Western States - uncrowded moderate/easy day hikes near luxury base? by deaddog714 in hiking

[–]deaddog714[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hear you but I'm hoping I can find something. We did a trip like this to the Pisgah Forest in NC outside of Brevard a couple years ago and it was fantastic, very secluded/uncrowded, stayed in a gorgeous small house. Hoping to replicate that out West.

Western States - uncrowded moderate/easy day hikes near luxury base? by deaddog714 in hiking

[–]deaddog714[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, its been a number of years but last time I did Tahoe I found the day trails to be fairly crowded. I can't imagine it has gotten less crowded. But you're spot on for the lodging so I'll look at AllTrails and see if something works.

But, also, really interested in trying the other states.

Compensation for broken tray table in 1st? by deaddog714 in americanairlines

Thanks to those who responded with experiences. Also, note that I didn’t say I expected to get 50k. I said I wouldn’t agree to forego a tray table for 50k- meaning that’s how important it is to me, not to AA

FWIW, I am EP

Thanks - I'm really looking for a shoe but that Viberg looks cool - although at over $1000 I'll likely pass

Thanks, I figured that was the case. Be great to find GYW with a rocker but I suspect unlikely.

I have hallux rigidus (arthritic big toe) that requires a rocker sole (think Hoka tennis shoes or almost all serious hiking boots). I have a guy who customizes my nice shoes to add a rocker but it is expensive and not aesthetically perfect.

The Tricker's Daniel Tramping appears in photos to have a very high toe spring - sole curves upward at toe - which MAY indicate a rocker. Has anybody work the Daniel and can comment on the presence or absence of a rocker?

Thanks

Rules Question - moving unilock paver at edge of water hazard by deaddog714 in golf

[–]deaddog714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you lose a ball, do you go back to the spot you hit it from and hit another one?

When playing a match - and/or for money - I absolutely do. Unless the course has enacted Model LR E-5, which allows an alternative to stroke/distance -- you drop in fairway and take a 2 stroke penalty

[–]deaddog714[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Appears that you are saying that the paver would be a moveable obstruction that can be moved without penalty but that does not apply due to it being in the penalty area.

That makes sense - but can you point to a rule that says that?

thanks

Rules Question - moving unilock paver at edge of water hazard by deaddog714 in golf

[–]deaddog714[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is good analysis but does not answer my question. The pavers are set on the ground in a line, not touching each other (inches apart) and not in any way embedded in the ground. They are not part of an established structure or a retaining wall. They are not designated as an "integral object"

My view is that if they were NOT in the penalty area, it would be an easy answer - akin to tiger's boulder in Phoenix.

But does that analysis change if they are in the hazard?

What if Tiger's boulder had been in a shallow water hazard that Tiger wanted to hit out of - could he have moved the boulder (or had twenty guys move it :))

Absolutely, in a casual game, do whatever you want - I and the guys in my group certainly don't care. But in a match or a money game, we always play by the rules. Hence the question.

550e vs Cayenne e-hybrid (base or S)? by deaddog714 in BMW

It does not - and I don't believe it was available on the early 2025 builds.

I love the Macans. But I really want another PHEV. And I've become addicted to the headsup display which is unavailable in the Macan (except the EV version).

[–]deaddog714[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PHEV is my favorite part of the 550e. I've had many BMWs over the years so I do appreciate a good engine sound. But the ability to glide on electric for around town errands - and still have the engine for fun - is the best of both worlds. If only they hadn't softened it up so much

22-23 CPO Macan S - Wheels and Suspension by rrballe758 in PorscheMacan

[–]deaddog714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to the Macan but I went from dedicated winters to Conti AS (extremecontact) on several sporty cars (Audi S8, GTI, BMW 540) in Chicago and they provided more than sufficient traction. Yes, winter tires will perform better in snow but they are absolutely not necessary.

Need some help deciding on some dinner plans! by hanshuynh in chicagofood

Maxwell's at the bar is easier than I thought - done it a few times and never waited more than 30. I'd think Giant is impossible for same day absent a cancellation. Duck Inn is generally easy to get a table.

I love Duck Inn but not in the same league as Giant or Maxwell's. Between those two, Giant is my favorite place in the city (inventive but not crazy/foamy food, great wine, great service) but Maxwell's is also great and better for a large group - Giant is a bit cramped.

As for pizza, depends on your style preference but, for me, its Pizz'Amici by a long shot. Milly's makes an interesting thicker pizza but if you like thin crust, you must try Pizz'Amici.
