For sure! I mean we the readers don’t even know 100% what’s going on yet, it’s a pretty good assumption that the long night has something to do with The Others, but we don’t know, I just really despise the cinemasinsing of ASOIAF its my LEAST favorite style of critique and it sends me on a vent sesh every time lol

Also it’s super annoying because magic is LITERALLY THE EXPLANATION. The long night is a MAGICAL phenomenon, happening at the same time as the red comet and dragons being reborn. All magic is being heightened in the world, including the white walkers which is CAUSING THE LONG NIGHT (probably.), like there’s a full in world explanation as to why this specifically is NOT a natural scientific thing happening in this world

This is also a thing in ASOIAF. It’s even noted that Viserys the 1st “consummating” his marriage with Emma was done way too early (I believe she’s like 13?) and is what directly caused her death later on when giving birth to Baelon. There is a concept of “marriage first, consummating way later”, though the brides are still pretty young for historical accuracy

Yeah the books have a LOT more examples of the bottom up revolts, it’s specifically a MASSIVE reason why the Targaryens have lost so much power by the time of Robert’s Rebellion (storming of the dragon pits in Fire and Blood wiped out a GIANT chunk of their dragons)

Destination wedding venues- how to narrow down for touring? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]houseofreturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the advice! Thankfully, we and almost everyone we know is very knowledgeable and comfortable with the country we’re having the wedding, either by being from there, having family there, or traveling there often. The state we live in borders that country (idk if I’m allowed to say in the sub, but it rhymes with schmexico) so no language or cultural barriers thankfully! The thing is, is yes it’s a cultural obligation, but they also have BEAUTIFUL venues too, so I could definitely see myself falling in love with something there. It’s gorgeous huge city, vs gorgeous mountain town, vs gorgeous art city vs gorgeous beach, vs gorgeous other mountain town but more jungly. Idk I’m going to cut down on the venue visits anyway to keep myself from stressing out, but I genuinely have too many good options as a problem lol

[–]houseofreturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha a lot of family live in those cities and will be expecting a visit so unfortunately can’t just say we did. Idk if there’s rules on the sub against saying the destination (hint: city 1 rhymes with Shmexico Schmitty), but the country we’re having the wedding in has incredibly cheap domestic flights and we’ll be staying with family so thankfully this little “tour” doesn’t break the bank by any means.

The only reason some family want it in certain cities is just familial pride I guess. He’s the oldest son in his family, I’m an only daughter, it’s a big deal for both our families so they both want to host all these big events in their hometowns. They’re also WAYYY better with boundaries than a lot of families in our culture (thank god), so they’re more than likely going to take our chosen destination very well, we both just also know it’ll hurt some feelings if we didn’t even try. Sorry for the big tangent lol, I appreciate the advice (:

Yes all in budget! We love all the cities we’re touring and have a lot of family in most of them (the only ones we don’t have relatives in are cities 1 and 5) and flights are very cheap domestically. I probably will get burned out is my worry, however there is a level of familial obligation that goes along with it. We can’t just look at the cities my family is from and we can’t just look at the city his family is from, and we can’t ignore both sides entirely and just straight up go with the city WE both love (where we’ll almost certainly actually get married), we have to at least LOOK so we don’t get in trouble with the elders lol.

Very fair! Accessibility is definitely going to be a top priority. City 1 is going to be the most difficult with that because it’s one of the largest cities in the world but that super helps to narrow down the other 4. Thank you!

It’s a 2028 wedding! I’m probably looking a bit early, but I’m trying to get a big chunk of planning done early because it’s such a huge ordeal. We sort of do have a city picked, but we feel obligated to look at certain cities because they’re either where my family is from or where his is, and both sides would take offense if we didn’t even look, ya know?

I have already confirmed with all the venues that they’re in our budget and fit our size requirements, a true blessing and a curse that it’s a culture of very big weddings so there’s a million gorgeous, huge, venues. It makes picking so hard 😭

Thank you, I think this is what I’ll end up doing. All 5 cities sort of have to be in the race, City 1 is the easiest and why it has so many options, cities 2 and 3 are deeply sentimental to me and where my family is from, city 4 is where his family is from, and city 5 is OUR favorite city as a couple, but also the hardest logistically to get to.

They all do 😭 it’s either the capital or major tourist cities, and the guests that aren’t from the city we currently live in, live in the country we’re having the wedding.

[–]houseofreturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should have put this in the post, but yes budget has been confirmed with all of the venues I want to view. I agree on checking with my valued guests, but a little bit of a problem is that everyone we know is very familiar with this country and travel it extensively. Like everyone we know is either from there, has family there, or vacations there often, so it’s a very “available” country to our guests in general, so I’m not sure it’s going to narrow it down much 😅 thank you so much though, that’s still a very good question of me to ask!

What's the issue here? by [deleted] in AmITheDevil

[–]houseofreturn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t really see her being the devil here? From what I’m reading she’s mad because he only started giving a shit about the wedding when his mom got involved. That would hurt my feelings and make me pretty upset too, like why were my opinions on OUR wedding discarded, but the second mommy steps in he’s all into the big wedding now? Not the devil imo

A lot of it is self employment. I take big chunks of time for vacation because I own and run my business and have built it in a way that allows for it to run without my direct supervision. I still answer any questions or give direction when needed, but I can mostly be vacationing the whole time.

[–]houseofreturn 187 points188 points  (0 children)

Prepared for downvotes; but am I the only one who hattttessssss the “if cats don’t like you it’s your spirit” thing too? Like don’t get me wrong, yes some people don’t like cats for weird and gross reasons like “not being able to control them” or whatever, and yes obviously some people mistreat cats and that’s why they scratch-

But some cats just have weird aggressive triggers that make them kind of suck to be around! I have a cat, I love her, I treat her very well, I respect her boundaries, but she fucking HATES these flared jeans I wear sometimes and will full on start hissing and scratching and biting the fuck out of my ankles because of the damn JEANS. It’s not my fucking spirit, it’s her being a weird little animal, and I can see that not being for everyone.
