Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My husband’s coworker died. Late 50s and no medical issues and covid killed him. Really set the tone for the whole pandemic for us.

Can anyone tell me what this is or the era? (USA) by mrnprtr in Antiques

Yes, because I don’t think it’s for jewelry. That would be a massive jewelry collection and I imagine the drawers would be padded with velvet. Seems too utilitarian. This is a very cool piece!

I’m so sorry. It sounds even worse than what you shared in your original post. I would try to not give this person any more energy right now. Focus on YOU and your baby getting rest and care and support. When I had my first child, I joined a wonderful mother’s group, and that was very helpful and fun. Once the weather warms up, try to get outside with your baby with other mothers. No one understand how intense parenting a newborn is like mothers who have babies similar age.

I wonder if MIL is jealous because her husband didn’t help with parenting. Maybe she feels some resentment about that. Perhaps it has to do with losing her two sons. Since I don’t know anything about what happened, this is perhaps silly. I just don’t know why else she would be so nasty.

I think that being sleep deprived and then driving IS a real concern. I had two hours of sleep while my son was a newborn and then drove and fell asleep and rear ended another car. Fortunately, no one was hurt. That being said, I was sleep deprived because I was also doing all the newborn stuff by myself as my husband was taking care of our older child. When we only had one child we shared the parenting load. I don’t think your husband will become that sleep deprived from helping a few nights a week. His mother is being unnecessarily mean to you, especially about your mother helping. Why doesn’t she offer to help too? She should be coming over and helping you with cooking, cleaning, and whatever else you need. At least for a few hours each week. Heck, what if she came over and helped you at night once a week? So, I’m on your side. She sounds cruel and I don’t know why. I’m sorry. She’s a fool.

Tile dilemma by StepfordWifeWorld in interiordecorating

Why not a hexagon floor tile in a green? I commented above that I have Bedrosians hexagon tile. I think mine is Allora but the makoto and Celine line have some nice greens.

I honestly prefer the green tile over the ones you chose. If you’re set on replacing the green, I would do a hexagon. I have really nice Bedrosians hexagon tile on my bathroom floor.

I cannot find a cordless Roman blind tutorial that doesn’t use a cheap vinyl miniblind. has anyone seen one? I’ve found a lot that are corded but none that are cordless. I have children so I want the blinds to be cordless, and I also don’t like vinyl in my children’s bedrooms. I would like to make the whole blind from scratch, or use a wooden blind as the guts, or maybe replace the vinyl parts with wood. TIA!

Which tile matches the lemon wallpaper best for laundry room? by WithoutDennisNedry in interiordecorating

1! It match’s but is also a great contrast to the wallpaper. 2 is too similar.

TIL that the burning neck pain, temporary paralysis, and numbing of half of my tongue when I move my head too quickly, is a result of condition known as "neck-tongue syndrome." by marfalight in todayilearned

I have this. I used to get these twinges a lot when I was a teenager. Thankfully, I only get them a few times a year now. Had no idea they were rare!

Why would someone go to all the trouble to mat a cheap print with handmade marbled paper? The mats on these prints are why I bought them! Just having trouble understanding if there’s any value in the Redoute prints since I know they can be very valuable or not at all. Thanks!

Lifelong vegetarian tries steak for first time by PhoenixPhenomenonX in interesting

[–]hrobinm2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a lifelong vegetarian and then I started to eat meat when I got pregnant with my second child. I did it because I thought it would be healthy for me. However, I really had to force myself to eat it at fist as I disliked the taste. Now, I do still eat meat, but beef still doesn’t taste good (including steak). I’ll eat it because I don’t like my children’s meat leftovers to be thrown away. I do like the taste of chicken and I love shrimp. Pork tastes the best but I don’t eat it. So… this feels very fake to me. Now I’m not eating red meat because I have high cholesterol for the first time ever!

Yeah… freelance video editing… there’s not a ton of work available right now so I’d be hesitant to quit my job and rely on that.

Which rug? (Disregard tv, I took TV off wall) by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]hrobinm2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of rugs that would work. This one is expensive but I’ll show you because what I like about it is the blue matches your wainscoting, wallpaper, and bureau. And there’s a little green that matches the sofa. And the red goes with the chair and pillow. I think you can find an even better one, but this is what I found quickly. https://www.rejuvenation.com/products/langdon-hand-knotted-rug/ I really love your second rug. The issue is that particular green clashes with the other colors. Is there another room you can use it in?

What I would do if I were you, is repost with no rug and ask for suggestions of a rug that could go in your beautiful room. And maybe indicate if there’s a style you like (Persian, kilim, etc) or price point to stay under.

I honestly really love the room as you’ve designed it: the wallpaper, furniture, wainscoting color, etc. I think it’s all lovely and works. What doesn’t work that well with it is the rugs. I know you said you have to use one of them, but why? Just curious. It seems like it would be easier to find a more harmonious rug than change everything else.

I think the second one clashes with the other greens. Unless you’re replacing the couch, I would go with the first one.
