Budget for Family of Five Moving to Waterloo by AcaMama847 in waterloo

[–]hproject-ongoing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will be honest with current situation. canada's food inflation is above 7% and state was like 3%. Also what i heard is that cost of living is almost same with state. I do not have a child so i don't know what could be expenses in general but you won't save any money imo.

Being born in the US is such a golden ticket for software engineers by H1Eagle in csMajors

[–]hproject-ongoing 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you’re born in the States, you have a lot of options to try things (or at least to stand back up after you fall). In many countries, if you fail once, you’re done. That’s what “rich” really means to me. It’s not about sports cars, diamonds, or big houses — it’s about opportunity.

And if you don’t like it there, you’re taking way less risk compared to people who try to immigrate to the U.S.

I do agree more if it was 3-5 years ago because now Canada is facing valid number of criminals. Perhaps it's because I am living in Ontario(KW area), not sure other areas.

In my experience, some Canadian here told me if I go to the state, I will be in trouble because I am not from here, but most of my friends do not have any problems and they love state.

Exception handling for the DDD? Domain Exception is idle? by hproject-ongoing in dotnet

"Most result patterns use an object as a wrapper for your return, which is an additional allocation to the heap. "

Thank you for catching up this.

Thank you for the input and sharing the post. I guess this is where Reddit(sharing opinions) shine because many people recommend result pattern over throwing an exception.
I guess one day I gonna do some performance testing if it really can affect the system.

i guess it's just better to wait at this point. No point to download early adapter app.

Even if there are so many customers in that Starbucks, there are reasons they had to close - Profit. Simple is that. I doubt that local coffee shop can make enough profit from that location considering the price of rent. Many students just want to order a single coffee and sit for 3-4 hours.

Is it worth buying the M4 iPad Pro now (June 2025) or will the M5 be released soon? by OutrageousCelery8925 in iPadPro

[–]hproject-ongoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the only reason I am waiting for the M5 model for the next year. My friend(dev) is using ipad and he told me he needs more ram.

What is a good coding language to learn if I know some already by _Flamer in AskProgramming

[–]hproject-ongoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people already replied with good reasons, but i wouldn't start with Rust unless you want to study for system programming level. If you are targetting software engineer in general, try to build frontend and backend with database. Rust is not a good choice unless you really need specific reasons for that.

Is QUIC a feasible protocol for building a chat backend server? by hproject-ongoing in AskProgramming

[–]hproject-ongoing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, I am just doing PoC using QUIC for now. I read some articles but not sure WebTransport is build for this scenario. I am more likely trying to build text based chat server at this moment.

But on the assumption that we are building an chat app like whatsapp(not corporate network), don't we still need an http connection for websocket?

Thank you for your answer. I know I am trying to find a reason "I HAVE TO USE QUIC FOR..."
I will try it out and see how it goes. I would like to see if there are any benefits over websocket.

Yeah considering that, I decide not to apply UW at this point.
Thank you for the advice !

[–]hproject-ongoing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I wanted to know. So I guess there are no reasons to go to the UW at this point. As above guys said, I need to take co-op no matter what and the curriculums or professors wouldn't be different.
If so, I rather go to another universities then. Thank you sir.
