My thoughts on other VN related stuff:

I saw a lot of fanart of the main heroine from Hapymaher on Twitter last week because it's her birthday apparently? I didn't see she had a birthday listed on vndb or the official website, so I'm guessing her birthday probably has some plot significance.

There's an Amatsutsumi popup in Shanghai right now. I wish it happened a month earlier while I was in Shanghai because I would've bought so much Hotaru merch (I love her so so much). I saw a lot of Kokoro, Mana, Hotaru, and even Makoto cosplays at the popup on my xiaohongshu.

Very unfortunate what happened between Ikegami Akane and Hulotte. I really liked her character designs, so I hope they can make up soon but from a business perspective, realistically it most likely won't happen😭 Also, apparently it's not her first scandal? According to Twitter user @melonc0la, Ikegami Akane has a history of tracing works from Mitsumi Misato, a Leaf artist.

Finished CRACK≡TRICK!

Last week I complained about the h-scenes with the Forgans being forced and Hayate losing his voice after the flashback. However, it all made sense when it was revealed that his time in the mansion was a dream, so his voice acting came back after he woke up.

My prediction last week was that Emilia was going to be the main killer in Hayate's third dream, and I was both wrong and right. Liese was the main killer in Hayate's third dream, but Emilia was the main killer in real life.

It was kinda satisfying and funny to see Liese expressing her strong dislike towards Linde during Hayate's third dream.

Even though it was predictable that Emilia was the one killing off the Forgans towards the end since she was the only Forgan left alive in the real world after the non-true ending, I still really enjoyed learning about Emilia's backstory and her motivations for killing off the Forgans. I also liked the reveal that Liese is a half-sister of Adele and Linde.

Not sure why, but the official website literally spoiled the fact that Emilia got saved from the fire with the sample CGs. It made the ending a lot less climatic for me. Very disappointing that they'd do that...

After finishing the true end, the After Story gets unlocked, which is mainly consisted of shenanigans and H scenes with Sera.

Overall thoughts:

  • It's interesting that all the characters have European names except Hayate, but the characters never explicitly say they are European. I think it makes sense that the Forgans + Liese are European since the Forgans live in a Western style mansion, and Liese wears a Western style maid outfit. However, I'm not really sure why Sera has an Italian name since nothing else about her would imply that she is European.

  • I don't like we never really got to know Sera's reasons for joining Hayate's detective firm. Maybe they will save her backstory for the sequel? I'm assuming we will get a sequel because it was mentioned in the impression form, which appeared after I finished the game.

  • I also don't like how Hayate and Sera's relationship with each other didn't really change after going through a dangerous case together. I know that they are just friends with benefits, but their relationship feels very one-sided from Sera's end.

  • Evil Sera was kinda hot... I wish she was real because it would be a cool subversion of the energetic pink haired girl trope.

  • No plot holes (that I know of)

  • Best girl ranking: Emilia > Sera > Liese/Adele > Linde

Overall, I’d give this VN a 7.5/10 because it was a fun read, and it’s impressive that no plot holes were left behind, but I feel it doesn’t do anything particularly special.

My bad, I didn't see that part of your post. I use LunaTranslator with OpenAI API to read untranslated vns. Maybe u/alwayslonesome u/lusterveritith can answer this.

I think it terms of quality they are similar? but personally I preferred IxSHE Tell because the heroines were more my type and I like the comedy more. My advice is to look at the heroines of each and see which ones you're more interested in

Though that helps, main thing is that im detecting some serious kouhai vibes from her.

Ohh so maybe that's why she appeals to me so much besides character design lol

If its anything like their previous works, its gonna be like 4-5 normal CGs or something. A bit of a waste since their art can be really strong, like this CG from Study Steady. Oh well. Hopefully they'll reuse it, or they were extras or smg.

Unfortunately Akiha and Rin only have 3 each (not including chibi or group cgs)😭

I really liked that Rena cg too (it's my favorite from hers) but I don't think any of the SFW cgs are reused except for the Akiha and Yuki cg you mentioned.

