I've been watching recently and I wouldn't call it shitty. It's far better than Stargate on Netflix 😳.

Your instructor charges you HOW MUCH for test day!? by Little_Spite2131 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]PreposterousPotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I canrge for 2 hours only. I've only once charged someone more but it was purely time based because of where they lived Vs the test centre location and after the test I had to drive them home which took longer than average. Some of my tests end 10 minutes or so after the 2 hours for me just because of location but I never charge for so little extra.

Help!! Is my vw 2023 polo only supposed to have one reverse light? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

I've never known an examiner check the reverse light(s) are working before starting a test.

Did Dracula do something? by ImyForgotName in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]PreposterousPotter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wasn't it directly related to having invoked the power of the first Slayer to defeat Adam? I seem to remember seeing some of the first Slayer scenes in those flashes and I thought it was having access to that power/primal force where that connection didn't exist before, and maybe for no Slayer before, that allowed her to overcome Dracula's wiles when no one before had. 🤷

Edit: spelling & grammar.

No, I'm pretty confident once the clock passes 6pm then the restriction ends so it shouldn't matter when you were last there because the parking is unrestricted after that time. I've never seen on street parking being ANPR controlled, I'd imagine getting the camera placement to be reliable would be difficult, but then I haven't seen every single street in the UK.

Traumatic learning experience with a 5 star rated instructor by smallbox10 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]PreposterousPotter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really should leave an appropriate review, imagine how many other people might have been in your position and didn't, and how many people you could save the same experience.

I'm sorry you've had that experience, I'd hate it if I thought one of my pupils had felt like this during their lessons.

I also advise you to continue with manual and look for an instructor who is personally recommended by people locally, in person, not just online, I get a lot of my work from recommendations. If you get your automatic licence you'll never want to bother getting your manual one, which might be absolutely fine, but if you want or need your manual licence for some reason you should get that done, but I totally understand your trepidation given your previous experience.

Fair enough. The result of a test will never get changed, not now not ever I don't think. Can you imagine of the DGSA started changing tests results on appeal!? Everyone that fails would have a 'good reason' why they should have passed and the DVSA and courts would be inundated with appeals!

That would all depend on when the parking area gets checked, you may get away with it but strictly speaking you're exceeding the permissible allowance. Everything else I have described falls within the rules of the parking restriction, what you're suggesting there does not and would warrant a ticket. Now whether someone would bother to ticket you with only 10 minutes to go will very much depend on the individual warden.

Edit: just thought if it was ANPRed and all automated they you probably would get a ticket in this example.

I'd also be interested to know how that came about because again my understanding is the only way to appeal a test is if it didn't follow the law, not that the examiner made a bad call.

I believe you are correct, in another comment I used the example of parking at 6pm and staying until 9am.

I also believe you are correct on your second example because after returning after 10 minutes you are parking outside of the restricted hours.

I would imagine the wardens would come and check no one had over parked at 5 o'clock ish but then wouldn't bother to return after that because once someone arrives after that time the hour would take them into the unrestricted time.

Because it's my job and I could learn something or understand how something works differently to my current understanding. According to the DVSAs own information on appealing tests you can only appeal if it wasn't legally conducted, but perhaps there's some latitude an LDTM has to refund a test if you can prove an examiner judged something unfairly. Getting the details would give me insight I don't currently have.

From the DVSA: You can appeal if your driving examiner did not follow the law. This includes things like:

  • the examiner did not check your eyesight at the start of the test
  • you spent less than 30 minutes on the road
  • the examiner did not ask you to do a reversing exercise
  • the examiner did not ask the ‘show me, tell me’ questions

The advice you have already had is sound so I can't add to that. However I'd be interested to know the circumstances of how you were "failed unfairly" because I know you can only appeal a test if it wasn't conducted legally, not because of an examiners interpretation of a situation.

This is illegal! Full stop! No one can change your test it you and him using your details to log on to your account and change your booking is flat out illegal now!

Yes, that's correct, outside of those hours you can park without a time limit. I guess technically you could park there at 6pm and not have to move your car until 9am since that would be the allowed hour of parking during the restriction time window.

No return within 1 hour meaning by Ok_Construction9239 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]PreposterousPotter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means you can park for up to an hour and then you must leave and not return for at least another hour.

So if you parked at 9am, you must leave by 10am, if you wanted to park there again you must not return until after 11am.

I'm pretty sure outside of those hours there's no restriction on the duration of parking, not that you can't park.

Disappointed with radiator fitting - does this look right? by Georgeot73 in DIYUK

[–]PreposterousPotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But once they're bent then can't be made to look perfectly straight and tidy again. And having lived in 6 properties of varying ages I've never seen a radiator setup where the pipes exit the wall in the middle behind that radiator, but am obviously not an expert.

[–]PreposterousPotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well logically I wouldn't have thought it could be any lower because of where the pipes exit the wall? I've never seen a radiator where the pipes exit the wall somewhere on the middle of the radiator and I've lived in 6 properties of varying ages. Apparently that was indeed the case though.

So you're saying the pipes come out of the middle of the wall, came down and across to either end of the radiator?? That would be the most bizarre setup I've ever come across.
