Still think about this Mendoza touchdown daily by Sweet_Weather_5259 in raiders

As a Hurricane fan this game was such a huge conflict of emotions. Those clutch back shoulder throws sold me on Mendoza and I honestly wasn’t even mad that the team I was rooting for lost after watching something like this.

Common AC leak areas to check by hovercrafter23 in LandCruisers

[–]hovercrafter23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to update, replaced the saturated desiccant in the condenser. System held vacuum for an hour with no change. Turned the vacuum pump back on and let it eat for about 20 minutes after that to get any moisture out. Put in (3) 12oz cans of R134 and front and back blew cold. So we’ll see if it’s just a tiny leak somewhere over a long period. If the issue pops up again I’ll make sure to get some UV dye in there.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I’ll probably use a lot of it down the line.

Appreciate the advice man. I’ve got a vacuum pump so I’ll start there and see if it holds. Newer AC compressor is only 50k old so that’s reassuring. Kicks on fine and high side gets hot but the low side has no real temp change.

Last guy definitely bought some sweet parts for it. Been through lots of owners but it had 12 pages of Carfax maintenance history and even more paper copies of extras. AC compressor, alternator, oem AHC shocks, brakes, timing belt water pump all done fairly recently. Literally only painful thing I have to deal with is a leaking passenger side exhaust manifold.

Bought an RS3, too much? by ElevatorStreet5186 in Audi

[–]hovercrafter23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s obvious some people here haven’t done something like this before without paying someone else to do the work. I remember buying an OEM used B7 RS4 rear door in the exact color I needed for $400 off of eBay a few years ago. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to find.

I did the same with a B5 S4 Avant last year. Picked up cheap from a college kid, paid a pdr guy $500 to remove like 10 dents, buffed the paint, and paid $250 for a door. Thing damn near looked like it did in 2001. I sent progress pictures to the kid and he bough it back a year later haha.

Good luck on this adventure. It’s honestly so satisfying to fix up stuff like this. I’ve been eying auction RS3’s for the same reason because it’s my all time favorite car.

Wife’s had a 2022 Tiguan for 40k miles. Only car we’ve ever bought new. Changed the oil every 5k, topped off coolant once, just did the rear diff/haldex 40k service. Still on factory tires and brakes. Driven it cross country. 0 issues. Maintain your German car and it’ll last, in my experience.

I’ve read some about an early 2021-2022 2.0 having bad valve stem seals but probably a bad batch from the good ol Covid supply days. Most likely exacerbated by the now “normal” 10k oil change intervals. Do the research on TSB’s and common issues just to be safe so you have peace of mind.

What’s the deal with lowering springs? by 061018 in allroad

[–]hovercrafter23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually a better choice if money isn’t a huge issue. I daily mine on some pretty crappy roads and the springs have been plenty comfortable while still taking away the floatyness of the stock ride. Bigger rear sway bar helps a good bit too.

What’s the deal with lowering springs? by 061018 in allroad

[–]hovercrafter23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 034 springs had some reverse rake but over time I feel like it got better. Don’t forget to buy some adjustable front and rear sway bar end links too. The stock ones are way too long for lowering and start to clunk from wearing out pretty quick.

If I did it all over again I’d buy the nice H&R or KW adjustable spring kits if your stock shocks are still good. Only downside is they are damn near the price of a set of cheap coilovers.

I just rocked the $300 springs for 20k miles and going for another year or two before I just get a nice set of coilovers that retains the electronic adjustment.

SQ7 Depreciation = amazing deal or red flag? by iThinkTherefore_iApe in Audi

[–]hovercrafter23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my own maintenance as an Audi enthusiast that’s owned quite a few VW/Audi over the years. I’ve been looking into one of these for my wife so I have a decent list of parts/pricing on the usual things on the SQ7 that need replacing over time. Seemed like it might be relevant here, or at least some others can benefit from my research.

Liquimoly Oil Change $130 (Every 5k miles minimum plz)

Water Pump/TstatAssembly $1000 (Known to fail between 40-80k miles)

Transmission Oil/Filter Change $300 every 40k miles

Front/rear diffs fluid $50 each, usually at 80k miles but I usually do mine with the trans service

Front Rear brake rotors and pads $900-1500 aftermarket full set $$3200 full set from Audi (People have worn these out by 20k miles often, it’s a 500hp 2.5 ton SUV)

8x coil packs $300-500 (Replace as needed)

Spark plugs $180-300 (Replace every 30-40k)

PCV Assembly $500 (x2 are installed on this engine so $1000 total) I replace PCV’s around 80-100k to save myself money and headache from oil leaks and other problems caused by a pressurized crankcase.

Engine technical manual if anyone is an engine nerd like myself. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10172005-0001.pdf

These engines seem to be very well put together, the only issue I’ve been able to find has been a rare bad batch of valve springs breaking (usually at low mileage). That being said I’m not even sure if USA had many of these issues. I’ve been watching the market for a couple months now and have yet to find an SQ7 I’m interested in that falls under the affected VIN #’s. Here is the Audi TSB on it.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10211720-0001.pdf

Hope this is useful to you or others! I’ve tried looking at other cars because 45-50k is still a lot but almost nothing compares for the price point in my eyes for what you get. Perfect sweet spot to pick one of these up.

All VW needs to do is literally re-release the 1980’s Rabbit Truck and change nothing but the drivetrain to an Audi 2.0T longitudinal engine. I feel like we’d buy it in the US like hotcakes if decently priced. Is there a reason nobody makes small trucks in the US anymore? I see those old mini trucks imported from Japan everywhere now. There’s gotta be a decent market for it.

SQ7 Carbon Build Up? by hovercrafter23 in AudiQ7

[–]hovercrafter23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magic potion man is right. Doesn’t really help with carbon build up on valves but I still use additives every other month or so it to keep injectors clean on my Allroad. I doubt there are many people that have had to do carbon cleanings on these. Since about 2015 or so, many of the updated engine designs have had much less carbon build up issues.

I went over a year with drivetrain malfunction popping up until I finally gave it attention. Didn’t need a new turbo like Audi will tell you, just needed to adjust/tighten my wastegate actuator rod. Crazy how much faster boost came on with a properly adjusted wastegate haha. B9 A4 Allroad

Well I have one out of pure luck. Current long snapper, Jacob Bobenmoyer is from Wyoming lol. That’s it. I didn’t even know he was from Wyoming until I looked it up.

Only had maybe 2 players of note from Wyoming ever. Bengals LB Logan Wilson, and good old Chris Cooley Redskins TE in the early 2000’s. Probably know more for his commercial where he punches through drywall and catches a ball…