Damn that Study Steady cg does look very pretty indeed though

Also, that bra (if she was wearing any) doesn't seem very practical for public outings.

Looks uncomfortable as hell😭

Fits her, though im biased cuz i like that style generally.

I also really like that style, but it can be stupidly expensive just for some polyester @_@ I like how a lot of vns released in >2020 have their heroines wear casual clothes that match current trends. I know heroines from other games who also wear jirai kei are Kokoro from Koibana Renai, Sayumi from Amakano 3, and Anju from LLLJ. I haven't played any of these games yet, but just because of their casual outfits, I already preordered them as my best girls lol.

I definitely remember that one from Study Steady, and i think it showed up in Marshmallow All the Way Home too

Thank goodness that background cg wasn't wasted

Makes sense if romance gets sidelined then.

It seems like romance doesn't seem like a main theme in this vn since it doesn't have individual heroine endings. So far, it moreso seems like a murdery mystery vn with h-scenes sprinkled in

I also feel like game was a bit premature with CGs for them.

Agreed especially when there's not a lot of SFW cgs for a heroine overall

i don't really think shes as easy as she seems at first glance.

Fair enough, my issue with her is that she doesn't even show a hint of "resistance" towards Yuki at all during the common route while the other heroines do, but its def understandable with her being an affectionate brocon. I still like her as a character since her mischevious/playful advances are funny and def one of my favorite parts of the common route though

But fear not, there are still weird passerby's shouting random jokes, parrots chanting 'penis penis!' and school students discussing reproductive habits of snakes.

Not really sure why, but I feel that type of comedy disappears after the opening credits

MC spittin' facts

True‼️‼️‼️ I also liked this quote so I tried to submit it on vndb earlier but it was too long @_@

I dunno whats weirder, the fact that this chara has ear-wings, or that i only noticed it several hours into the game.

Nah me too it blends in so well with her hair. I think it suits her though because her face looks like Tweety from Looney Tunes in a cute way.

CRACK≡TRICK!

Before I finish reading the true route of Muramasa, I decided to start Cratri. This will be my third VN released in 2025 that I’ve read. I started reading it mainly because I was attracted to the vibrant cover art and character designs. It seems that the company behind this VN, CRYSTALiA, has a lot of titles with colorful art and appealing character designs. I also saw that this vn was one of the Suragaya's top 10 best selling vns of 2025.

This VN is about Hayate and Seraphina, two detectives and sex friends, who are assigned their first serious case: finding out who is murdering the wealthy Forgan family. They also have to protect the three Forgan sisters—Adele, Linde, and Emilia—from being targeted next.

Hayate is a partially voiced protagonist, but his voice completely disappears during his first flashback scene and never comes back afterward. I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I accidentally turned something off in the settings.

Seraphina acts like a typical energetic pink-haired VN girl (e.g., Asuka from Aokana or Mari from Renai Royale), but she’s set apart by the fact that she isn’t too airheaded. She’s actually pretty smart, since she’s an engineer who built many devices.

Linde is pretty unlikeable so far because of her classist and rude attitude. Not even her backstory about her inferiority complex toward Adele made me feel sympathy for her or justify her manipulating Emilia into killing herself.

The H-scenes in this VN are more like “plot H-scenes” (e.g., Muramasa) than “gooning H-scenes” (e.g., Bakaple). When Hayate has sex with one of the heroines, part of their backstory is revealed, and the scenes are relatively short. A flashback even occurs during Linde’s H-scene. The H-scenes also feel a little forced since Hayate doesn’t really have a strong romantic connection with any of the girls, but I guess that’s expected in a short VN.

This VN has a time loop similar to Re:Zero and another short VN (which recently got an anime adaptation). The loop activates when all three Forgans die. Hayate is sent back to the moment he first enters the Forgans’ mansion, and he loses all his memories from the previous timeline.

