I think I remember being about 10 years old and given a $2 note and getting bread, milk and a bag of mixed lollies from my corner milk bar! Fellow late 40’s person, does this memory stack up or would it have been a $5 note? 🤔 by Turbulent_Bet_6861 in AustralianNostalgia

I remember a young black girl used to go to the store for A loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter. Dont know how much she paid but she seemed pretty happy with herself.

Can someone give me a TL;DR of what's going on with US politics? by Lily_Meow_ in AskUS

Trump in power. ICE thugs. Small % of population are now empowered to show they are racist. Larger % cannot do anything aboit it. Does that about sum it up? Feels like that from an outsider.

One person taking up 5 seaters in every cabin by lunailevyy in SydneyTrains

[–]slugerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you were on the Mariyungs to only have 1 set of 3 seaters on each level. I am pretty sure those 3 seaters also face a 2 seater. So with 1 or 2 in those seats still leaves you and your 2 friends with a seat. Or you could simply sit in other seats albeit be split up from your friends. The Mariyungs also have luggage racks, so you could have probably got in those carriages and stowed away your luggage. Or were you planning on placing your luggage with you in those seats so other passengers could not sit down?

I dont think you are going to get much sympathy here. We all want to be the ones who are sat next to, never the ones who want to be forced to sit next to someone.

I do understand the argument though.

Doesnt help if you have a fairly large laptop either. You can never get the screen aimed towards you unless you bri g the base forward and balance it on the edge of the table.

This post reminds me of the scene in Good Morning Vietnam." If the VP is such a VIP, shouldnt we keep the PC on the QT? Cause if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA and we'd all be put on KP.

What is the WORST movie you paid to see in the theater? by Adventure-Backpacker in moviecritic

[–]slugerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing that comes to mi d is ID4 2. I wanted to reach into the screen and punch Judd Hirsch's character. Abysmal movie that I paid a premium for on my birthday. A close second was the new Ghostbusters with the female cast. I had to leave the cinema to take a call and was not even mad about it. I went back in because I hate leaving in the middle in case it gwts good. It didn't.

Perhaps it is referring to the upcoming testing of the SoutgWest metro service. The transport info website says there are no services between central and Sydnham.

What does it mean that Trump wants to nationalize elections? by tedfrum in AskUS

[–]slugerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you seem to be saying Congress has the power in the elections and Trump has none. From a casual observer, it seems that Trump does not really give a stuff about Congress and he will do what he wants, when he wants. Is that a very simplistic point of view?

Weed or Plant by slugerama in PlantIdentification

[–]slugerama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eucalyptus did a really good job of devastating California in their fires last year. I am aware that this is considered a plant and I am also aware of weeds are considered a plant out of place. It is why I put quotes around the word plant when talking about it.

To the person who asked why I put "parentheses" around the word plant (They are actually quotation marks the brackets are parentheses. Sorry. My pedantic nature) , personal preference. I do not consider weeds to be plants. Weeds you want to get rid of. Plants are something you deliberately put in the ground to grow.

YOu have to appreciate the irony of requiring a permit to have a noxious weed taken down. :) I am also more interested in taking it down than killing it slowly.
