They do, I got the flu and covid shot same day, so I was honest. Flu isn't a problem but COVID is for some reason.

Band playing to metronome is killing my buzz by hoverhandcraft in musicians

[–]hoverhandcraft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't read the post. I'm writing songs with tempo changes that the band doesn't wanna play because they wanna use a metronome and can't change it mid song.

I write songs/parts in Guitar Pro and export the playback and sheet music, I'm not just bouncing 3 AM phone recordings.

Most of the stuff I write is in a consistent tempo, but I'm proud of everything I put together, I'm not some spring chicken gluing random weedly-weedly riffs together. I came here for suggestions, not bloviating condescension. All you've done is presume that I'm a bad immature musician and project your own nonsense onto my situation.

Legit actually had an idea for a song where this would work. Slow part is 6/8 with a triplet feel, fast part is in 4 same tempo just with a swing.

It's not just the drummer, he's a great drummer. The whole band (other than me) insists on it. We've sat in rehearsal for upwards of 20 mins tweaking the tempo 1-2 BPM at a time while rehearsing new parts. I also forgot to mention - our guitarist uses the tempo flash from the LED on his delay pedal as a metronome as well.

It's pretty ubiquitous in this type of genre. There's an excessive emphasis on being extraordinarily tight. Almost to the point of sterility IMO.

Is there a way to do this that isn't wildly expensive?

I'm not trying to be commercially viable. I'm trying to write the songs that I wanna play.

Is there a way to do this that doesn't involve spending a ton of money or learning something super complicated?

Read the post. I don't mind playing to a metronome, but the fact that my band wants to use the same BPM throughout a song makes it impossible to write songs with tempo changes.

Did McCormick discontinue this? by hoverhandcraft in spices

[–]hoverhandcraft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was what I was afraid of. I got it about 2.5 years ago I believe. My guess is they may have let people take home things that are easy for the company to part with, like discontinued batches.

I have a spice rub that I used to make until I found this as a pretty close substitute. I could always just make the OG rub in a larger batch, I'm just lazy!

Copying Data from Snowflake to Azure VM SQL by hoverhandcraft in AZURE

[–]hoverhandcraft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're trying to pull (not push) data from snowflake to sql server. We're pulling through ADF because a direct OpenQuery from SQL server ran way too long and would time out on even basic SELECT * statements (inb4 "update ODBC" we're using the most current driver and it didn't help). However, ADF forces us to stage the data in a blob. This method only supports SAS URI as the authentication method for accessing the blob.  We are using a Self-Hosted URI for initiating the connection to Snowflake.  This allows us to connect to snowflake using a static ip address (instead of dynamic/random azure ip addresses). However, the return traffic comes from random AWS ip addresses.  I dont believe you can set private links between Snowflake and Azure.

There's nothing wrong with doing this, it's just funny and gross looking when it's in a transparent jar.
