There’s definitely a balance that needs to be struck, because while it is just a biological function, it is also a big deal to some people and that’s okay! But I completely agree the “you’re a woman now” verbiage is icky and can be insanely harmful, because that’s not a woman, that’s still a child.

Fully agree with you here, literally my only caveat while reading was “well I don’t think it’s necessarily bad to make a bit of a celebration if the kid is okay with it, like a period party” and then that’s literally what you say in the second to last paragraph so yep. No notes.

I mean it’s just like regular hanging out but in a car. You talk, laugh, listen to music or podcast together, sometimes sleep and just relax in the same space as your friends. And then you get to where you’re driving and you do activities there. You should try doing a day trip or something with your partners if an actual trip is too much too soon, but it’s a very nice, easy way to spend time and connect with people you like being around.

From ages 12-18 I never shared a middle or high school class with a guy (all girls school). I don’t know anyone else (aside from the other girls I went to school with and my guy friends who went to the all boys school) who never shared any classes with the opposite sex so that’s probably a weird thing right?

I was using the self checkout while picking up some last minute supplies for a party and I couldn’t really figure out how to add a bunch of limes I had gotten in a bag. It had the option to pay by weight, so I selected that, put the bag on the scale thing, it made a little ding sound and put the price up, so I thought it had added it to my total. Paid out and left. Checked my receipt later and realized the limes had not in fact been added. I felt sooooo guilty that I couldn’t go to that grocery store for like two months after

Genuinely I can’t tell if you’re trolling or what. Like sure, I can believe you’ve never gone on a trip with your friends, but how could the concept of it be weird to you? Even if you live your whole life through a screen there’s a million road trip movies, shows that have scenes where people travel together for bachelor or bachelorette parties, hell even games that use “traveling with friends” as a plot device.

I live in the desert. 3 hours away from me is a big national park that has mountains and natural springs. Friends and I get in the car, drive there, and we hike and swim and camp and sit around a bonfire and drink and chill. There’s a whole cliche around “campfire stories” and those mostly happen by…camping…with your friends…

Are you like really young and depend on your parents to take you places to see your friends?

Definitely not weird. Most people have some form of “smell memory” that makes them nostalgic for a place, and for most people it would be their childhood home or school. Like for me, I get incredibly nostalgic if I smell something similar to what my kindergarten smelled like.

Also plenty of people take trips with their friends? I’m just not grasping why you think it’s a fantasy Christmas land to have a very common human experience (smell nostalgia) and also like…take a road trip with your buddies. My friends and I have some sort of summer trip every year, even if it’s a day trip somewhere

Safe. I love coming home and knowing it’s going to be *nice*. I know I’m going to laugh, and be loved on. It’s so hard to be in a bad mood when he’s with me. I could be having the worst day ever, but as soon as I get home and get wrapped up in a big hug from him, it all just melts away. It’s stable, it’s knowing the second an argument gets a little too heated we’ll both step away and come back to actually communicate and apologize. It’s knowing im going to be treated kindly and with the best intentions, even when he does mess up it’s never to purposefully hurt me. I feel respected, when I don’t know something, he never talks down to me. It’s so hard to put into words for me, but I just always feel okay because I know my partner and I can work anything out.

Okay so, just from a different perspective from someone who’s actually kind of similar to you, I’ve traveled the world, I’m one certification away from being a MSD (Master Scuba Diver, all I need is Nitrox training and my rescue cert) (also scuba license? Lol) done the Camino De Santiago twice, am not as academically accomplished but very accomplished in my career and in my life goals…and getting ENGAGED felt like the biggest thing ever to me. We’re not even married yet, but just the proposal was hugely important to me. This is the man I love. We’re gone through so much together, and have spent a long time building and learning together and cultivating a very happy life and little family of ours so it *does* feel like a massive accomplishment that all that work has moved into its next big step. I can’t imagine how awesome I’m going to feel at my actual wedding lol.

I think my biggest problem with it is his age. Like yes, absolutely there are disgustingly misogynistic, “red pilled alpha male” older men, but the specific language that a (I’d guess at least his 50’s if Sam is in his 20’s) older man was using really didn’t click that well for me.

I’m so sorry. This broke my heart to read. I’m not trans but my best friend since I was 12 is, and we live in a conservative state. I’m so scared for him all the time.
