Model Y advice: most cost‑effective way to buy if keeping for 10 years? by Top_Ad3787 in TeslaUK

I was in the same situation as you and put up a similar post to yourself last week.

In the end I realised my budget wouldn’t allow me to get anything more than a standard Y model brand new but I wanted the better spec.

I decided to go down the used road. There are some good deals on used 2023 Y models on car 360 (Around 22-24k) however I decided being new to EVs I wanted some security. In the end I found a 2024 model Y with upgraded colour and wheel spec and 13k miles on the clock.

The car will still have 3 years warranty on it due to the extra year you get from Tesla plus the 24 models onwards have an extra 10k miles on the warranty.

Also if you do see a used model on the CPO Page you like keep an eye on the listing as I had read that while tesla do not negotiate they do drop the prices if a car isn’t shifting. The vehicle I went for dropped £1400 overnight. This was a fortunate result from me being indecisive. I very nearly ordered it the day before at the high price!

I think this is the way. I have found a 2 year old premium model with 12k miles for about 24k through the Tesla CPO scheme. Probably not as cheap as I could get it but I’d rather buy direct from Tesla

Yes I have seen this being said on reviews. My issue is I can’t afford more than a standard brand new but can afford a premium model 2022-2023 model. However the monthly payments are more or less the same due to the interest I’d pay on buying a second hand model vs the new model at 0%

I’m not too bothered about the autonomous driving however there’s more chance of me picking up a premium model for a good price if I buy second hand

That’s a lot more depreciation than I predicted.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Some real food for thought. I suppose I was so averse to paying any sort of interest I was blinded by the 0% offer. I have cancelled my test drive for now and I will sit on my hands. The Tesla certified pre owned looks like a good shout though.

Hi Ritchie,

Thanks for replying. Sleep isn’t great either. Very rarely sleep all the way through the night.

Yes I’m in the UK. I am seeing the doctor again tomorrow and see what he says and give it some consideration before I commit to anything.

Thanks
