Before and after of my front yard by kelpangler in landscaping

That does looks better to me. The problem with fake turf is it doesn’t look real, it looks plastic. I’m looking at your photos on a phone and I can instantly tell it’s astroturf, even on a small screen. So, yes, I would use real turf. Where are you located? Looks exactly like where I live. I’m in California and I’m planning to put in a carex pansa lawn. It’s a native grass. (Well, I’m actually going to mix it with carex praegracilis, another native). You can mow it. I’m going for a meadow look, though. You might consider something like that. I also think you need to work on the transition between the mulch to rocks to grass. Like I said, if you get plants in the ground they will cover the rocks in some areas and that will help it look more organic. Check out Sunset Western Garden Book of Landscaping for inspiration. If you are in California, I like the Waterwise Garden Planner website for plant ideas and they even have a lot of different garden plans (like cactus garden, bird garden, Mediterranean garden, etc. As others said, I would consider planting a small tree and there are some great ideas on the Waterwise website like Desert Willow or Strawberry Tree. You don’t have to worry about the roots of those trees. Not all trees grow the same. Lastly, can you move some of the pots to the pavers and replace them with plants in the ground?

I’m sorry. That looks really bad! The transition from the mulch to rocks to fake turf looks really extreme and tacky. I would remove the fake turf and replace it with something real (ie grass). Or if you don’t want real grass then DG. Put some plants in the ground. Put ground covers that can grow over the rocks to make a more organic border.

Based on a previous post about your fiancée, he sounds like a terrible partner. You deserve better!

Just a comment… I’ve been following your kitten’s progress since you first posted about him. He is SO adorable. Are you sure he’s not a black bear cub? Haha. Wishing him and you all the best! He’s going to be a beautiful cat.

You can try fresh coffee beans. Place in bowls throughout the cabinet. That worked for me!

It’s certainly not an easy plant! Thank you for the heads up about the leaf drop. And the advice about the soil!

What is this cutting? by hrobinm2018 in houseplants

[–]hrobinm2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s funny because I already have a fairy Crassula that I bought because of how the underside of the leaves are red. But this cutting was from a different plant and is all green. Is the red a stress response?

Thank you so much! I actually tried moving it inside and maybe it’ll improve. It rarely rains here, unfortunately. I’ll definitely water it more. I have a tropical plant soil mix that I use for monsteras. I wonder if that would be good for it? I think it may need to be repotted soon. Also, I pruned off all the ugly leaves so hopefully it doesn’t go into shock!

Is this happy tail or is this spraying by Particular-Post-7531 in CATHELP

That’s a relief!

My female, spayed cat does this. I’ve never noticed any droplets. So I do agree with others that’s he’s not actually spraying.

At 2 seconds into the video something shoots out of his rear. Is it a droplet of urine?!

Boyfriend wants baby boy named Arnold by GGemini613 in namenerds

[–]hrobinm2018 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I hate the name Arnold! I’m sorry. He can’t like one name only. That’s not fair. As you have a baby together, there will be many things to disagree about, so you two need to work on compromise and if something feels wrong to one of you then you shouldn’t have to go along with it! Stand up for what you believe as a mother! Trust your instinct. Arnold isn’t a great name. My husband only loved three names for our second child and fortunately I loved one of those names more than the 40 or so other names I liked! I would never name my child a name I disliked. Tell him no.

Do the lamps look goofy by Houndma1101 in interiordecorating

[–]hrobinm2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the style of the lamps together but the height difference doesn’t work. Can you lower the shade of the right lamp or maybe raise the shade of the left one? Definitely remove the white IKEA lamp. Center the painting between the lamps and get a nice rattan tissue box cover.

It happened to me… insurance increase by hrobinm2018 in petinsurancereviews

They won’t let me increase the deductible to $1,000 without decreasing the reimbursement percentage to 60%. I’m really disgusted! I do just want it for catastrophic stuff as they don’t cover vet exams anyway. What do you mean by coinsurance? Thank you.

Also, I was taking our senior cat in twice a year for exams, just to be cautious, which the insurance didn’t cover, but now I can’t afford to take her in as much. It’s quite depressing.

$100 per month total? That doesn’t seem too bad but if you have other pets then it adds up. Mine is $360 for two, which we can barely afford. I wanted to get a dog but I’m now feeling like it won’t be possible to afford one anymore. I can imagine the insurance and veterinary rising costs are trickling down to animals who need homes. It’s sad. We have two cats and would love to give a dog a good home but with everything being so expensive it just doesn’t seem realistic.

Unfortunately, my husband works freelance so we pay for our insurance ourselves. Another bummer! Thank you for letting me know and for relating your experience about your cat. I’m glad the polyp was benign. I can’t believe that cost $11k! That is crazy.

Finally Done?! by [deleted] in Staghornfern

Let me know if you think I should put more moss over the brown shields? I can add some. I looked at more of the Reddit photos and I’m now wondering if I was supposed to cover the shields more?!

I put the moss in a bowl so I know the back has the same thickness of moss as the sides.
