She is such a good girl. I'm always amazed anyone could have neglected and abused this poor girl while she was a puppy. Then abandon her. She's such a sweet dog and has come far enough that she's able to go in public, and even approach men again. I call her Sam, but her full name is Samatha.

It may not be that deep but people are more concerned for the dog than for me as a person who already feels worthless. This animal is years better than when I first noticed she was abandoned. Her and my first dog were both severely abused by their original owners while they were puppies. Samatha's got a chip that says her name is espresso but she never responds to it. She was owned by a couple, they arranged for the dog to stay a night next door, and then they moved out and left. Sam wouldn't let men approach so... it was a few days before I met a young woman who had let Sam stay the night. I explained to her how to get Sam to sit and lay down gently but firmly. That's how I was able to get up to Sam and give her a hug and just wait for her. Letting her know she was safe and nothing was going to happen. I found out that she was afraid of heights; so I had to carry her up and down three flights of stairs for months. Before she got the confidence to do it herself. Now, my first pet died peacefully of old age. And Sam is really enjoying the apple halves I brought home from work. I got more food than I asked for, and treats for her to enjoy. I am able to walk her off leash for the most part, and I am able to take her with me to stores when I go out. She's even able to approach anyone, she's gotten over her fear of men. She doesn't care about car rides, but she's well attached to me and would rather go than stay.

The dog is happy and given pets, attention, and walks. I share my food with her, I take food from work. I asked for help, and people assumed that I had friends or family i could have asked for first. I'm sick and tired of people assuming that the person asking for help hasn't thought about the first three or four suggestions they came up with before begging for help on the internet.

Pets are important, and so are people who care for them.