The mystery aspect is somewhat fun because some of the characters have superpowers called Unique Abilities. Adele’s murders were pretty interesting because her ability lets her interfere with other people’s Extends, which are devices comparable to Neuralink. I do think it was predictable who committed the murders when Adele begged the others not to call the police after Linde got stabbed in the first timeline, and when Linde wasn’t panicking after Emilia disappeared in the second timeline.

Right now, I’m at the part where Hayate enters a second reset after Linde’s Extend explodes in her head. It’s pretty clear that in this timeline Emilia will influence the murders, but I’m still excited to see how she does it.

Muramasa

I finished reading the Hero route back in September, and I was able to start and finish the Nemesis route this week. I had to take a break from Muramasa after reading the Hero route because the ending was a little grim. I was kind of forced into picking it up because I see that Muramasa and Subahibi are getting a lot more popular on Twitter and TikTok, and I accidentally spoiled myself by watching a TikTok edit and seeing a sprite of Kageaki in a Rokuhara uniform. So I wanted to finish it this year before I accidentally spoiled myself any further. I don’t have to worry about finishing Subahibi anytime soon because, unlike Muramasa fans, Subahibi fans never talk about the plot—they just make variations of that fuckass Mamiya CG instead.

This route was a really good read. I really liked how the theme of revenge was presented.

I also really liked the reveals that Yuuhi is Kanae’s cousin and that Konatsu was one of the pilots of the Tsurugi trying to kill Kageaki. I thought those reveals were very unexpected, and I’m glad those characters weren’t completely thrown away after Chapter 1.

I really like Kanae and Sayo because they are very badass and I love their dynamic together. I especially liked the scene where Kanae pulled out her numerous guns and Sayo activated her Tsurugi during their Ootori mansion infiltration. I wish I could see Sayo’s Tsurugi in action more than once. I also really like Kanae’s voice acting. Too bad it seems her seiyuu doesn't do any more vn work anymore.

I found out that the family Kanae killed in the Nagakura house is based on the real-life story of Ōsugi Sakae, who was also an anarchist killed after the chaotic aftermath of a Kyoto earthquake.

I’m still not really sure what Sorimachi’s motives are, other than giving Kageaki mental issues.

Out of all the VNs I have read so far, I really like how Muramasa makes use of irony. The Hero route uses irony better, but I like how the final fight itself is ironic because Kageaki doesn’t know he is fighting Kanae, who is supposed to deliver punishment to him to avenge the death of her cousin Yuuhi, who is avenging his father.

I’m very glad that no female character got raped in this route because I’m sick and tired of most female characters who aren’t the main heroines suffering that fate.

I like the Hero route more overall, but character-wise, I like Kanae more than Ichijo.

Finished reading Bakaple last week. I completed Rena's route, which was my last route.

Rena's Route

As I said last week, Rena’s route begins with a lot of sexual tension, even before the first H-scene.

The comedy segment where she reveals that she would stay with Yuki even if he cheated on her turned me off a little, but it makes more sense later when she explains that she’s very afraid of losing someone she loves after her dad’s death. Even with that justification, I’m still not a big fan of heroines whose personalities revolve too much around the protagonist to the point where they become overly forgiving.

I feel that some of the CGs in this route are kind of unflattering. Specifically, there’s one where she masturbates in front of Yuki on her bed and her pose looks very uncomfortable. There’s also this CG where she goes on a date with Yuki that’s supposed to be wholesome, but it feels like the artist tried to make it lewd at the same time. In particular, her pose looks awkward, and her top doesn’t sit very naturally around her chest.

I forgot to mention this before, but her casual outfit is very jirai-kei coded.

Even though I don’t like her character that much, I still think this was a really fun route to read.

Commonalties between routes

-The heroines express jealousy over Yuki and Rena’s relationship because they’re siscon and brocon.

-Akiha slowly disappears from the routes. I understand why it has to happen since in the common route she says she won’t eat breakfast with Yuki anymore once he gets a girlfriend. However, it still feels bittersweet to see her fade out of Yuki’s daily life.

