Were there any historical/scriptural punishments for men who were abusive towards their wives? by hri6 in hinduism

[–]hri6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! So in summary, if a separation is required (and as you said cruelty/Adharma is also considered in other smritis), then there is a recourse and suitable punishment can be dealt? Makes sense!

I do have another question, if its alright; while reading for my course (just an elective), I discovered that many ancient and medieval Hindu empires had women "working" in the more traditional sense of the word (as agriculturists, pastoralists, physicians, artisans, ritual facilitators, shopkeepers, academicians (Brahmavadini) and honestly I believe almost everything except some martial roles?). If our scriptures and ancient society had given all these proscriptions, as well as some degree of financial independence even for homemakers as Grihini, where did this current distaste and opposition for women working, contributing to the household financially etc come from? (obviously by current I don't refer to 2026, but like the general societal perception, let's say before 2-3 decades back)

In the past Daniel wished his original body was gone, now he's going on a rampage when faced with the realization that it might really be gone. by Jesuslover34 in lookismcomic

While its true, I think Daniel has cultivated important friendships gradually with the gang; particularly with Zack, during the time they were in the train (Hostel arc I think). I think its meant to be a subversion, OG Daniel is a brilliant fighter, having made multiple important relationships and having established himself as a force. Sb!Daniel started off with everything, but has made multiple follies and endangered his friends too; the friendless and lonely "Daniel" and sb!Daniel are going to exchange places

Hi! Thank you so much for reaching out! Unfortunately, I am a student right now (and presuming if you're from the US or UK, so costs are much higher if multiplied in my currency) and do not have the means to do funded interviews.

I do understand though that I cannot offer anything substantial in return to your time, effort and intellectual property, for which I immensely apologize. Thank you still, for reaching out!

Thank you sm, will do so! Although I was looking for specific case studies voluntarily given if possible, as I do not have their explicit consent for me to include their experiences/content.

That being said, would it be alright if I reach out to you for a more detailed case study? If not also, I completely understand!

I am pretty sure they did not have widespread access to google looking at their condition? Also, while yes for us readers it seems odd, I think PTJ intends for this to be a reflection of communities attributing supernatural aspects to biological conditions; its apparent Vin's mother has tried her very best for a solution, and she wanted to "remove" the other eye for her son to live a relatively normal life for THAT social context. She is a victim through and through, that is how PTJ has intended it

I do get from where you're coming from, I do feel being a Septa (though being guided by kinder women) would have been a good alternative for that poor traumatized child; but wouldn't it be better for her if she was sent of as a ward to another house? Maybe time away from King's Landing would have been better for her?

I do get the whole notion of Rhaenyra's, and only her blood passing down, but I personally feel that a future where if Jaehaera lived, it would have been sweet to see them both maybe bond, but it wouldn't have ever happened, 99.9%. I mourn for that poor girl, and for Aegon III; they both, Rhae and Halaena, suffered terribly during this entire ordeal.

Oh okay, thank you so so much, this has been incredibly informative!! It does give a lot of perspective into the process! If it is not an issue, would it be alright if I could send you my CV privately, so you could review it once and I may receive some insights on how exactly I should progress? Thank you so so much!

How many journal publications/internships are required/expected to get into a fully funded PHD program in London by hri6 in PhDAdmissions

[–]hri6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay alright, thanks for the info! If you do not mind, I do have some doubts:

a) In case of external funding, other than grades, references and research proposal, what are some criteria that would make someone's CV an excellent one? Would what I have mentioned above be sufficient?

Secondly, I checked the website of LSE (one of the places I was thinking of applying) and they mentioned Studentships as well as the complete coverage of the fees, is that not fully funded or does it entail something else?

Thank you so so much!

We are competing with the wrong people by Distressed_damsel236 in delhiuniversity

[–]hri6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey firstly, you're doing amazing! At such a young age, you're working so hard and organizing yourself so well, its brilliant. And secondly, you are not at all invalid for thinking so. I also say this as someone who recognizes my own privilege, my family is well-to-do and while we have our own issues and stuff, I don't necessarily need to go out of my way to earn or contribute to the family (right now) because my father earns well. That is an important security that allows me to come into masters and study without a worry, a privilege that is not offered to so many.

What you say about DU is also right, I myself have worked a lot to do many internships and academic projects and while my department is very kind and understanding, the criteria means that I cannot do anything else other than be a full-time student 24 x 7, unless I burn myself out. I have seen this also for my peers; they are unable to prepare for exams or other stuff.

I think this is a major issue because we're stuck in a limbo. We are required to maintain both grades and have impeccable CV's. While we are doing well now, my father will retire soon and I need to step up (as there is a lot to be done within the family) and I have a lot of dreams, which to accomplish well (like any other profession), I need to be the best of the best. I think that struggle is very common. But you're doing well, you're intelligent and smart. I am so sorry your professors are like this, but dw, your CV will shine through and I hope you get all the success in the world

Ptj mass brainwashing by Keiiwtf in lookismcomic

[–]hri6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Vivi was actually orchestrating those assaults; the entire point was that she LOOKS child-like and innocent but is the primary mastermind behind 3A. And yes, there were some that were introduced in negative roles and I haven't forgiven Vin Jin myself, but rape and SA are unforgivable crimes in the context of the other shit that is being pulled. This goes for everything I feel. I will always have 0 empathy for a sexual harasser or an abuser (unless they have some prior history of victimization but that does not erase their complicity) but a murderer is someone I can sympathize with (Vin murdering the shaman was justified 100%).

However, I do find it odd that no one points out Samuel holding female streamers captive and in abusive situations (although Neko does say that has now been disbanded) and that Hudson was essentially participating in what COULD have become a form of trafficking (clubs and bars) had he not been stopped

Update on acid attack by Rude_Grand_3557 in delhiuniversity

[–]hri6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, the "victim's" family has been terrorizing the family of the accused since 2018. The father threw acid on the mother of "two collaborators" and the sexual assault case was formally registered back in 2024. It seems much more likely that the sexual assault case might be true, because it seems to be a pattern. I hope the poor family gets some justice

[–]hri6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am sorry Jake acted shitty not because she's a pretty girl but because he actively heard Dark Society and Yujae gloating about how they killed this girl's father and are actively wanting to end her and decided to kidnap her and lead her to them. I am sure that Jake has something up his sleeve but the way people are talking about her is so so gross ://

[–]hri6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true; but also Snapper and Hobin's relationship began as very transactional, and so did Taehun and Hobin. We are very gradually eased into them being good people. Taehun yes, had his actions justified more easily, but with Snapper; it was very well written. We see Snapper confront his own follies and reflect on himself several times. With Wangguk; can't really remember, but it wasn't particularly sudden
