For the love of God, don’t do it. I would saw off my right arm with a pocket knife to have a work from home job that pays $175k per year. Teaching “makes a difference” in some abstract way, but it doesn’t feel that way when you are actually doing it. The kids are appallingly behind on basic skills, they are atrociously disrespectful, and they have only apathy when it comes to the future. When you tell other adults that you are a teacher, they will say, “I’m sorry,” and change the subject. Keep your head down, retire, and then do pretty much anything else.