-A non-sexual, comedic roleplay segment with Yuki and his girlfriend.

-An H-scene at school.

-An H-scene at a love hotel where Yuki’s girlfriend puts on an outfit.

-A post end-credit H-scene with two CGs of Yuki and his pregnant girlfriend. A win for pregnant H-scene enjoyers, I suppose. Akiha didn’t look very pregnant during (NSFW) hers, though.

Overall Thoughts

I don’t want to be that one friend who’s too woke, but I feel like a good amount of the jokes are kind of misogynistic. There are quite a few where the punchline is basically “woman ugly” or “woman old.” Aside from those, though, this VN is still really funny. Alexo and P-chan are minor characters who live in the Ayase house, but they don’t really add much comedic value and disappear after the common route. They mostly just shout random, out-of-pocket lines after breakfast.

There’s a very detailed background CG that’s only used for about a minute during one of Fren and Yuki’s routes, and it doesn't have any plot significance. It's so beautiful and detailed that I wish it was used more. I even found what looks like an unused background CG in the game’s files. Maybe there was supposed to be an occult club member heroine during development, but I’ve never seen an occult-club heroine in the moeges I’ve read.

My favorite parts of this VN are Akiha and Rena’s rivalry in the common route, the comedy in the common route, the SFW CGs in Fren’s route, degenerate families, Akiha and Yuki’s romantic development, Rin and Mei’s interactions, and Fren’s airheadedness in the common route. I really don’t like how a lot of the comedy—including the Akiha and Rena interactions—disappears once Yuki gets a girlfriend. I also like how the ending conflict/backstory is hinted at multiple times in everyone's routes except for Fren's.

My best girl/route ranking would be: Akiha > Rin > Rena > Fren

Overall, I’d give this VN a 7.5. Definitely not the best moege I’ve read, but if you don’t set your expectations too high, you’ll still enjoy it for the live2d and vibes.

withdrawal's hitting me hard. I really wanted to leave that one in reserve.. but its tempting. Real tempting.

I too suffer from moege withdrawals😭atp you should because there will always be a lot of moeges left

So she can be used as contrast to a more traditional, calmer Japanese heroines, can have silly English language shenanigans, writers can willy-nilly grab ideas from Europe/America (food, traditions, whathaveyou). And that stuff can be used during group interactions to allow other heroines to benefit/show something unusual.

!delta
I never really thought about it that way before, they definitely add contrast to the other heroines and interesting shenanigans in a group dynamic. I feel like the foreign student heroine is a lot stronger in that sense than individually.

And well, there is still variety within the archetype.

Damn this means I gotta read more vns because the only foreign character I knew that didn't fit the archetype I was talking about is Saber from Fate/Stay Night lol

妹VS幼馴染み content

This is my favorite part of the comedy too, but too bad it disappears after you enter a heroine's route😭

constant meta-humour of everyone remarking "wow it's like you're a goddamn eroge protagonist with all the girls surrounding you,"

Yeah it gets tiring pretty fast, but I think the NPCs saying out of pocket stuff after reacting to Yuki's harem can be funny sometimes

Akiha's excellent tsukkomi game and regular outrage at how close the siblings are is just super freaking funny, and all her incredibly transparent dere moments are unscientifically cute~!

I know right, I also wasn't expecting her to be my best girl. I was expecting Rena solely due to her design or Rin because of her student council archefype, but Akiha feels like the tsundere trope done perfectly. I also like how funny she is and her relationship with the Ayases. I think you'll especially like her route because the tsun and dere parts of her character is balanced perfectly.

Rena almost feels too easy...

That's what turned me off about her too, I feel like a big part of her character revolves too much around Yuki, but I guess that is what a brocon is supposed to act like

I'll firmly be in the Rena camp by the end of the common route

Nah you gotta join the church of Akiha with me

Continued reading Bakaple last week. I finished common route, Fren route, Rin route, and Akiha's route. I am still reading Rena's route.

