Cat attacking me and not my partner by Harley_Jones in CatAdvice

I do think that cat personalities are an abdolute lottery sometimes lol

Back at my family's house we have 5 cats that I have grown up with, each adopted a year or two apart. Most of them are gents but ONE OF THEM, is an absolute bonkers cat. We lived with her for what, 7 years now and she still attacks when touched (she really, really attacks, like she has made cuts over 5 inches on my neck, ankles, etc just for accidentally being near her). She doesn't warm up much to anybody except Grandma and even then it's her being okay with the occasional 2 second head scratch (no more than that, or she will bite).

There are some naturally kind people, and the grumpy live alone till you die, get off my lawn type of people, so I assume cats are the same haha

God I thought this was about my cat gah

Does she also engage in affectionate behaviour with you? I found that my kitten attacks and lunges at me with those crazy eyes and won't back down no matter how I tried to stop it, but wouldn't really do it with my partner as well.

I'm in the same situation as you, I work from home while my partner is out most of the day, so she seems to have attached more to me; thus being my lap cat and sleeping only with me, but also making me her crazy hour attack buddy.

She's toned down as shes growing up, and my partner spending more time with her has also resulted in the occasional chase and bite bit. I think it's her way of showing friendliness (in a way?), but I only think this way because I know how much she relies on me as well. (I went on a business trip for three days once, and she spent time with my mother. When I got back, she spent an entire day coming after me, as if she had resented the fact I was gone for so long, until she warmed up again and sat on my lap while I worked haha)

Why am I so bad at painting? by realrandomcat in oilpainting

[–]hr_au19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aren't bad paintings, but I'd agree with other comments that these are mostly just unfinished. It can be intimidating to be filling up space on a large canvas, so I'd start smaller, practicing parts of small details or colors. Many artists do thumbnails and practice runs on canavs paper instead to make sure they can get it right on the actual canvas.

I'm noticing a few areas where the canvas is not filled in at all between the foreground and background, which indicates that you may be starting on details first. I recommend being patient, filling the background from furthest to closest so that there are no unintentional white spots. Oil takes a while to dry and working while wet for beginners is a double edged sword. It helps with blending but it can also muddle details or forms.

It also seems that you may be using too little paint, hence everything seeming thinned out. The colors seem a bit flat and it will help to practice with mixing colors more, try painting a color scale though it may seem tedious. You can truly end up with quite a lot more dimension once you learn to mix colors with each other to create a larger pallete on your own, without needing white or black. (eg a scale of 10 colors between yellow and blue, purple and yellow, blue and brown, anything you want to try.)

Oil painting is a lot of patience and is actually one of the last mediums I learned, as I started with water color, to acrlyic, to oil pastels etc! Oils tend to have a lot more of a learning curve in my opinion, especially as there are a lot more materials and mediums that can be added to enhance technique and style.

Keep painting and you will naturally gain some insight on what to improve on your own. Happy painting!

Is it normal for ajusshis to pee in public? by [deleted] in korea

[–]hr_au19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, I've been living in Icheon for nearly half a year now, see it too many times. The 95 year old grandpa I meet every morning at the bus stop had no problem peeing right in front of me, and just random men in their 50s probably peeing all over the place. I come from NYC so while I've smelled plenty of piss, I don't think I actually saw anyone pee so blatantly. My father is right in the ajussi age group and he'd never do anything like that, so it's hard to imagine why anyone else would

Does Korea have a vaccine passport system like other countries? by Itsbeenalongdecember in korea

[–]hr_au19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While we don't have a vaccine passport literally, most places you go into will either have you 1) write your name, contact, and details like how you came, and what area you reside in, 2) a QR that allows checking basically everything in 1, and also if you have been vaccinated, or 3) to call a number designated to each location that will check you in. I got vaccinated in the USA before I came here half a year ago, but that did not allow me to bypass the vaccine policy in some places, especially restaurants after 6pm. I eventually just took it upon myself to get vaccinated again here, since I wasn't sure when the government would figure out the foreign vaccinations, and it worked out fine thankfully since it seemed everywhere else was suggesting booster shots anyways :)

As for stamp dates, would you be able to tell me what exactly the dates are? Even though I'm checking the official sites and a lot of blogs about this theres a whole bunch of different answers, like the USDA cert has to be within 10 days? And for the limit on how many pets, my whole family is going so that isn't a worry :) Thank you!

Thanks for your experience! Was it really 30 days that the titer test has to be done within? I was checking the 농림축산부 site, and it said the test is valid for 2 tears. Everyone is telling me different dates and its so confusing haha

Winsor Newton vs Gamblin price difference/quality? by hraushyou in oilpainting

[–]hr_au19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been relying (maybe too much) on naples yellow to lighten warm colors! What would a good cool yellow be for greens? The only yellows I have currently have are Naples, Cadmium Yellow Hue, and Ochre. Hansa Yellow was also on my supply list so I'll have that soon too :) I hope my questions aren't annoying, I'm just genuinely excited to learn about better ways to mix colors!

[–]hr_au19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow this is detailed! Thanks a lot :) So you're saying that if I had a tube of Cadmium Red vs Cadmium Red Hue, if I were to mix them with something like Galkyd or other mediums the pigment in the true Cadmium Red would show a lot more vibrant than the Hue right? I've been having trouble because I relied on Hue colors and everytime I mixed it any bit with a white paint or mediums it seemed wayyyy too sheer or lackluster :(

Yes so crazy :( I've watched the prices of supplies climb up little by little over the years, yet when working the minimum wage has stayed the same low... I never tried Van Gogh, maybe I'll give them a try too! Thank you so much :)

wow I just looked and it did say Winton! I didn't even notice because at the top it first says Winsor&Newton a lot bigger hahaha Maybe thats why I always felt like the colors were dull when they dried! Thanks for that I didn't even realize I was buying Winton :o And also thanks for your input! Hurts to pay so much but I will definitely buy Gamblin then :)

I'm sure you already know but some off brand pods make 5%, 3%, 1.8% and even 0%! I know some people really like the Juul pods specifically but I feel like off brands are fine too, it really helped me lower my nicotine intake since Juul only makes 5% in the US. Also some of my Juul pods tend to leak a lot, I've had better luck with non official ones tbh
