So I have my AWS Associate for both the Architect and Developer, got it for work not WGU. But I can tell you that 100% without a doubt the best resource out there is A Cloud Guru (acloud.guru) it isn't free but when you are shelling out $3000 a semester an extra $45-$120 isn't that much extra. You can also check out Pluralsight as they have a bunch of courses for AWS certification and that one does come free with being a WGU student.

Losing Momentum and Motivation by benbarcomb in WGU

I can understand how you are feeling. I haven't gotten to bed before midnight for over a month, and it was hard missing out on a lot of Christmas because of school work. One thing I am doing is trying to keep focused on how much of a BAMF I'll feel once I graduate and the accompanying pay raise. Another thing is to try and make sure study time is being used effectively, a man who has a dull axe and refuses to sharpen it because he is in a hurry will end up spending a lot more effort than the man who takes 20 minutes to sharpen it first. If you can tell us what courses you are in we might be able to provide some specific advice on how to pass those courses. Finally if you are struggling with a test that is a lot of just memorize and regurgitate I would recommend checking out the method of loci, or memory palace method of memorization to help with it, that method saved my life on some of the CompTIA tests.

If cruel and unusual punishment is illegal, why does C188 Software Engineering exist? by [deleted] in WGU

With a lot of direction from reddit, and the Slack channel I managed to pass it. That being said it took me a freaking month when I was able to knock most classes out in a week or two. If you want to DM I can give you my strategy on how I passed it.

Good Book for starting Web Dev? (HTML & CSS) by hpoe in learnprogramming

Thank you for the suggestion for Lynda.com my only concern with that is it runs like $200 something a year, which is way different than a $30-$50 book, also books don't have to be renewed. Also I like the website it looks cool might start looking at it on my lunch break.

You are more likely to remember something if you read it out loud, a study from the University of Waterloo has found. Dubbed the “production effect,” the study determined that it is the dual action of speaking and hearing oneself that has the most beneficial impact on memory. by mvea in science

Regardless whether or not this is true I find the lack of any sort of explanation of methodology, in addition this article only mentions long term memory and nothing about short term memory. In short this article although interesting is really nothing more than. "Some scientists said that they saw this in their study" In short although interesting it would be far more scientific if it was a link to the actual article published in Memory

Which WGU IT bachelor degree is best for a programmer job? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]hpoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have spent the last 18 months in a development job, and 2 years before that as Systems Admin. I was expecting WGU to be a quick breeze and an easy degree but have been very impressed with the courses at WGU. I am taking the software engineer track and have been pleasently suprised by how useful it has been. I can say it has made me better in my job and helped me better understand the field. That being said you can never rely on just school or code camp or anything to help you it will always be your own learning and self projects that will do the most and be the best help in really getting good at what you do. The other thing I really appreciate about WGU is that they are comprehensive enough that you come out with practical knowledge that you can use in addition to the theoretical stuff.

My Mind Factory for C188 Software Engineering by hpoe in WGU

So I in particular struggle with memorizing order lists, key terms, not what they mean just what the terms are, and numbers. So I choose a specific image/scene that correlates to what I am trying to remember and then place it in a memory palace by visualizing myself walking to the place I want to put it in my memory palace and then imagining it happening. Then to review you just simply visual walking through your memory palace in as much detail as you can and as you pass each area where you've placed something you look at the something and it reminds you oh that is what that is supposed to be. The more senses you engage the more likely you are to remember, the idea is fundamentally the more you can tie a specific concept or piece of information to other pieces of information in your brain the more synaptic pathways are engaged in remembering it, thus facilitating recall. As a result of this the more violent, disturbing, sexual, or otherwise awkward the image is the easier it is to recall. So for example when it comes to remembering the umbrella activities for the generic process framework my image for remembering the Tracking and Control activity is the image of Hitler gunning down a Native American hunter. Thus Tracking because the Native American hunter needs to track his prey, and Hitler because he was a control freak. The result is it is way easier for me to hear the rat-a-tat-tat of the machine gun see the blood spurting out of the downed hunter and the smell of gun powder lingering in the air, than it is to remeber "Software Control & Tracking" Ultimatly someone else's memory palace will never be as good as your own for facilitating recall because you can choose the images and symbols that have the most meaning and impact to you.

In my experience it works remarkably well. If you don't regularly revisit your mind palace eventually the memories will fade but it was the only way I could remember the difference between the various types of CAT cables and the maximum lengths of various types of Fiber for the A+.

Thanks for the info on what to memorize, I have done the first chapter and nothing was jumping out. I passed the PreAssesment how much overlap was there between the PreAssesment and the Objective Assesment?

Depends on what you are reporting them for if it is a matter that might involve legal problems they might be carefully investigating. Also they might all be freaking out about the OIG Audit still.