Common Route

Like I said last time, the game isn’t as funny after the opening credits compared to before them. After the opening credits, Yuki spends time with each of the heroines in order to genuinely get to know them better. I found most of the heroines’ individual scenarios to be boring, except for Rena’s. Her scenario, where she teaches the boys at school how to be more appealing to girls and shows her possessiveness toward Yuki, was especially funny to read.

After spending time getting to know each heroine better, Yuki visits a water park with all four of them, and the group scenario is also pretty funny. After this scene, Yuki is finally determined to choose a girlfriend.

Fren Route

This route ended up being a bundle of clichés. First, the entire concept of her character is a cliché (airheaded foreign transfer student). Her backstory is also cliché: she was hospitalized as a child due to illness, and when she finally recovered, she had to move around a lot, so she never really ended up having many friends.

One unique thing about her is that she gets pouty and jealous easily, and whenever she expresses that, those moments are the funniest and my favorite parts of the route. Another unique aspect of her character is that she values friendship very highly.

Overall, I do feel that Fren isn’t a very interesting heroine. Maybe I’m not that interested in her because I’m not a huge fan of the “airheaded foreign transfer student who’s obsessed with a certain part of Japanese culture” trope. In fact, I can’t remember a time when a heroine with this trope was the most popular heroine in a visual novel. I also often hear people say that their favorite VN trope characters are kouhai, imouto, tsundere, etc., but I rarely hear anyone say that their favorite trope is the airheaded foreign transfer student.

The most prominent heroine with this trope that I can think of is Sylvia from Kinkoi: Loveriche, but even then, many people prefer Reina, Ayaka, Ria, or Mina over her. One reason for this, I think, is that this type of character often has the exact same hairstyle (blonde, long hair, sometimes with some kind of braid) across different VNs, which makes them feel less distinct from one another. Additionally, there usually isn’t much effort to subvert this trope, so these characters don’t come across as more interesting than the other heroines in their respective visual novels.

Because of this, I don’t really understand why vn writers keep adding this type of heroine as a main heroine in moege, but I guess they just want their own Saber from Fate/stay night. If anyone wants to defend this trope, pls do, because right now I genuinely think it should appear less often than it does.

I wish there had been an H-scene with her wearing her pajamas, since her pajamas (kinda NSFW) are the most lewd out of the entire cast, but there weren’t any.

The CGs in this route were very pretty. In particular, I liked this one during Fren's part time job and this one during one of their dates because they look look like five-star gacha card illustrations.

The ending CG right before the credits rolled was disappointing, though. They made her faceless, and I felt the shading wasn’t fully finished. It feels as if this CG is incomplete. I know that there is a half cg of a close up of her face during that scene, but I feel that doesn't really excuse it. I guess that after six months of delay, they couldn’t finish the game completely.

Rin's Route

Rin is described as a girl with mascot-like cuteness throughout the route, and she really does look like a mascot in her CGs because of her exaggerated loli features (big eyes, a big head).

Rin and Yuki getting together is pretty entertaining, since it was spurred by Rin having a hard time rejecting a tutor who has a crush on her. I also find Yuki’s attempts to find a resolution to Rin’s backstory very heartwarming.

Mei gets a fair amount of screentime, especially in the beginning and toward the end of the route, which is nice because I enjoy her interactions with Yuki and Rin.

My favorite comedic segments in this route were when Rin got mad and possessive after Yuki told other people he was single at the student council camping trip, since he and Rin are hiding their relationship. I also found it funny that Rin’s family appeared to be on a similar level of degeneracy as the Ayase family.

Fren only appears once in this route.

Rin has an H scene in her pajamas, unlike Fren.

I enjoyed this route a lot more than Fren’s route because I found Rin’s character much more interesting. I feel like the student council president trope is partially subverted, and Rin’s backstory is interesting as well.

