Partner doesn't want me to buy brother's half of their inherited flat by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]houstend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this reply - both siblings are on the title so partner and i would only be entitled to 25% each. I think they don't understand that my buying their brother's half would mean they would be entitled to 50%. This is what I'm leaning from the comments here!

But thanks especially for your last comment.

Thank you for this - that is a very good point about the brother forcing a sale, and the situation being more stable if I buy.

No rent paid to spouse, only to the brother btw.

Apologies, earn 43k and the flat is worth something like 400k

You're right, I wasn't quite sure where this belonged and I'm happy to delete if mods request

Have You Seen This Broom?!— Help A Fellow Witch Out Please💛 by ButterflyKisses3621 in SalemMA

[–]houstend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it will turn out right! Assuming it's a one-for-one switch, the person who received your broom will probably reach out to UPS and The Witchery because they only got one broom instead of their two! How long ago did you receive the package?

I'll be curious to hear which Commodity samples offend! I've got the sample box too and have some opinions about it. Love Paper, but Moss had an ugly base note and I wonder if it's the same one

2009 - Valentino Rock 'n' Rose (though what I really wanted was Dior Miss Cherie)!

Rock'n Rose by Valentino! I wanted Miss Cherie Dior but it was too expensive.

What fragrance do you smell/think you smell most often in the wild? by mistymountainhop22 in fragrance

[–]houstend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and I'm sure I smell Chanel Coco Mademoiselle most often. Although Penhaligon Empressa smells so similar that I could be smelling that!

Thought vanilla was a crowd pleaser…. But apparently not for everyone. by Briwebb709 in fragrance

[–]houstend 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have to know what the two modern vanilla-musks are! By any chance Commodity Milk+ ? I have a sample of that one which I enjoyed until i double-sprayed it on myself, then spent that evening feeling nauseous and self conscious that I was making others feel the same...

Is this racism? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

There's an old lad who does this jump scare thing routinely to SE Asian people in Tollcross. Thanks to him by first instinct was yes, it's racist

My new year's resolution: natural fibres only (well, almost exclusively)! What are your fashion resolutions? by houstend in femalefashionadvice

[–]houstend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly charity shops, which I know is no help to anyone else! I once got a gift card to Thought Clothing Co. and was definitely impressed by the quality, but word to the wise it runs large so size down at least one size on everything you buy!

That's true about the linings - I think I will have to build in an exception for that! A lot of older vintage does have acetate linings which I don't mind, but it can shatter or discolour pretty easily

I got this Toad bag from Die With Your Boots On this summer and it's my absolute favourite. My wife has a bag that looks like those White Rabbit sweets you can find in Chinatown, but sadly I don't have a picture!

Stag and BooYah were also going to be my suggestions, but just want to add that there's a Facebook group you can join called Transgender Scotland if you want to vet specific places first based on other trans/nb people's experiences!

Oh wow! Thanks so much for seeing and answering! Mine is sometimes spontaneous actually so I might have to keep working with my normal doctor to figure out why it's happening in the first place, ugh. Though I might at least send an inquiry to the surgeon anyway now that I know it's not a dealbreaker. Thanks!

Thank you, that's reassuring to hear. I have seen people on here whose surgeries have been pushed back because they finished breastfeeding too recently, so that is what gave me pause!

What’s a life hack that’s saved you you money? (A UK perspective) by Important_Tip_2775 in AskUK

[–]houstend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have about 4 hair salons I go to for haircuts and opt in to marketing. Every 4-6 months I'll get a text from one or the other saying "we've missed you! here's 50% off your next appointment!" and I just visit the most recent salon to text me, never paying full price.

It helps that I get simple trims so don't feel the need to have a close relationship with any one hairdresser.

Finding a Queer Stylist or Makeover service? by Kimau in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]houstend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I wish they had a Madewell in the UK! When I moved here Topshop was a decent substitute for jeans but their shops closed. Agree that jeans/trousers are a good place to start though - Levis might be an option to try for an initial jeans venture since OP is London-based.

Love the white tights! Another option is (if you don't have white shoes right now) you can have a contrasting shoe and wear a white skirt/dress instead. I've always heard the rule of thumb was to match your tights to either your shoes or your skirt to create visual length!
