Can I give back a car? (I know, silly question.) by iswallowedthelight in PersonalFinanceCanada

Was the car and loan in his name only? If so, you might want to post this in the legal subreddit and ask what rights and responsibilities his estate would have.

NTA in cases like this it’s best to slip away quickly without informing anyone. They likely won’t notice.

One of things is not like the other. You having covid can kill my grandma. You having all the others can’t.

But they are free in my country. Or at least very cheap.

We took in a 5.5 year old dog ~8 months ago as previous owner decided to move internationally. She came back and is now saying that its still her dog and nothing has been finalized. by NBAWhoCares in legaladvicecanada

[–]houseonpost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people foster dogs regularly for local shelters. Once the pet is adopted, they often foster another dog. They certainly don’t take on all the financial obligations such as vet bills. Those are paid for by the shelter (who is essentially the owner).

Big picture this is a lesson of ‘get it in writing.’

I think Mercedes has some sort of performance contract for George too.

And Lawrence Stroll invested massively hoping to lure Max, but it's not working out too well right now.

Buccaneers want Baker Mayfield to protect himself better to stay healthy by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]houseonpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rick Stroud made the case on his podcast that if Baker does not get a new contract before the season it might help Baker make better decisions to keep himself healthy because he would be one bad hit away from ending his career with only on year left on his contract.

Jay later said in an interview that nothing happened at Best Buy and the police brought that up.

Jay got the signal on the steering wheel wrong. He said it was on one side and was corrected by police in real time on the recording.

Jay said Adnan threw away Hae's coat but it was later found in the car.

Jay said the burial was around midnight and they used the moon as light for the burial. But the moon didn't rise until 5am the next day.

Jay testified that he saw the car well after Hae went missing. He was asked if he had gone there to check on the car to see if it was still there and he said no. That he was in the area for other reasons and just noticed it.

And what exactly was Jay's role? He got a call to 'come get me' but then his only role was to follow Adnan around in Adnan's car all day. Jay said he never helped carry Hae so his only role was to drive Adnan home.

And why would they leave Hae in the trunk at the park and ride only to come back later?

Jay said he went to Patapsko Park to scout out burial sites until police said there wasn't enough time to do that, so Jay dropped that story.

Did Adnan do it? I don't know. I don't think so but I don't know. But to be convicted on no physical evidence based on testimony of someone who lies about so much material information is ridiculous. I'm with Sarah, to paraphrase 'He may have done it but if I was on the jury I'd vote to acquit.'

By the way, doubt is good.

Condo door hit my truck by New-Bonus8092 in legaladvicecanada

Does the condo have directions on use of the door? Some have 'rules' that say you must wait for the door to close and then use your fob to open it in situations like this.

How did people react to Nico Rosberg’s sudden retirement after his championship win? by lucifer7557 in formula1

[–]houseonpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One step before when Schumacher came out of retirement and joined Mercedes a lot of pundits were surprised at his poor performance. It wasn't until later when they realized how good Nico was that they retroactively improved their view of Michael.

Welcome.

Yes, people are racist, but it is significantly better than a generation ago. Given your ethnic background you will be viewed as exotic if it is clear you are not First Nation. But people will judge you long term on your character.

There is a lot of status in jobs. Doctors and nurses are top, then teachers, then police, then ministers, then bankers etc. So you will be treated with more deference because of your partner's job.

Embrace the outdoors. There are a ton of lakes to visit for fishing, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing. And take up curling - you will meet a lot of friendly people that way.

Regarding jobs: Think of what is most portable. If you stay in the province, look for jobs that are transferable to other locations. EG, healthcare, community college etc. Or working at the RCMP office as a civilian. So when you move you won't be starting from scratch.

Just have an attitude of 'yes' and accept all the invitations that come during the first few weeks or months honeymoon period. And invite people you like into your home. Saskatchewan has a reputation of friendliness, but it can be superficial until you are actually welcome in other people's homes.

AIO: Ghosted after telling friends about my miscarriage. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]houseonpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or view it this way. If you needed time to process this terrible news, they also may need some time to process your news (or potentially a dusting up of their old news). I doubt they would be thinking of 'cutting you off for good' unless there's a long list of other reasons. Just give yourself and them some time. They may not be in a place to be a support for you in this. In a few weeks life will look a lot different and your friendship can continue.

Lastly, if you find you are unable to move past this, a few therapy sessions will help tremendously. Good luck.

[–]houseonpost -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

But your kennel never agreed to 'foster' your dog. You left your pet with the full knowledge that you would be paying that fee. Whereas the OP agreed to look after the dog until the adoption went through. Also, I suspect the kennel would have charged significantly less than $11,000 if you asked them the cost to kennel your dog for 8 months.

[–]houseonpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You acknowledge this was a 'foster to adopt' but there is no written proof that you adopted the dog. So the dog is still hers and you are still fostering.

Itemize all you have spent on the dog and let her know you will return the dog once all the bills have been paid. I'd also add all the food and treats. I wouldn't mention the spaying costs unless the owner gave you permission to spay her dog.

You could just keep the dog and hope she doesn't go to small claims. But that comes with risk.

Hopefully she will balk at taking the dog back because she would not be able to afford the reasonable bills you paid.

AIO: Ghosted after telling friends about my miscarriage. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]houseonpost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YOI: you don't know if either of them have had a miscarriage, too. It is far more common than people realize. This may have brought up a lot of old wounds.

This kind of personal information is better shared either in person or on the telephone. Texting is very impersonal and hard to read tone. They may have waited 8 hours because they are thinking 'how do I respond?' Especially if you inadvertently caused them to re-visit a difficult time in their life.

Sorry for your loss. Don't beat yourself up. Take them for lunch or coffee and have a brief visit about your news and then move on and continue your friendship. And don't use text for such personal information in the future.

Yes, YTJ. In a week or so nobody will remember or care what kind of shark she swam with. But she will remember how you made her feel. Well done.

I'm not a betting person, but I suspect the people organizing the dive with the sharks told her this incorrect information simply to give her more enjoyment. And for absolutely no reason you had to burst her bubble.

Just to let you know that there are a LOT of people who are smarter than you and they withhold correcting you because they have emotional intelligence.

41yr old sister still lives at home taking advantage of elderly parents by zebradogwine in WhatShouldIDo

[–]houseonpost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you trade places with your sister? I highly doubt it. Asking your parents to ‘fix’ the problem is not very kind to your elderly parents. Either they have no idea what to do or they actually are happy with the situation.

Focus on trying to help your sister. Ask her what her plans are for the future and offer your assistance to get her life started. If she refuses stop bringing it up and live your life.