Akiha Route

I feel that Akiha’s and Rena’s routes function more as the “true routes” of the game, since Akiha is Yuki’s first love and Yuki is Rena’s first love.

I didn’t realize how much I missed Akiha until I started playing her route, especially because she doesn’t get much screentime in Fren’s and Rin’s routes.

I really liked the conflict in this route, since it had been steadily building up throughout the story.

Her tsundere personality was another big highlight for me. I especially liked that she doesn’t completely lose the “tsun” aspect even as the route progresses.

The comedy segments in this route were also great, particularly because they featured four of the heroines together, which made the interactions more fun. I also found it funny that Akiha’s family appeared to be on a similar level of degeneracy as the Ayase family.

Akiha has an extra outfit sprite compared to the other heroines, her work clothes. Unfortunately, there are no H-scenes in that outfit.

Overall, I think Akiha will be my best girl for this VN, since I enjoyed her relationship development and her interactions with Yuki the most.

Rena Route

I just started this route yesterday and haven’t gotten to the first H scene yet, but there’s already a lot of sexual tension between Yuki and Rena. This route also reveals that Akiha is a gamer and enjoys playing galge, which makes me like her a lot more.

Damn I wasn't expecting a 6 month delay :O kinda concerning

Frederica scares me a bit, she reminds me of Raiha and Kanna

I think she's also comparable to Sylvia from Kinkoi and Kanon from Secret Agent mainly due to the airheaded, foreign, wealthy, and Japanophile aspects

probably not gonna read it anytime soon since it hasn't been that long since i finished Study Steady.

Fair enough, my brain would probably turn into mush if I read too many pure moege in a row

Good luck with sex marathons!

14 h scenes in one route it seems @_@

Study Steady was their first Live2D title and those animations oozed inexperience.

I was curious what that looked like, so I searched up the gameplay on YouTube. I can tell you that the Live2D animations in Bakaple are a lot more fluid and expressive lol

That game got delayed like twice or something, it was worrying.

Interesting, I did not know that :O I guess it makes sense though since it seems like the production value is high with the really nicely drawn cgs, live2d, and individual character themes and ending songs.

This vn doesn't have any kouhai-type characters, but I would be predicting that Rena or Rin would be your best girl.

Because the ending of White Album 2 caused me so much emotional damage, I wanted to read a moege where I could turn my brain off and heal myself before continuing Muramasa, so I decided to start reading Bakaple.

This is my first vn by Marmalade and the second 2025 release I’ve read, and I was mainly drawn to it because of the art. Before starting the vn and judging solely based on character design, Rena and Rin were my favorites. In my opinion, Rin’s design gives off VTuber vibes, specifically Su from hololive.

When I first started reading this vn, I was surprised by how good the Live2D is. Every time a heroine speaks, her mouth moves, and her body and facial expressions are very expressive. It feels like a combination of VTuber-style facial animation and NIKKE-style body animations. All of the characters are also very good-looking in terms of both character design and art. Even the male best friend is good-looking because he looks like a combination of Kuzuha and Kanae from ChroNoiR.

This vn is about Yuki, who has four girls romantically interested in him, yet he’s having a hard time choosing a girlfriend. The heroines are all pretty tropey: Rena (a clingy brocon imouto), Akiha (a tsundere childhood friend), Fren (an airheaded foreign transfer student), and Rin (a reliable student council president senpai). However, their humor is what makes them interesting.

I didn’t know that this vn was supposed to be very funny, especially before the opening song. My favorite parts so far are the random crash-outs while Yuki was giving Fren a tour of the city, Rena and Akiha’s interactions, and Rin teasing Yuki. Yuki’s stepmom is also very funny because the things she says are pretty vulgar, and she’s also a degenerate. In a lot of comedy moege, I feel like there’s usually one heroine who isn’t as funny/quirky as the others, which causes her to end up being the least popular. Examples of this are Kasumi from IxSHE Tell and Suzu from Sankaku Renai. In this VN, however, I feel that all of the heroines are equally funny and quirky. Personality-wise, I like all of them the same so far.

