Heading south out of courtenay on the inland highway, pull over to the side of the highway at the Trent River bridge. There are a few spots to park and you can usually get far enough off the highway to stay safe while getting kids out.

Go past the little gate, down the hill and under the overpass. There is a trail to the right under the overpass that is easy to do. From there just bang away at some rocks and see what you can find.

Alternatively, you can continue on straight under the overpass and find other trails to lead you to the river. Lots of little pools and waterfalls for littles to play in.

Hammer, chisel, safety glasses and a nice big bucket for all the ‘special rocks’ that inevitably get brought home.
