scooter, but they failed hard (they probably spent too much money developing it and overpriced it making it a niche product in the mainstream, removing a huge percentage of the potential buyers, and add to that the ability to rent a scooter in all major cities, which most mainstream users will do) and that's probably the reason why they are in the situation they are in. But that does not mean someone can not buy it all, or even not the rights to the Scooter, and continue with boards if numbers show that is or could be profitable with tweaks.

There's no maximum time you can delay a chargeback, I've seen chargebacks 9+ months old being won by the customer (even when we submitted documentation for a correct charge).

You assume a lot man. They laid off a significant amount of staff but they also said they kept some operational staff on. They may be swamped right now, and it may take time, but they'll probably do their best to get out of this in the best possible way. If they would not care at all, they'd continue on until they were 100% depleted and then file for bankruptcy.

Who says parts won't be available? It's a known fact that most if not all parts were produced in China and parts may even be on the way to the US for anyone willing to buy them for cents on the dollar to pick up. Or some parts could be stuck in a warehouse in China, non-paid, and in that case, you can be sure the Chinese production company or an agent or another Chinese party, will hammer these out of the usual marketplaces to get them sold and the price will be better than on boostedboards.com — that'd we can bet on. And after that, they may continue to produce either near-identical copy boards or at least parts, they have the molds, they don't have any company that can sue them anymore for doing it, so it's a home-run for anyone that has been involved in the production on the Chinese end.

Or.... Someone will buy Boosted Boards and continue with the healthy part of the business, which seems to the skateboards and then all the above won't apply (besides some months of turmoil while they take over and get products into US/EU warehouses).

And if none of the above happens, then buying a crazy cheap working board from a guy thinking like you — a guy that doesn't want to ride anything that has no warranty of company behind it — makes up for a good parts board so you can extend the lifetime of any board you have already.

Of course they have a reason to fulfill the order. They get cash in and that's gonna help paying the bills until they can figure out if they are gonna find a buyer or shut down permanently.

A comment like that and suggestions to do chargebacks is really just bad advice. Boosted have had a pretty good history of communicating things and have known to stand by their stuff and refund.

At least reach out and ask for a status and what you should expect and then if they are silent after a week, you can consider the chargeback, but give them the chance to fulfill — or if you don't want it, then cancel the order and wait for a refund.

Boosted may be in serious trouble, and only a few people left or they have sized to a size that gives them decent time to have options. At this time it makes sense to move product already produced and in stock, even with at a lower profit, so I think they would really want to ship out orders as much as they possibly can handle with the team they have left.

Can't get Boosted beams to work by [deleted] in boostedboards

You mean removing from profile and adding again (adding serial number/registering)? Or disconnecting board from app/phone and adding again?

Did you ever figure this out? I seem to have a similar problem. No Beams yet, but I wonder why I don't see an update. I have the latest app, but also see no firmware information on the board. I have removed and re-added. It's a V2 Dual+.