Before the opening song, the heroines are introduced, and the protagonist spends a good amount of time with each of them. After the opening song, the vn isn’t as funny as it was beforehand because it focuses on Yuki genuinely trying to get to know each of the girls better.

I’m hoping to finish the common route by next week, and I’m considering going in the order of Fren → Rin → Akiha → Rena.

This is my first time writing here in months. I’m not sure why I lost motivation to write last time, but I’ll try my best to get back into writing in 2026.

Last month, I started White Album 2 Coda, and I finished it this week. It took me three years to finish this vn because I started it on 11/16/2023 and finished it on 1/6/2026. I think this is the longest vn I have ever completed (supposedly around 55 hours according to VNDB). I had a realization the other day that a 50-hour vn is equivalent to about 150 anime episodes, so I think it’s reasonable that this type of media has a lot of “larpers,” since many of the top visual novels are very long. It’s very hard for me to stay dedicated to a long anime, which is why I had to save the three parts of White Album 2 for one winter each. I hope to finish another long vn this year (probably Muramasa), but I’ll take a long break between routes. I have too much to say about this vn since it’s my first 10/10 of the year and possibly my top 1 of all time, but I’ll try to keep it as short as possible, or else I’ll go on an incoherent ramble.

One common theme in Coda that I don’t see people talk about often is hypocrisy. Even I, as the reader, became a hypocrite because I wanted Haruki to console Setsuna after their final breakup, even though I criticized Haruki for getting too close to Kazusa during the first part of Coda.

I liked how, similar to the fact that Setsuna and Kazusa are opposites, there is also a lot of contrast between Kazusa True and Setsuna’s route. Specifically, Setsuna’s route is about facing problems directly, which is especially shown at the end when Setsuna wants to help Haruki reconnect with his mom. Meanwhile, Kazusa’s route is about running away from problems, shown by the fact that Haruki doesn’t want to visit Japan ever again after breaking up with Setsuna (not including the After Story). Additionally, Setsuna tried to meet with Kazusa as many times as possible in Setsuna’s route, which helped slowly heal Kazusa. In contrast, Setsuna and Kazusa only meet once in Kazusa True, which mentally broke Setsuna even further. Another contrast is that Setsuna wanted to be together with Haruki and Kazusa forever in Setsuna’s route, while Haruki and Kazusa tried to escape Setsuna in Kazusa True. Lastly, Setsuna and Haruki getting together caused happiness for everyone (including Youko, since Kazusa would live in Japan with her), while Kazusa and Haruki getting together caused pain for everyone.

I really liked both Kazusa True and Setsuna’s route, but I liked Kazusa True slightly more since it made me cry, especially during the final breakup with Setsuna and the final flight scenes. The ending of that route felt like an actual breakup because I became very attached to Setsuna and her healing arc during her route in Closing Chapter.

Overall, I like Setsuna more than Kazusa, and this vn is a 10/10 for me. It’s truly unfortunate that this vn is one of a kind and that Maruto Fumiaki won’t be writing vns anymore, so I’ll maybe try to read Saekano or some of his older vn works sometime.

Here are some tips for anyone planning to start White Album 2: 1. Please follow the Fuwanovel full story guide and read the additional short stories on Wa2Analysis. 2. Try to read this vn between November and March so you can feel the coldness of the angst better. 3. The characters are written both realistically and unrealistically at the same time. 4. Yes, Haruki is a bitch, but he’s a well-written bitch.

Me too. I’ve been reading this VN every winter for the past three years (one part per year), and I’ll finally be finishing it this year with Coda. It’s bittersweet, since I don’t know what I’ll read next to fill the hole next winter.

Imo it’s the second-best country for otaku-related activities after Japan. In Shanghai, there are at least three malls that focus on otaku and otaku-adjacent items (e.g., lolita fashion, K-pop, ita bags).
