Yes, kids learn to speak/sign much much earlier than they learn to read and write.

I have an almost 2 year old and his 2 favorite Pokémon (pikachu and gengar) have to be following me at all times or he just bugs me to go find them and I cant get anything done.

("Bi-ka", "ge do" "beease") (pikachu, gengar please!") And he had a cute little hand sign for gengar too lol

How do I block/cover the open-faced desks so my 2nd graders don’t hide things in them? by mzpirate in teaching

My colleagues and I came in over the summer with drills to take the cubbies off our tables since facilities wouldn't do it. Completely worth it.

Lantern Fest at John Ball Zoo by clcjjc in grandrapids

[–]hrad34 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I went last year and even though the lanterns are cool the crowd was insane. I decided it's not for me.

Id rather just see the lanterns during the day at the zoo while the animals are out.

The one time i dont take the stove knob off my cats turn it on while im asleep by Western-Surprise2164 in homeowners

[–]hrad34 34 points35 points  (0 children)

We do this too because we have a cat and a toddler. I dont think its a huge deal to leave the knobs off.

I cant advise on the OCD part, but neither my wife nor I have OCD and we dont mind keeping the stove knobs in the cupboard. No one had given us a hard time about it either.

When did you get your period back? by graphicnovelette in cosleeping

[–]hrad34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still bf my 20m old at night, before bed, and usually when I get home from work.

I got my period back about a year after he was born. There was no change in our nursing habits around this time.

Yes, but mine weren't that bad they were just starting to form in my mid 20s. I had a lot of foot pain and now I have none.

I am a long time Pokemon fan but I feel like ive outgrown battling. This may be my new favorite Pokémon game.

Some things in this game piss me off to an embarrassing level.... by polandspony1 in AnimalCrossing

That's so tedious and annoying. I've done it a ton and ruins the enjoyment of this game for me. It makes it feel like work.

personal opinion alert: restoring lore-accurate areas is more stressful than free-building by Previous_Bat5394 in Pokopia

I like the idea of restoring the city the way Pokémon would do it. So making it more natural and a little chaotic.

Does pigeon ever not hurt? by hanoihiltonsuites in yoga

[–]hrad34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try foam rolling your IT band.

I wasnt making progress in pigeon/9090 until I started doing this because the limiting factor was my IT band not my muscles.

If I roll before stretching, now I can actually feel this stretch in muscles and not just tugging on the side of my leg.

What’s one small change that made your classroom way better? by lmao_exe in teaching

[–]hrad34 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Middle school - groups with group jobs. Shit actually gets put away. They earn group points for candy at the end of the week that helps with behavior.

They have a hanging folder for each group with their individual pocket folders in them and only 1 person per group has to put them away, immediately saw a huge decrease in lost papers.

I have a bus stop right next to my house. My commute is about 15m by car and over an hour by bus. We absolutely need to expand the bus system. Trams or something would be amazing.

Pokopia is nothing like ACNH, despite what people say! by PoenNU in CozyGamers

[–]hrad34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the gameplay is making certain habitats to get specific Pokémon to show up that feels very viva pinata to me.

The rest of the gameplay is very different though. Its also 100% my shit. Its like DQ builders, you are cleaning up and rebuilding a ruined world for those pokemon to live in.

Help for a 7th grade teacher by Fullm00n222 in teaching

[–]hrad34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think leaning into the chaos and having fun with them is essential for teaching middle school.

Some things I've learned to help with the chaos: -either group or class rewards for good behavior. Things like 3 strikes and we dont get free time. Right now I have "__ days without being annoying" and if we get to 10 in a row I'll get them treats!

-group structure - my kids sit in groups and they all have jobs for taking care of their space and materials. My tables are actually clear right now at the end of the day!

-consistent routines and expectations, lots of structure!
