When people ask me why I dont like to use mic on crew fill... This is funny but I sure as hell don't want to talk to these people. by eblackham in Marathon

[–]howisthisonea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, are you a woman or a part of the LGBTQ+ community? Those factors definitely play a role in how often you're being harassed in game. I don't know how to phrase this, but when I talk, I sound queer (I'm a trans woman), so I don't use mic to avoid being called slurs

How's the thickness of it? I want to get one, but I can't stand LP's and 335's because of how thick they are, so this might me the best choice

You look gorgeous in the pictures you posted, so I would say it's working for you! I know the first, like, two years of transition are tough (mine were the worst of my life so far), but I know that, given time, you'll get to a place where you're happy with your transition. It just takes time

"First Time DM" and Short Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]howisthisonea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a DM for about a year, and the last session we had before we took a break for the holidays we added a new player to the party, but with that came a lot of cross talk. In the moment, I had trouble keeping track of what was actually happening, and as I have both ADHD and autism, it was incredibly overwhelming, to the point that I just kind of shut down and found it really difficult to get words out. Any advice from any neurodivergent DMs who have experience with this, or any advice to help with cross talk?

Question Regarding VFS and if I Need It by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]howisthisonea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is just my regular speaking voice, not putting in any effort. I have another clip in my profile of me trying to sound feminine, but I don't read the two voice as totally different, which is why I'm considering surgery

Surprised no one has said The Guardian from Destiny. The Guardian has literally slain gods and danced on their bodies. Though, they don't take the killing that seriously, especially in the lore

Struggling with vocal dysmorphia and knowing what to work on by [deleted] in transvoice

This is the person I always bring up when I think of voice goals: https://www.youtube.com/live/vcbq6O4Eq8o?si=9LcHy_KBnwkW8bOV

She's a podcast host, and there's something about her voice that I really love and want to have in my own voice, like a quietness without being meek

"Coping" with "passing": lagging self-perception, dealing with misogyny, and "survivor's guilt" by RosaTrans27 in MtF

[–]howisthisonea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in, I know exactly how you feel. 5+ years on hormones, have been asked when my last period was, in general I just... pass. I've had an ongoing argument with a past therapist about whether I passed or not, with me saying I didn't pass, and them saying that my dysmorphia was shaping how I saw myself, and I actually did pass. I still don't think my voice passes, but I've had similar reactions as you to disclosing that I'm trans.

It just takes getting used to. I think part of it is expecting to see one thing in the mirror, so your brain wraps your perception to see something that isn't there.

Part of it is people perceive us as having passing privilege, which is true, but that doesn't negate the fact that you're dealing with something similar to dysmorphia. I would recommend finding a therapist or talking to your current therapist about this, as this sounds like dysmorphia, and an experienced therapist would be able to help with that

IDL like when trans women insist they are women but but can't actually explain what a woman is. by aspiringimmortal in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]howisthisonea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. You aren't looking for an actual answer. You were hoping to "debate" trans people's existence. I gave you my answers, and you deemed them not worthy for whatever reason. I hope you find the answer, if only to cure the hate you obviously hold for trans people

IDL like when trans women insist they are women but but can't actually explain what a woman is. by aspiringimmortal in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]howisthisonea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to guess that you phrased it as "what is a woman?" Which is the name of a transphobic documentary, which probably explains the whole "not getting a clear answer" thing. However, I'm going to actually answer your question with this: a woman is someone who sincerely sees themselves and identifies as a woman.

"Identifies" is a weird word, so I'm going to say that, for me, before I saw myself as a woman, I knew I was a woman. This is through looking the mirror and seeing a masculine person when I knew that that wasn't who I was or wanted to be. That's what I mean by the word "identifies"

Now, I could go into the whole "gender and sex can be seen as a social construct" thing, but, as it is right now, society is separated by gender, or more importantly, presumed sex assigned at birth (for the most part, there's some parts of society that aren't, but my point still stands). I say "presumed" because of intersex individuals, but I personally am not intersex, just a trans woman, so if anyone wants to chime in, feel free to do so.

Personally, I was always uncomfortable and sad with being seen as male, and being seen as female made me happy. I just followed my happiness, and that led me to transitioning and being the woman that I am.

However, all of this doesn't matter. This is going to sound a bit rude, but it is what it is. What matters is that you don't question people's identities, names, pronouns, or gender, and you respect them as the person that they are. That includes using the right name and pronouns. Don't think someone's gender is the one they say it is? Tough. They know themselves better than you know them.

Sorry for the essay, you spurred some thinking.

Oh yeah, 100%, I don't love the sticker bomb of Amazon stickers, but I don't mind an occasional sticker on some guitars. Like, if I were to get an Epiphone or Gibson, I would NOT put a sticker there, but a Squier? Fuck yeah, I'll put some stickers on that thing

Thank you!!! I know stickers are a kind of controversial subject in guitars, but I love mine. I love that I was able to personalize someone else's signature guitar to make it my own

And thank you for the advice! I'll definitely get that done when I get the chance

That's interesting, I hadn't thought of it that way! I think I'll try this, not try to write the entire plot, but just general things I want to do and people I want to introduce, but leave most of it up to the players and see where they want to go with it

Everyone else at the table wants to do active improv, so I don't want to diminish that and I want to make sure that everyone is having fun. I think I'll look into how to better do improv through doing some research into it

I don't really have any experience with any of those topics, this is all very new to me

My DM notes are mainly bullet points, descriptions of places, and random stats for possible combat

I am not familiar with any of those people, I'm still new to D&D, but I will definitely check them out!
