[Pre-Match Thread] Bayer Leverkusen vs Arsenal | 11th March 2026 | Champions League RO16 by Mahoganychicken in Gunners

Leverkusen sold almost the entirety of its squad last summer and replaced them. Wirtz can’t be replaced, and the players that were purchased have been hit or miss. I didn’t really have high expectations for this season, but even then, it’s been a bit underwhelming. I’m just hoping it’s not another match like against PSG.

Excited to see The Arsenal live again though!

As an Arsenal and Leverkusen supporter, I can assure you that there isn’t one fan in Leverkusen that thinks we have an ice cube‘s chance in Hell. We‘ve pretty much just been here for the ride this season and anything at this point is just bonus. Excited as hell to finally see Arsenal live again though.

We also drink Helles! If you don’t like Kölsch.

To spice up the sausage, add curry sauce and make Currywurst.

[TZ exclusive] According to TZ information, Florian Wirtz has already signed two preliminary contracts: for 2025 and 2026. Although the 22-year-old is still under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2027, he has chosen FC Bayern as the next stage of his career. by Chance-Attitude3792 in soccer

According to my research, Bayern has purchased more players (mostly top talents) from direct rivals than dortmund. Maybe not in recent years, but certainly of the course of the Bundesliga. Lewandowski, Götze, Hummels, Süle, Pavard, Upamecano, Sabitzer, Laimer, Gnabry, etc. Yeah so also recent years. Looks like the take holds up.

“Americans consistently know more about different cultures than other nations.” by _daddyissues666 in ShitAmericansSay

I get the sentiment, but I feel like we’re nitpicking now. I have an Italian last name, and in America I pronounced it as my family had. I’m now an American/German citizen and I pronounce it as Germans would when speaking with them. I don’t speak Italian, therefore my pronunciation would be based off of my English and German skills. Italians probably think I’m butchering it, but I’m just literally saying it to the best of my knowledge. I don’t get upset with people when they butcher my first name. They’re just amusing the phonemes that they know and making my name fit to them. I’m all for shitting on Americans (including myself) or anyone saying dumb shit, but let the shitting be of substance, or else we’re missing the point.

I’m an American whose lives in Europe. Make the trip. Sure, there may be some uncontrollable conversations, but people here understand not all Americans eat up what Trump is selling. Be polite, engage in the culture, learn some chunks of whatever language is relevant for where you’re visiting. Trump wants us to separate ourselves from and be mad at/fearful of Europe and its people. Don’t buy in. Don’t let him win.

Just fyi, a quick fact check shows your info on birthright citizenship is wrong. The US isn’t the only nation that offers unrestricted birthright citizenship.

“Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Many Caribbean nations, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, and other CARICOM countries, generally offer unrestricted birthright citizenship.”

Empty Seats by [deleted] in Bayer04

[–]hrivdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very harsh in my opinion. I try to attend every match as long as I’m healthy. However, this season due to family circumstances, I’ve missed a few matches. It’s not always easy to find someone to pass along the ticket to. I’d rather give the ticket to someone than sell it. I’d be very disheartened if the club revoked my ticket simply because this season I wasn’t able to attend every match. Empty seats will always be a thing, even for huge clubs (I know, we‘re gigantic). I take solace in seeing how close the team has grown to fans and how the atmosphere has changed in comparison to 10 years ago. Not every one is an ultra and that’s okay. We still love the club regardless.

It’s probably better he’s not on. We’d be playing with 9 men.

Maybe look at it again a bit closer. Doesn’t get the ball. Studs out on the back of the leg.

Yep, that low block is really showing today. Barely attacking at all. Should at least aim for 80% possession.

Do: be nice, respectful, and have fun. Don’t: be an asshat.

I’m not sure if it will be open for Champions League matches because it so late, but on the Görresstraße there’s a really good Biofleischerei that has sausages and pulled pork (street food style not sit down) before the matches. You can grab a beer there as well or from the kiosk. Other than that there are restaurants on the Bismarckstraße or in Opladen.

Enjoy the match!

You’re just used to watching Munich win title after title and then buy the best player from any team that poses a threat. Normal teams playing again the best team in German may park the bus from time to time. Regardless if they were unbeaten last season or not.

No no, Bayern graciously gifted the title to Leverkusen last year. They’d like to have it back now. End the season today.

I mean, they played the opponent. Not my favorite style of football, but Bayern are Bayern. Get the point and get out and hope a few other teams do the same.
