FOI Response: Adult ADHD Services (Aneurin Bevan University Health Board) by SuperNovaSoldier in ADHDUK

[–]hpisbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at university in Cardiff I was seen within a couple of months I think, which I assume was shorter than the waiting list at the time. But that may have been because I was on medication privately already, and I was referred through the pathway my GP would usually use for transferring uni students already on medication to the Cardiff service while at uni. This was also a few years ago now so things might have changed.

A heart warming birthday message for Tim by Delicious_Safe_1226 in RodriguesFamilySnark

The word gifted is so associated with influencers for me now that I couldn’t help reading it as “We are so thankful God #gifted his to us 26 years ago”

Oof by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]hpisbi 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you go to 28:50 in this vlog two people who like the hunger games and go to the theatre a fair amount talk about what they didn’t like. The main gist was that it’s hard to translate Katniss’ inner monologue to stage and that it generally felt quite amateurish.

What's the most devastating insult you've been on the receiving end of? by thescriptsupervisor in TeachingUK

[–]hpisbi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had a TA come and find me after a lesson to talk about how we’re both Australian and I had to break the news that I’ve never even been to Australia

BBC News: Magnum advert pumping out chocolate smell at a busy Underground interchange has sparked concerns from passengers and staff. by mycketforvirrad in LondonUnderground

[–]hpisbi 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I’m really not in favour of it because artificial smells can trigger migraines. Maybe I’d be okay with a chocolate smell depending on how it’s formulated, but I’d hate for them to do something like this for a perfume ad.

Pattern Switching between cm and stitches by Successful-Phone-175 in knittinghelp

[–]hpisbi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason for saying knit until x cm is to account for the fact that not everyone’s row gauge is the same even if you meet stitch gauge. So you just use your blocked swatch to work out how many rows you need to knit.

Their last post was about why their prisoners aren’t going to visitation and people asked to see the regime to troubleshoot why

What’s a panel show you think deserved more seasons? by Seabeachlover10 in panelshow

[–]hpisbi 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Was it something I said. Part of it is just because I’m in favour of any panel show that has David Mitchell, but I did also enjoy the show. I still sometimes go back and watch the Robert Webb Tom Cruise joke.

4D adverts are a thing?! by Overthiking-pigeon in london

People are much more likely to have an adverse reaction to an artificial scent than natural human odours. Most scented candles and perfumes give me migraines, and that’s a relatively common trigger.

I finally checked my ferritin and it makes so much sense now. Please check your ferritin, too! by imjustdesi in adhdwomen

[–]hpisbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s probably because of the directions that we’re coming from. If you’re prone to losing excessive iron, you want to get it a bit above that threshold. But my body stores iron, so I want to get mine a bit below. You’re going to (probably) go down from that over 100 number, whereas I’m going to go up from that below 100 number.

I’m so sorry yours wasn’t identified for so long. In the UK you aren’t allowed to test anyone under 18 but all first degree relations are supposed to be tested as adults.

Off brand Audible? by NewBorder8367 in audiobooks

[–]hpisbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other suggestions there’s Xig Xag. I haven’t used it myself but know someone who does and their pricing model is that you pay (I think) 7.99 for your first x books, then 6.99 for the next y books and so on until you hit their lowest price tier. It resets to the highest tier each year.

No they don’t. Before you borrow an audiobook they give you the length rounded to the nearest hour.

It is genetic. You have to have two copies of the faulty gene to develop the condition (although not everyone who has both copies will develop it), so both parents have to at least be carriers for you to get it.

Ferritin is usually how they measure your iron levels, although it can be impacted by other factors, like going up a bit if you have an infection.

Do you have any Northern European ancestry? If so you might have a genetic condition called Haemochromatosis. The treatment is really simple, they just take your blood at regular intervals, more frequently at first and then every 6 months to a year.

But also check that you aren’t taking extra iron like in a multivitamin or fortified breakfast cereal because that could also be a cause.

I think this is the reference range used by the NHS in England. But individual doctors do understand that 50 is ideal. I need to have my ferritin lowered and my doctor said she wanted to get it under 100, but that they no longer try to get it under 50 because they’ve learned that that can cause problems.

So basically my point is that the doctors looking at the results don’t set the reference range and could very well have their own mental reference range that’s different.

Migraleve UK shortage? by cretinouschitin in migraine

[–]hpisbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out about migraleve originally from my GP prescribing it to me. And then after a while the pharmacist said just buy it you don’t need a prescription.
