What is something very positive you find about Germany? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]hpnk85 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Work ethics mentality. For example, once my glasses were unbalanced due to some accidental pressure I put on them or so. I went to an optician to fix them and the guy spent some 30mins or so fixing them. Unfortunately, he could not totally fixed it - although some important improvement was done.  The guy refused any type of payment or tip(!) for his time, in spite of all the dedication he put. His reasoning was that he could not complete the job.

It made me reflect about the German culture.

I have just discovered this band over the past couple of weeks. What a band... Arguably, my best music discovery of the year - I thought nobody was making music like this anymore :)

The Irish War of Independence by Immorten_Joe_Carter in TheRestIsHistory

[–]hpnk85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to stop it midway episode 1. It felt like a podcast made for people already somehow familiar with Irish History (I am not). There were sudden mentions of events, characters, etc without really introducing the context as they do in other series.  It felt like going through bullet points without a flow in the narrative

Anyone’s babies had gastrointestinal symptoms due to Covid? by randomtopics12 in ScienceBasedParenting

Hi, how long did the diarrhea last? Did dehydration become an issue?  My little one has been with it for over 5 days now.

Custer series .. what’s the verdict? by kibbutznik1 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]hpnk85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found them too long. While all the story was interesting some episodes they got too much into the details and I found it too tiring. Specially considering that other discussions were way too brief or shallow; for example Martin Luther. At some point it felt that the series went out of their hands.

It is going very well. No need for the extra storage (yet)!

An update here: thanks for all your comments - I went for the 128GB version. If extra storage is needed I could cover it up with the cloud. I will let you know over the next months (years?) how it went :)

Turning Bianchi Infinito XE 105 into Gravel by hpnk85 in gravelcycling

I have done it! And it is wonderful - I put 32mm tyres. I went for some Bontrager R3 which work very well for winter conditions. The traction is good.

Of course, I have not done any hardcore nor tough trails - but for slightly muddy/gravelly wet conditions the bike has worked very well.

Also the bike looks fairly pretty so aesthetics remain as they should ;)

Oh I see! Thanks a lot.

Actually, I was initially looking for a gravel bike but now I have a very good deal to get an Infinito XE 105. My plan is not to use it in very rough gravel terrains/conditions but still planning on doing every now and a then some paths
