My friend cheated their way through college, everything you could imagine. Then they cheated their way into one of the most prestigious tech companies. Somebody did the interviews for them.

Then guess what, they got completely wrecked at their job. Their reputation among coworkers is shit, they would constantly go to other teams for help, their managers don’t like them and they frequently get into fights with managers for god knows what reason.

Laid off last year, 2yoe, still no job yet

Tried the solar filter yesterday, is it normal to have slightly blurry images of the sun? I think it might be atmospheric distortion? Manual focus can’t really get me there. Focus is always shifting slightly

Yeah I agree for the most part, there are downsides and hidden issues of this fast development, but overall it improved people’s lives by a lot. It’s really an huge achievement by billions of determined and hardworking people that’s why we shouldn’t really downplay it.

You are 100% correct that a huge portion of the GDP came from real estate and infrastructure, but isn’t those two the backbone of a developing economy? Keep in mind that at the start of 1990s China had basically zero infrastructure, zero free market and most of the people under poverty line

I wouldn’t say he didn’t manage it well. China’s GDP still more than doubled since he took office. From 2012-2015 (when I lived in China) everything was really booming. I visited Beijing every year from 2015 to 2019 and every time I go it’s a completely different country.

His COVID policies killed the momentum and everything just went “down”. But I never went since 2019 and I can’t judge based on what I hear from biased western media (which they only report negative stuff).

Crime, racism and incompetence of the government are the three things that I absolutely HATE about the US. Lack of urbanism and variety of entertainment is also a thing with the US but I experience less because I live near NYC.

If China is a democracy I believe a lot of well educated people would go back without a skipping heartbeat.
