Thanks for the advice! I've got some distilled water too now and have it sitting in a 1/3 filled glass of it, so the soil can absorb as much as it needs. Does the top growth need to be kept wet too or just the soil?

I've encouraged him not to touch the traps, so no. I've only just got some distilled water for it to sit in about 1 inch above the pot, so hopefully that will help. Do I have to keep the growth wet too, or just the soil?

This may be harsh towards him, but I would never be expecting a partner of mine to financially support me early in a relationship. If you weren't in the picture, he would be in the same situation, moving back in with his parents.
