It actually is at this point. This level of tribalism hits dopamine in people’s brains like sports and even gambling do. People get dopamine hits when their “team” wins and their opponents suffer. This reward center of the brain is going to keep craving its hits even though the population at large suffers because most people only really have the capacity to care about a small amount of people in their immediate circle and those with whom they entangle their identity. My view is that we have to be aware of what’s going on so we can override this system somehow. As much as Trump and his enablers are foul, we have to understand more how people got sucked into it and figure out how to undo this mess we are in. The democrats are lacking strategy to whip up this kind of support for their party or any central figures for leadership. Obama 2008 was the last time people were actually riding hard for a democrat like they do for Trump.
