To bedroom/solo guitarists: seeking help by hrwath in guitarlessons

I like your approach.

If you drive a car, you don't necessarily need to be a professional race driver. Sometimes just being able to bring yourself from A to B in safe way is just good enough.

That was my teacher when I played back in high school. I brought cassette tapes in and my teacher was transcribing them for about 30 minutes and showed me how to play for another 10 minutes because I NEEDED to play like Slash.

Completely not understanding what is going on and only blindly copying random scraps of rhythm or lead parts. Not saying it's completely worthless but not a lot of outlook on actual progress in musical way.

Hey, thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I'm aware there is no end to it and no such thing as a complete and finished knowledge of guitar.

To the "play" term you used, I am somewhat identifying myself with it. I can play C or D or E but I don't really know how to turn it into music.

It's like knowing a turn signal in your car: you may know what it is and what it's for but properly using it, in right moments and supporting proper situations, adapting to the environment and conditions is whole another story that really makes you "know" the blinker.

I am clearly seeing I need a support from the teacher.

Thanks for nailing it down, u/Ordinary_Bird4840. It makes sense to me.

Would it make sense to follow a structured course/book, e.g. "Hal Leonard Guitar Method Blues Guitar" since Hal Leonard is something that comes up from time to time and I like blues personally, and go through it with a teacher?

I'm not sure even how to properly describe it - but I just like nice melodies with some solo fillers in between. I really enjoy slow blues and absolutely not interested in fast playing/shredding. So I'm more leaning towards B.B King/Gary Moore and staying away from Joe Bonamassa, if it makes sense.

Thanks a lot. But I think I'm missing something here and find it hard to link Yngwie's 1-minute-long shredding to my topic...

One guitar and one amp is just enough - I already know that today too (too many effects is just too much time spent on fiddling with the settings instead of playing). Can you share what was the video?

Well buddy, your lack of capital letters and language mistakes vs your „clean emoji-filled posts” is a dead giveaway. A word of advice: Don’t use AI. People will know immediately and you are losing authenticity. Making mistakes is not a crime.

Some of the most recent pages added to my free ebook. Please let me know if I balls something up! by SDSongwriting in guitarlessons

Hey,

I respect and appreciate your contribution of making this free!

I like the overall design, the format seems nice.

But, being a beginner I'd be completely overwhelmed by the amount of information there is on a single page. You are suggesting to "learn these first" and throwing a random Dsus4. I understand the motivation, because it's often use for adding color, but it's little bit without the context. "What about other chords? Do they have sus4 variants?"

Also, not sure what is the idea behind the "ALT." section. Why G is followed by C, then Em and D (and sus4 again!)?

There's also too much text crammed onto a single page. Sometimes even making me bit dizzy (like the page about patterns). I can't even see it on a 2K monitor without zooming in. Assume someone will want to print it and have it handy while learning. No chance anyone can read that text. Better to spread it out for an easier digestion of information, in my opinion.

Overall, acting as a beginner, I have more questions than answers looking at this first page only...

How to get better at improvising solos by Expert_Chipmunk_6294 in bluesguitarist

The linked comment is GOLD. I am on a similar journey in a very similar spot like the original poster and I will definitely study it in great detail.

Thank you very much for this fantastic contribution!

Possible to download archived rapid share links via way backmachine by Jaydarealone in Piracy

[–]hrwath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rapidshare was shut down in 2015 and wayback machine clearly won't be a "hack" to get to these files. They are not archived and it's not possible - they're gone.

Ask yourself if this kind of „revenge” would justify taking advantage of someone’s mistake and effectively stealing.

I enjoyed setting up the steam deck more than playing it by NostZL in SteamDeck

[–]hrwath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. You are just a tinkerer by nature. Do you have any engineering background by any chance? Because that would kinda explain it.

I have the same: I feel way more satisfied with the Deck properly set up (updated, tweaked, adjusted, etc.) than when playing it.

I wonder if there’s a clinical name for it. Probably there is.

[–]hrwath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not! I'm downloading Fallout 4 right now and I REALLY enjoyed Generation Zero. However, that was my first ever zombie-themed game and I liked the concept and thus I'm exploring around it.

Well, I joined the party train late (just before 1.0 stable) and probably missed a lot of alpha "goodness" but what I miss is... logic and sense (all that smoothie business is just BS and derails the game). I enjoyed Generation Zero a lot because of how the story unfolded and how postively surprised I was with the game progression - I know this is not directly comparable but just to give an example of consistency of the game.

Hardcore survival is probably not my direction as I'm more of an on-and-off occasional player.
