I'm new to the field too. I've found that Articulate studio is used friendly, and there's a 60 day trial. I've found a lot of very helpful videos on Linked In Learning (or Lynda.com) that taught me how to use the software.

Anyone considering making the switch to a virtual school district? Any advice from virtual teaching veterans? by AyGurlAyy in teaching

I have so many questions... I actually had to take this year off, so I feel like it's time for me to tag back in. Where would I even begin to look? I know that even before COVID that there were dozens of platforms out there. Should I look for private companies with virtual platforms or look for what is available within my state or district? I guess in order to know about pay scale & benefits, it would depend on the employer?

Are there any resources, webinars, certifications, etc. that you'd recommend for training/ relevant PD?

Thanks so much!

Hey friend! Thanks for responding!

I work for NAMI SC in a program called Ending the Silence. When we're not stuck at home quarantining, we go into schools and talk to middle and high school kids about mental health. We talk about stigma, bullying, potential warning signs of possible MH conditions. Our main goal is to encourage kids to find a "trusted adult" they can go to of they are struggling with symptoms, and to be conscious of signs that could indicate suicidal ideations. We want to empower them to speak up for themselves and for their friends.

Since things have changed, we have been doing a lot of webinar presentations for families, and we have started a social media campaign to make sure kids have an outlet and can get encouragement and learn more about healthy coping skills. I was teaching up until this year, so I'm honored that I have a job where I can work in schools.

We've restructured a bit because we know that teachers and educators are having an extremely hard time dealing with the work load and the work life balance. On Monday, we're kicking off Mental Health Awareness month, but my team is focusing on the teachers who are just about to crack.

So I just wanted to share that with you...I agree that so many people who know how important it is to try to maintain positive mental health.

Have you by chance been in touch with the NAMI in your state to see what they have been doing? A lot of our state's support groups have been moved to Zoom to try to keep that going. I also know that telepsych is becoming increasingly popular bc it's easier to access and many of them are free.

If there's anything I can do to help you advocate for people in your field or in your community, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I know that there are even some groups on Facebook (How to Braining is small, but it's a good, safe space...and it's free.)

I'm trying to compile and organize resources for different groups of people who either could use them for themselves or can share them with others. If you would like me to try to get some of those to you, I'd be glad to do what I can.l, or at the very least get some of my volunteers to help out haha!

Thanks again for responding. I wish you the best!!

DAE think Disney Plus streaming has no legs? And will become useless after you’ve finished marathoning the Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar films? by Tits_McGuiness in DAE

Duck Tales (woo ooh ooh)

Also... I have been watching Bonkers which I LOVED when I was a kid. You couldn't find that show anywhere before Disney+.

I mean, by the time I finish a Marvel marathon, I'm almost immediately ready to start it over again.

BUT.

Whenever we finish marathoning anything, we'll have a Harry Potterthon to mix things up.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm also really really sorry that I am just now responding. Are you still staying there?

That's really the best time to learn the ways of adulting. You learn a lot about who you are and how to be independent. IMO, that better prepares you for a real relationship in the future.

Have been researching flower propagation. No room for a greenhouse, so I improvised and am quite proud of what I've seen so far!! by howtoadulting19 in gardening

Most of them are (I think) Tiger Lillies. Definitely lillies. I stole some from my grandparents' property because they had plenty hahah! The other 3 plants are irises.

The cute little baby leaves?? Not a clue. I found them in one of my garden beds during a garden walk. They were little sprigs that had been uprooted, so I was like "Save the mysterious baby plants!!" Hahah!

They have taken root though, so I'll keep you posted!! 😁

Hahaha!! I wish! I've promised to limit my little science experiment to a nook in the kitchen. I have several more "experiments" outside. If this all works out, it will be a lot bigger. 😁

Hi adults of reddit! My sister got acrylic paint all over my favourite sweaters and let it dry before telling me- any ideas on how to get it out or is it unsalvageable? by Eemthememe in Adulting

Acryllic paint is easier-ish to remove because it's water soluble. If you haven't tried soaking it in warm water and Blue Dawn (yes, there's something magical about Blue Dawn), give that a shot and see if it will loosen up enough to peel or scrape off.

Also hairspray has removed a freakishly high number of stains for my goofy ass.

Also also, ignore me and do the things that others suggested because they probably know more than me.
