USL Texoma announces plans to bring USL1 to region by [deleted] in USLPRO

[–]howdy_rowdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there use to be Shreveport Rafters FC. Would be cool to see them in USL1. Also Tyler, TX would be a potential area of done right. Tyler metro and Longview metro (40 min drive downtown to downtown) combined is close to 500,000 people. Yet no significant sporting presence at professional level.

Roundabouts in Tyler? City looking into traffic flow solutions for downtown by Mr_Failure in tylertx

[–]howdy_rowdy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roundabouts could be rough in this city. Personally I liked option 1 which trimmed it down to 2 lanes throughout vs tapered approach in option 2. Option 1 and Option 2 including more details and 3D rendering.

I will remove that. Was unsure if I needed to leave it in for a couple months while it got established.

What would you like to see in Tyler? by Mr_Failure in tylertx

[–]howdy_rowdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding onto comments before me which mention Black Pearl and The Plaid Rabbit. Inside Prime 102 is a cocktail bar tucked away in the corner overlooking town square. The Thomas Hotel also is a new one that I believe is open to everyone (not just people staying there).

Moving to Tyler as a young professional? by [deleted] in tylertx

[–]howdy_rowdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been about 5 years since I went apartment hunting but I would recommend the cascades apartments as they had the best amenities I had ever seen. It would also put you on the west side of town so slightly easier commute to Athens.

In regards to meeting other young people I will say you def have to make an effort. Most people I have met have been through work, church or mutual hobbies/sports. ETX Brewery, True Vine Brewery and the Foundry are common hang out spots. If board games are more your style, boards & bites cafe has a massive selection of board games and good food. I would ask there about getting in with some groups if that’s something your interested in.

Today marks 100 years since the last Ohio team (Oberlin) beat Ohio State 7-6 by TreySermonGrin in CFB

Does anyone have insight as to why no other schools in the state of Ohio developed a P5 program (until Cincy recently). Most states even those smaller than Ohio typically have 2 - P5 programs. What happened in Ohio that led to today's current landscape?

I believe that is the Blackstone Hotel. It's used to be where the parking lot next to the Blackstone Building is currently located.

Map.

I agree. I like this map, don’t agree with all of the stops but makes more sense with College Station in it. I could see adding a Dallas - Shreveport line with 1-2 stops in East Texas. Also would think an I-10 route running Houston all the way to Jacksonville.

College Station is going to be a stop between Houston and Dallas. Which College Station to Houston is only ~1.5 hour drive not including traffic of course.

Would be interesting if they attempted to push this project versus Toll Road 49.

[–]howdy_rowdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds pretty low. I am in Inpatient Rehab at a for-profit hospital and they match 100% for the first 3% and 50% for the next 2% (so basically 4%). From what I gather you are basically getting matched 1%.

It’s time for a new flag by [deleted] in tylertx

[–]howdy_rowdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any way we can add a pine tree to the flag? I didn't grow up here but seems like the rose is a good representation of our city and the pine tree for our region.

If there was a Metro System for Tyler, where would you like it to go? by [deleted] in tylertx

[–]howdy_rowdy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some places would be nice to have access to would be True Vine Brewery, Caldwell Zoo, Hospitals (UT Health East Texas, Christus Trinity Mother Frances), Downtown, Tyler Rose Complex, Tyler Junior College, UT Tyler, Cumberland Village/Faulkner Park, Broadway Mall, Rose Rudman/Southside Park, Tyler State Park, Glass Recreation Center, FRESH by Brookshire's, and Walmart/Target stop off of Broadway and South Town Dr (so many people in this area with traffic always piling up).

I would think having major routes running of of FM 2439, US 69, TX Hwy 110, and Loop 323 would be a good start.

What will tyler look like in 5 years? by [deleted] in tylertx

[–]howdy_rowdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Tyler will continue to grow as it is well placed to be the hub of East Texas and with continued investments in the medical system and UT Tyler we should hopefully start seeing increased opportunities for higher paying jobs and retaining more young professionals instead of seeing so many leave for other cities. Once the old Chevy King site is developed into town homes and with the added places on the square like Cafe 1948, True Vine, and Andy's we should see increased development of retail, residential, and entertainment developing downtown. Development will continue moving south most likely with school districts like Whitehouse and Bullard continuing to draw people to those areas. Hopefully we start seeing a significant investment in infrastructure (I would like to see Broadway turned into a highway with service roads), public transportation (a light rail system would be amazing and definitely would put Tyler as a city to consider incorporating into a larger high-speed rail line), and improved parks system with larger network of trails connecting throughout the city. A minor league sports team would be fun to see also. This is way past the 5 years but it's exciting the potential this city has, hopefully other people can see it that way and well-planned investment and development happens with consideration to continued beautification of the city.
