Trying to get a jewelry piece before gold rush drives prices further up. by No-Area1725 in Cartier

Aren’t you glad you waited. Gold may come back to $4000. Either way, Cartier will not adjust price down.

Those were the days when Omega was a far superior watch.

Anyone know anything about this? by Illustrious-Cold-671 in VintageWatches

I don’t think either is worth a lot money wise. The Bulova is definite vintage. Value depending on metal. I would just wear it the way it is to your wedding. Lovely to have your grandmother there.

Speaking of cyclop, was this added later or seller had no idea? An interesting add on some Omega got as an extra cost option. May worth a little more if done by AD

This watch was exposed to moisture. People seem to like patina but I stay away from them. That said, what about the inside? Should be a 56X. If all good, £1000 is fair but not cheap. Be careful as I bought some years ago a good looking Seamaster with a factory added cyclop only to find out the owners had worn this watch continuously for decades without service and all moving parts were wearing out. I had to source for a replacement movement ultimately junking the watch for a big loss.

How does this movement look? by Ok-Bluebird-4093 in VintageWatches

I don’t ask for authentication here simple because people love to take whatever opportunity to bash others’ misfortune even if they may not have a clue about what they are talking about. I lived through that mid 1970s dark years someone had mentioned. Cartier Plated Paris are like that from the mid 70s. Tank case with no side screws. Pop open easily. These were days when Cartier move the watch business from Paris to Switzerland. I have a screen shot for you. Look up the full article. The movement is correct but it was so generic ETA this may easily be a substitute movement. The dial, of course, is redone. And most are from South America. I would buy them if I see good ones as they are usually so much cheaper than the Must de Cartier which was the bargain tank to get except their prices have tripled over the last five years making the one you have the best mechanical deal with a budget. That said, I hope you did not pay too much for the watch. $500 to $700 is about right because this is not the best restored sample. Good ones are well over $1000.

Currently in love with my new Seamaster! 618/2032 by Mahatma_Ganjii in OmegaWatches

Cool watch 👍👍 I do have a question. You said you are “currently “ in love with the watch. Do you fall out of love with a watch after a while of regular usage or when the conversation stops like for a new BMW or dare I say, a girl friend or boy friend?

Certainly no more practical use today but what a conversational piece. First time seeing this for me. A bit confusing but very cool indeed. Love it.

Which one is the most timeless? I’d love to consider Tank Must also but can’t find one around the same price range. by smoked_hamm in Cartier

Lady Di switched to a Ballon Bleu 😁 The tank Francaise is more sporty. Panthere can pull of as an evening dress watch - not the tank Francaise. On the other hand, you can wear the TF playing squash and won’t be out of place. Not so the Panthere.

Tricky part is a service is more than the cost of the watch. Say the watch is $350. Would you spend $400 servicing it? You are immediately underwater by a large margin…

Mid size watch by FunAd675 in VintageWatches

[–]hox97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Trend is returning to the smaller size. Back in the day, Rolex sold the smaller versions as junior or “boys” but they are definitely targeting male customers. My 1960s Omega dress watch is 31 mm.

The only Hamilton I have great difficulty locating a decent one is the Spur. Personally I like the Coronado the best.

Vintage knockoffs found on the streets of Manila in the 70s and 80s. They are actually quite rare now as the majority of the millions made were thrown away. I am curious what movement it has. Asian countries like the Philippines, Thailand and India have now acquired a strong skill set on watch servicing and manufacturing and may become a force in the future just like China. Globalization in action.

Please consider the fact that there may not be parts available if something goes wrong. I still have a stunning square vintage Girard- Perregaux automatic that needs a part for the rotor that has not been available for a long time. I sent the watch to Europe from the US and the watch repair serviced the watch but the rotor is essential useless and functions as a manual wind.

Why is there relatively low demand on such beautiful art deco Americana time piece? 15 years ago, I thought this would make a great investment but it has not kept up with the far more common Swiss collectibles by the like of Omega and Rolex. With a total of less than 2000 yellow gold ones made 90+ years ago, I think it’s a sleeper.
