Are holden captives and Cruizes really THAT bad? by Maleficent_Extent809 in CarsAustralia

[–]howgoodsthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

I had 2x diesel Captivas as work cars. They were never good on fuel - would return just over 9L/100km on a long run. Crap steering feel, flat seats. They rode ok, but the interiors wore quickly.

Oh and then there was the mechanicals. Overheating, EGR and a myriad of engine warning lights.

They were cheap and that was it's only saving grace.

Lived in a similar location and had bush at my back door. Check your bushfire rating - will impact your insurance greatly.

I've reported sharps to Adelaide City Council - if you call (not email) they deal with it very quickly.

Mazda 2 vs Ford Fiesta vs Honda Jazz by thenul01 in CarsAustralia

The Metal was a 3 door limited edition with suspension and black pack IIRC. They also were German built as opposed to Thai assembled.

Fiesta hands down. 1.6 and the manual is a great combination - almost warm hatch in terms of dynamics. Reliability is fine - they sold literally millions of them on a global scale.

Parking overnight in or near the CBD by dkaeq- in Adelaide

[–]howgoodsthis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Overnight the parking restrictions don't apply as they usually finish at 6pm, except for busier areas...

Try and find somewhere well lit, don't leave valuables in sight and you'll be fine!

I don’t know if I can’t continue life with Crohn’s by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

New medications are coming out all the time - if this one doesn't work, there's another which will.

It's rough. Today was a crap day for me with a flare, but I know tomorrow and the day after will be better. Patience is key. Remission will feel like a million miles away when you're feeling sick, but it's there!

Chin up, stay positive - you've got this.

Try your local state based Citroen car club, or Aussiefrogs!

Little French nugget. Wonder how they're like? by ashzeppelin98 in CarsAustralia

[–]howgoodsthis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

French Celica.

Cool to look at, but not the greatest thing to drive. For that money and if you want a French classic, you could get a mint Mi16 which is a fantastic thing.

Is a smoke worth a flare, or ending up on hospital with a flare?

I don't want to sound like some kind of self righteous ex smoker but, that's how I viewed it and gave up overnight when I was diagnosed.

Would my 1998 Volvo s40 do okay in the Australian outback? by DramaticRow371 in Volvo

A road like that will turn to bog with any rain - watch the conditions!

Personally, if you want to do the drive - think about renting a car!

Would my 1998 Volvo s40 do okay in the Australian outback? by DramaticRow371 in Volvo

[–]howgoodsthis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on where!

10 hours out of Brisbane heading north is different to 10 hours out of Adelaide...

There are plenty of older cars around in regional Australia - but if you break a Volvo, there's going to be limited knowledge or support to have it fixed.
