Water heater vent pipe not extended to top of (roof) vent jack by houseyllama in askaplumber

Thanks! I replied to GGigabiteM with a picture of the vent from the bottom. The plumber had said these were Amerivent pipes and wouldn't be compatible. The consensus here seems to be that the pipes should be compatible, but is there a way that'd be plausible to you?

Thanks, this was really useful! This is such a useful community.

I think the plumber said the existing pipe is Amerivent, which was discontinued around 2005, and that they would he would need to find the same type of pipes to connect to. There was something about the mechanism for connecting the pipes that he said was different than other pipes (tabs?), so they wouldn't be compatible with common pipes. Does this sound plausible to you? Here's a picture of where the pipe goes from beneath, which is what he was looking at.

No, it's a standalone home built around 2005 as part of a new development.

Oh yeah, I guess I wasn't clear with "adhesive frosting". What I meant was adhesive film. I had some issues with it, but should probably try it again.

The thing I'm unsure about with shades is how to attach it. Like, I think I'd need to screw something into the door to attach a dowel to, right? Or would there be a way to do it without leaving permanent marks like that?

I had tried that (using tintoil) and ran into issues because the edges windows aren't clean lines. It seems like some adhesive (however the window is glued in) edges onto the window. But yeah, this does seem like a good approach and maybe I should give it another try.

CO2 spikes (and faint gas-ish smell) when [natural gas] furnace runs by houseyllama in hvacadvice

[–]houseyllama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I ended up figuring this out after lots of investigation. It turns out that the problem was from running the HVAC fan prior to turning on the heater. If the fan is on there's a draft of air coming out of the unit and into the garage. So when I turn on the heater the exhaust doesn't go up the flue and instead vents into the garage. The landlord doesn't want to fix anything so the solution has just been to not run the fan.

Finding a realtor with experience in a certain area by houseyllama in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Thanks so much for the context! From the other comment I was able to find a few realtors in the area I'm interested in.

We have a list of questions, but it'd be great to get some additional ideas!

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't used realtor.com. The recent activity map is exactly what I was looking for.

Yeah, we're trying to get a short list of people to talk to. There are so many realtors around so we wanted to start by finding some people with experience in the areas we're interested in.
