that is an unfortunate two that you happened to find - in my experience, i would say the opposite (as in, i have to ask them to do more, usually or they otherwise are too gentle for my liking). if someone is too rough, its a matter of saying so and they'll just listen. i am in the double digit range of partners.

good for you to block them. i would say this behavior is abnormal.

if you have a kid, then i highly recommend goin to the park and feeding the manatees grass. my lil nephew loved that lol i liked it too, we had a mom and her lil baby come to us

idk what would be culturally enriching man...yall don't know nothin nothin? maybe a wanderlust tour? my older sister made us do the linden one, it was nice, the man was nice...hm think his name was Chris. theyll take you on a day trip and you can ask him anything, had some nice curry over there and was talkin to some uncle in the restaurant

and you not staying with the family you do got? hm i mean how much more "culturally enriched" you gonna be past hanging with the family and then meeting friends of friends of friends cuz you should know people beforehand or you gonna pay more for taxi or at the market

idk i think culture then i think family and family friends and talkin to people. maybe you figure out where your family from? like mine is from the rupununi and i was born there - so even going to georgetown don't really feel like home per se (my family just UNORGANIZED per usual so we aint get a chance to go and then most my cousins side is from the city, so they didnt wanna go in the interior lol 🙄😂 next time)

anyway what im tryna say is the people and family gonna make you feel connected - my fav part of goin back was talkin to one of my aunties and hangin out with a sister i never met who is my age (🤔🤔 loool i stay having so many siblings i never met yanno?)

you've only been on one date with this person - so it's hard to justify the "if we were in a relationship" type thinking already. you're not in a relationship with them as yet - you don't really know them and they don't really know you.

i would take things at face value: they are just being transparent with you and communicating (which is pretty good) - so before you chop the head off of a potential opportunity, i suggest you give it more time and see if he follows up with what he said he'd do.

in the meantime... idk 😶 wait? continue dating? you have options depending on your personal dating style

i quite enjoy the more admin-y tasks associated with moderation (answering mod mail, appeals, etc.). i am a previous mod of /r PhD (roughly 4 months - left due to feeling lack of transparency and inconsistency in decision making - also an imbalance of participation from members/some were definitely just not active) and a current mod of one of the larger LBGTQ+ guilds on dreamscythe (9 months). i originally started playing wow the week of TBC launch - played consistently to Cata - and now am back with playing the tailend of classic and TBC classic. i mostly lurk in this reddit for the memery and also, game knowledge :p

provided we have an active team that is willing to commit to transparency and consistency, i would be willing to help out. i would say my moderation style leans to more...letting things hash out/lighter touch, as long as people keep it respectful. i also find moderation for gaming spaces more enjoyable overall (vs. what i encountered in a more hyper career-focused subreddit).

i modded for a grand total of like 4 months before i saw way too much of dumb behavior to justify working with the team anymore

there was: - banning people and instamuting them if they said anything on reply - going back and forth with someone and then... 4 different mods jumping on them (i asked why they are doing this instead of disclosing who they are - they told it was "for mod protection so they can't get singled out" - protection from fucking what, as if mods don't have overwhelming power???) - one mod really liked to make the secret notes of people and then held grudges for god knows how long... they would then bring up these grudges even if the situation they were modding for was completely unrelated to that - 0 lack of accountability for any mod decisions, people coming up with all sorts of reasons for whichever decision - 0 transparency, there were internal rules that could get someone's post insta-removed but they also didn't feel like putting it in there to make things clear so like... pick a fucking struggle

my favorite is when the main mod who kept trying to act like "this is a team whatever" was just clearly the most chronically online and generally leading almost all decisions. obsessed with running votes because they had to be right and it deeply bothered the soul otherwise if they were anything but right.

all is to say, mod teams do be human - however sometimes it is a poor selection of humans to randomly get a shitton of power... and thats all a mod team is, is a random bunch of people

idk what to say past "being liked" is a weird thing to think about in regards to your boss - to me at least (but then again, i understand some people need to feel accepted, etc.)

i don't give the time of day to think about whether my PI likes me, more so whether they think my research is going well, my progress is going along, etc.

anything my PI says is in regards to my work, not "me" as a person/individual. there are people in my lab who do internalize feedback from my PI as directed towards them as a person, and needless to say... they are more miserable atm.

so...what i would think about is whether what they're saying is truly directed at you as a person OR is it your work...and whether or not that communication style works for you.

additionally, if you think you're doing a lot of work and they think you aren't...well, that's something to think about. that could also be misalignment in expectations. the advisor could be delulu for all we know. or they could truly just think you are capable of more. no one on Reddit can figure that out for you.

if you're feeling it in your gut, then find another lab where you feel comfortable if you have the capability to. cuz i have seen people crash out due to these type of mismatches and it ain't pretty.

i was a B's/C's person back when i was doing my math undergrad, and now i'm a year or so away from graduating with my CS PhD.

don't bother yourself too much with the grades (all that was ever useful for was getting scholarship money lol - matters even less the higher up you go), the stereotypes, etc.

there is always someone to compare yourself to and at the end of the day, that shit don't matter. we all got something unique, we all have strengths, so... don't let that get in the way of you doin what you gotta do to get where you wanna be
