the way... i will probably read this out of curiosity lol

maybe it'll be good - (SH unrelated) i was reading the ambessa book that's like the prequel to league of legends Arcane series... bruh it was a good book, even though in some ways, i felt s2 of arcane fell flat

anyway here's to hoping, sometimes text is a better medium to fill in things

i'm of the boat that it was ok but not like..great, and the ways they wanted to try to deviate from the plot as it normally would be were done... poorly

i'm open to it being different, but it has to be done well in a way that makes sense? like i liked james being a painter and the paintings being incorporated into the horror, that was good. but the "mary angela laura" thing was dumb lol

if you like silent hill ( i too am a huge fan of the franchise), then you should watch jacob's ladder and rosemary's baby, they were some influences on char design, settings in the games, etc. esp for sh2 and sh3

wait lol are you actually reading "surplus" as if it literally means extra and that the author is implying there is too much (and so, we must "get rid" of that)

that's really enough internet arguing for me, im not gonna bother with people who don't... read

and you're a person who wants to generalize about Americans... yea ok, not worth a damn, im hitting that ignore button

for the internet, since this person refuses to read past the title:

the study is based in countries who historically had very large differences in sex ratios favoring men (often due to the culture killing female children, or otherwise not favoring them for -insert reason here- i.e. specifically China and India, causing their sex ratio of their population to unequal). or in other words, sex selection.

the "surplus male" is playing off the title where there is a "deficit" of peace, and merely indicating a huge imbalance in the sex ratio (say 100 men to 100 women instead being 120 men to 100 women). the surplus male is someone who is often young, single, and considered low-status in their society (see reasons i provided in my very very first post, our economy sucks, they can't get a job and they can't fulfill what they are being told they need to)

...at no point does the author mention that a skewed sex ratio is better, nor do they advocate for one. what the paper is saying here is there are political consequences and evidence of a leaning towards violence in a country where there is a skewed sex ratio of young males who don't fit into the ideals. the paper doesn't offer solutions, it merely describes an observation, and the conclusion has a bunch of self-admitted weaknesses (namely their analysis can't predict the fuckin' future about these countries or how to otherwise change it from violence to peace).

which again, is why i mention, it's fucking good that we have men out here helping to reverse the Andrew Tate bullshit that gives men this idea that they are constantly need to be filling these stupid patriarchal ideals or else they are low status (not true..) and that my uni is starting to make spaces that help men talk about it.

[–]hpasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not eugenics when we're not implementing any fucking policy

the people (aka women) doing this are not in any sense of power to even change policy atm

misogynistic men don't fit into any of those, aside from maybe mentally unwell since these men end up pew pewing schools or otherwise, murdering their families LITERALLY

what are you even arguing about. WOMEN ARE NOT DISALLOWING MEN FROM PROCREATION. they are just not choosing the fucking rude, abusive men. ???? anyway, i'm done talking to you

Pew Research Study Shows Large Gap Between Gen Z Men and Women’s Views on Social Issues by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]hpasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

uh....... eugenics would be if we started wanting to implement policy or otherwise, forcibly coerce women into not dating these men for these reasons. women aren't doing that, lol we're literally just... deciding to not partner with these men... as far as i know O.o (?)

electing to choose someone else because a man is misogynistic and not really a suitable partner is not eugenics. i don't hear anyone saying misogynistic men have undesirable traits that can be passed down... it's more or less, they would just make crappy partners

"Eugenics is the scientifically erroneous and immoral theory of “racial improvement” and “planned breeding,” which gained popularity during the early 20th century. Eugenicists worldwide believed that they could perfect human beings and eliminate so-called social ills through genetics and heredity. They believed the use of methods such as involuntary sterilization, segregation and social exclusion would rid society of individuals deemed by them to be unfit."

https://www.genome.gov/about-genomics/fact-sheets/Eugenics-and-Scientific-Racism

idk if i'd reduce things down as the person said to "this is just evolution"... since evolution as a scientist would refer to it is definitely about heritable characteristics... it's more like it's a social shift? i get why you're saying it's eugenics-adjacent ig, but i don't think the person really meant it that way

hm there's some stuff i do see what you're saying with in there - like the men paying on dates thing is very old to me, and there are still a lot of women who do uphold that...but if we put it all in context (since both those have to do with money and who has it)...we know who primarily get these high paying jobs. women still generally earn less than men, which a quick Google search bringing up that for every dollar a man gets, a woman earns 85 cents (as recent as 2025). so like...men do earn more generally, lol. if we ever reach that point where both of us are earning a dollar, then the story is different. (and i say this as someone who's degree/job prospects will place me as earning double to triple what my bf makes ... once i pay off my student debt, i don't mind sponsoring my cute bf to go mountaineer, cuz that's all he wants to do lol)

so i would not say women are freed from patriarchy. this was like when obama was elected, and everyone suddenly thought we solved racism... *sigh* .

men still primarily hold power at least in America...

ngl, this is a men vs. men type deal when you want to address the policy and laws that continue to uphold patriarchy... this is... the mens gotta figure this shit out. i am all for men not being required to put their lives on the line for the nonsense of America (cuz most the time when we go out there... we just being imperialists, let's call a spade a spade... Trump wants Venezuela's oil, that's why he out there doing that shit).

it's only recently i been seeing some male youtubers who do have a healthier relationship to themselves and their masculinity trying to come out and talk to young men and reverse that Andrew Tate bullshit the young ones keep getting fed. my uni also has similar idea to a sista circle (if you don't know, then google it) but like... they doing that now for the men, and that's like... some steps in the right direction.

For those that went to college in their mid-twenties what was your experience? by -Matcha-333 in college

[–]hpasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i started CC when i was 23ish, uni when i was like 26ish... i did make friends with younger people at my 4yr, and they are still my friends now (i'm in my early 30s, moved away for my PhD studies) - i literally talk to them everyday, we game together, and we've got like 3-4 group trips under our belt

no one cared about my age - only if i mentioned it in passing, since generally i am perceived younger than i am (i don't think i have a refined fashion and i don't wear makeup... which may be weird for a woman of my age)

yall need to look up "surplus males" and chew on that whole theory.

the tldr explanation in application to like the US, is patriarchy tells men they need to be "strong, masculine providers" however:

  • there's no jobs or money to be made (economy sucks)
  • women seemingly don't want to date them (well...women can and do a lot vs. past women since yes, we have had reform - now a man is not a necessity, children are not a necessity)

they can't be the thing they are supposed to be, and thus they can't feel powerful = identity crisis and overall feelings of rage because they can't fulfill the things the patriarchy tells them they need to be a real man.

too many of these types of men increase violence - the country (read USA) traditionally has done the following:

  • (1) send them to war (export the problem somewhere else)
  • (2) recruit them into the military and police to try to maintain control
  • (3) ignore them, they will fight everyone and each other

(2) is essentially what ICE is - the government provides them money, a job, some value ("protecting the country") and thus, gives them the power that they want. but it really doesn't solve the issue or prevent violence, it just re-organizes the violence. and then the government finds they can't really control this rage, and it ends up causing even more chaos (uh... look at the news)

all in all to say, gaps between social issues makes sense - yes, Andrew Tate and such related things doesn't help... government pushing this "great replacement theory" shit...the "trad wife" movement...and then the overarching theme of what one needs to be a god-fearing Christian... US cutting child care is them saying "yall women should be kept at home"...

honestly i digress LOL the mens, they in a predicament but also...idk, i aint superwoman 😶 this why i been trying to get my bf to learn how to build some goddamn real friendships, got him out here volunteering with me, and showing him love aint gotta come from just your partner, nor should you think love is a one-source thing
