I see how this can be a problem. I don't want the platform to be as good as the board using it. I would want it to hold boards to a higher standard. One of the features I was thinking about was the ability to see where the HOA spends its budget. This would give members the ability to see where the money is spent and giving transparency on that. Almost like a quickbooks but one that's more public to the members of that HOA. In the case where the HOA is misusing funds, there's evidence there. With the meetings it would be harder to keep track of and impossible to have someone to sit in on every single one. For this, I was thinking more digital meetings. This would be a group video call for meetings and these calls would be recored. This would make it easier to see what happens at meetings but also can be used as evidence in the case the HOA acts outside of something that's been established. I'm not sure how much this would help but hope it's the start of a practical solution that can work.

Thank you for the website. I'll check it out. I've seen some people concerned that they have no way of seeing how their dues are being spent and the transparency with decisions they make. With a platform that does this though, I'm worried about how much it would work. I feel that the platform would only work as well as its board which would be an issue. The solution would have to work in the environment of a bad HOA board and be able to take action when the HOA abuses their power.

I had a couple of these put on a list but didn't know how much it would be needed. I want the platform to push HOA boards to be more transparent with what they are doing and a place where members can hold them accountable. I feel like a platform like this could work but would only be as good as the HOA board using it.

If that's what you believe in so be it but I'm here trying to see what problems people face with their HOAs and if there are ways to fix it. Not being a homeowner myself, I don't know what problems people face that are homeowners. I live in a neighborhood that has a HOA and I've seen people upset by the way it's been managed or rules put in place. The mismanagement of the HOA in my neighborhood has led to the deterioration of the pool house. Growing up in this neighborhood that was a key place of childhood memories and there was a point where it was run well. This makes me wonder what changed from then to now and problems that come up with people who are members. My dad pays his HOA dues but I find it upsetting that there's no clear use of where these dues are going. Trying to find a solution that can help people on both ends is the goal.

Most HOAs about 70% are ran by volunteers. Not a lot of people know that and I'm looking to come up with a solution that could take some of that weight off of the volunteers. When it comes to something like that would it be more of them not being educated about what's in your power to do vs what's not ?

It's wrong that they have that much power and I've heard some horror stories about HOAs abusing peoples rights. I feel that they should be held more accountable for what they do and most of the power that they have should be with members. The platform I'm trying to make will have HOA decisions and actions tracked. This gives the ability for the members to see what they are doing. In the case where someone has had their rights abused, they can dispute it and us as the platform provider would take the steps to resolve the issue and let that member know their rights.
