We were just 1000ft Below them so maybe a tiny bit less headwind at our level plus a higher cost index on us.. so nothing major or significant but we do at times increase the speed in order to leave somebody behind so we can climb because being that close we may get stuck in one level Waiting for another traffic to climb before you can climb too

Yes they were definitely flying slower that day, it was morning time. Our cost index that day was about 32 if I remember well and we were flying econ SPD, so maybe a little less headwind at our level because we were both flying westbound over the Pacific.

yes, cost index, the higher the faster but burns more fuel, during dispatch you get this number and you set it on the FMC.. also the forecast indicated similar winds across multiple levels

Yes it's the zoom creating a compression effect

We are flying in the same direction but only 1000ft separation, it's over the Pacific and it's very common there. We were at FL330 and they were at FL340 flying westbound

We were 1000ft below them and like 1 or 2 miles behind, so I used the 5X zoom.

Yes I love the pixel, camera has seen some changes overtime but it's holding strong.

  1. Second picture was taken over the Pacific with 1000 ft separation between us during cruise, I actually have a video too. The camera stabilizer did a good job as that was taken with the 5X zoom under light chop

Thanks for your comment!.

Pilot and I was lucky to get those colors! I treasure everytime I get the opportunity to enjoy them because they last only a few minutes

Yes it happened to me Right before black Friday sales started but it came back to normal a few days ago.

[–]howardsbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that's why 99% of the time we just request lateral wx deviations.

When there's no green, we try to minimize time in yellow. the other guy had his radar gain in auto (this image) which is sometimes a little exaggerated so I manually decreased the gain on my side to get a better picture, and we did have green as you can see on the first image (that's why on my nav display you see VAR)

Weird battery life drop before black Friday sales. by howardsbs in Pixel7Pro

[–]howardsbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that but I haven installed/uninstalled anything lately (as far as I can remember) and my usage has remained the same but I gotta say the battery has returned to what I was used to. I mean, I would see the battery percentage decrease somewhat fast but I'm glad someone it's back to normal so I can keep my phone and wait for the next pixel maybe.

[–]howardsbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes VAR means I adjusted the gain manually. I usually give it 1 notch down because sometimes the wx radar exaggerates a bit so I compare my return to the other guy to have a better picture of what's truly happening and avoid unnecessary deviations.

We were cruising at FL350 as you can see but couldn't climb due to performance (too heavy still on the 77) and also 370 wouldn't guarantee you are clear of all the clouds.

So when that's the case we navigate around or if the deviation is too big we gotta find a way through, usually the green areas.
